First chapters not great
2022-05-29
by Mike0Psych0
So I was intrigued by the first 2 chapters, but there was the lacking of any actual plot. Yes, we’re introduced to the main character and a potential antagonist, but there wasn’t very much given. You were kind of just thrown into it. I like the idea of the puzzles, and you feeling like you were in the book, but the way they made some of the puzzles weren’t very, um what’s the word, “immersive”. It felt kind of clunky and weird. Also, the pay-wall gimmick didn’t leave a good taste in my mouth. There are plenty of e-books out there that cost money, and tell you from the start. You shouldn’t have to bring in readers and then forcing them to buy it to be able to read the story. You should’ve made the price clear in the first place, which would’ve been much more well received. 6 chapters also doesn’t seem worth $5, given it only took me about 20 minutes finish the first 2. It would’ve been okay if the chapters were longer, but that isn’t the case. I’m not saying the future chapters aren’t good (since I haven’t read them), but I don’t think I’m going to pay to find out. Now, about the developers and their responses, they seem highly unprofessional and can’t seem to take any form of criticism whatsoever. I have hopes that they will reflect on this project, and will do great things in their future. If they ever make another book, perhaps I’ll read. But for those reasons, I’m out.
Great game (of what I’ve been able to experience)

When I was younger, I played the free trial but backed off once I saw a price. Years later, there I was scrolling through MaginaryAdventuretextbook store when I saw this, remembered what good memories I had, and downloaded it again. I had a great time playing the free trial again and I really enjoyed it. I had full intentions to buy the full version… until my experience sort of stopped.
I’m not sure why, but I CAN’T proceed past the fog section in Chapter 2. I had been blowing on my phone like an idiot for a while before deciding to see if Google could tell me anything. No, it simply told me to blow in my mic, which I’d already been doing. The game has access to my mic, so that’s not the issue, and I’m on the phone every day—never experienced a problem with my mic before. I even held my phone up in front of my fan; no results. Unfortunately, this does mean I’m unable to continue playing, as there is no way to skip certain puzzles. I’m just forced to flip pages and see Michael slowly lose hope in me (it’s a bit heartbreaking).
I wish there was a way to skip puzzles, because I honestly can’t see my way past this, but I had a good time while it lasted. From what I saw, excellent game. I’m just upset I won’t be able to have the whole experience.
Absolutely fantastic... but...

I don’t write reviews. But while I was playing I knew I had to. This novel/game is simply stunning. Beautiful. Incredible. I had to comment on it. Of course however, my fun ended. Quite abruptly. There’s a pay wall y’all. I’m desperately searching MaginaryAdventuretextbook Store page for a warning that this wasn’t the full version, but I can’t find it. It was literally out of nowhere. I really hope there is and this rant is all for nothing. Credit where it’s due, at least it wasn’t completely out of the blue. And I applaud the fact my character was just as frustrated as I was about having to pay. Disappointing.
*edit* Slight increase in rating because (thankfully) made a mistake and it does say it’s not a full game... kind of hidden on the scroll down thing on the IAP section. I missed it the first time, but, I think it’s pretty easy to miss this. And other people obviously have as well. Please, it’s best to put it in the description of the game, as that’s where most people look in order to get info on the game. I get that Way-Pall was suppose to ease the pain (kills immersion in my eyes but whatev) but monetization in gaming has become a bit of a touchy subject in games and it’s going to hurt the game a little. Folks need the best chance of knowing.
My screen is cracked, so I cannot give 5 stars 😐

Wow, I didn’t think I’d like this at all at first, let alone PAY for it! I never buy full versions of anything, so you’ve obviously convinced me to delve into my pockets for a once-in-a-lifetime application payment, and it was worth it. I really would enjoy a few library books to be made similar to this. Or for usage of books I had to study in college, I’d have actually enjoyed the course more lol. Bravo to the creator! Very well put together, my heart raced with excitement, it was humorous in some areas, I had some anxiety from the eerie music, plus the awesome artwork/effects, all that jazz! My hubby even helped me on a few pages. I only wish it were longer, to get more of an unfolding of everything in vast detail. I think the creator(s?) held back by sort of smooshing it into a few chapters. Mike pops up and I’m helping him out, gets moving on his quest, and then he (sort of) goes back to normal life (slight spoilers). I needed more time to let the plot thicken, you got to bring it to a boil then let it simmer and allow those flavors to meld together, come on now! Then it’ll be a truly satisfying dish, appetizing to the eyes and easy on digestion! But seriously, 10 chapters minimum, or maybe an E N T I R E book series? Eh? (One time payment, if you do consider actually taking the time to read this review please, I’m broke but I liked this very much. I’ll be first in line, until then, I hope you enjoyed that $5! 😁👍🏾)
I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect when I downloaded this game. The concept of involving your imagination within a mobile game hadn’t been done before, so I didn’t have anything to really compare it to. While I admittedly was thinking of something more, this was still a stunningly executed game. I don’t know how the developer came up with it, it is truly revolutionary. I must say, it has been a while since a game has engaged me in the way this one has.
Nevertheless, the reason I docked a star (I would’ve done a star and a half if I could) is because of the storyline. It’s just not very interesting. Maybe it picks up later on, I don’t know, but in the two chapters I was given I honestly wasn’t invested enough in the story to pay five dollars to read the entire book. I’m not saying that the story’s bad, nor that the pay-wall is ridiculous (let’s be honest, this game took a considerable amount of work to make, the developer deserves to be compensated). But it seems that you relied entirely on the gameplay of this game, and kind of half-assed the story. I also didn’t like that I was being guilt-tripped to buy the full version with the idea that Michael might die; that’s not what I came here for. So sorry, but I probably won’t buy the full version unless it goes on sale at some point. ~ MastaGamerita

This is quite different from anything I’ve seen before and I was pleasantly surprised with the concept to add the reader to the story. I’m giving 5 start to MaginaryAdventuretextbook because it’s quite remarkable and innovative, but I wouldn’t categorize as a game. A game would prevent you from moving forward if you are incapable to give the right answer. It would prevent you to move forward if the time ran out. Nonetheless, I was so drawn to the story, the interactions and the sounds that I forgot time for a short while. Favorably, My advise is to create challenges to the reader. Maybe create difficulty levels, where the reader can choose how he would play and read the book. I thought the story was interesting, but I believe it would’ve been better if it was a bit more realistic. Maybe a suspense story, resolve a mystery or murder case. The possibilities are endless. Further more,I also have to disagree with the tittle. The game only gives the illusion of control to the reader, because the end it’s already set. It would be nice to have a game where every choice you made had a different consequence to the end of the story... Not every ending would the same and the reader would have a more personalized experience... maybe someday, We’ll get to play such a game. For now, let me just say... this story rocks!!! Worth $5 dollars and some... thanks again. Keep the stories coming!
Talk about a hard sell...

We've seen a lot of people complain about the 5 dollar pricetag and the lack of warning on that front. We understand from a consumer's perspective why this might be a problem, especially on MaginaryAdventuretextbook store, where most things are expected to be free to start with more subtle but manipulative monetization. But honestly? The price seems totally fair, we fully intend to purchase the full version when we can afford to. What DID rub us the wrong way was just how urgent the purchase felt... we understand the intention behind it, and think its an interesting one having every interaction the reader has with the book be meaningful is part of the appeal. But being made to feel bad for not being able to pay up immediately after the book's perfect pace and feeling of urgency just feels a bit off.
That said, we don't know how this could have been dealt with any better, so yeah, thanks for the cool game.
Also more pronoun options beyond he or her would make people like us feel more welcome in the world of the story, as well as more immersed.
Amazing

I’m not much of a reader, as a matter of fact I’m still trying to get into reading. But this is honestly super creative and amazing. I love when things like this are interactive and take a whole new level of breathing life into a story. It also gives me sort of a Black Mirror vibe but in all of the good ways.
I can also understand people being a little upset with the paywall. But I mean it’s only $5 that isn’t very much. Especially for something as creative as this. I have no problem supporting people who bring something fresh to this world. Especially something I have never experienced before. So a standing ovation for anyone involved in the making of this story
I also have an idea for a future project if ever one were to come along, a choose your own adventure story with the animations and puzzle like aspect of this story. I know that’s ambitious and would probably take a VERY long time but I think if it is as well made as this one, it would be great
Wrong timing

I must say I am very surprised how things turned out. At first I wanted to know what type of flow the animations would bring but I never expected to be included in the story itself in a way I began to believe that it was real. The tension it built on the second chapter really gave a a lot to think about.
"This is real right ?", "I'm not reading about someone who could be in real life danger..right?". I looked to see if anyone has mentioned the name of the character I was reading about but never really got to see it. I guess it's because I panicked. Over all, its an amazing app- it'll better attend people to read too. It's just that I'm trying to save up as much money as I can. If I hadn't wasted my money on other spendings I would've. Not that I'm cheap, just broke.
Though I will be back! And when that time comes , it won't matter how high you set the price to be. I will pay without complications this time. I really enjoyed this.
I was never a fan for reading. Mostly because it's boring. The only time I would actually read something was always for school purposes. But while searching through MaginaryAdventuretextbook Store in search for something different to play, I came across Maginary. I looked it up and thought it looked good so I decided "Why not?"
Once it finished downloading, I closed my computer and turned off everything else that was on and began reading. I’ll admit I was startled in the beginning when I heard random noises. Especially the part where the game immediately knew my nickname! The story overall is really good!! I love the effects you did with the letters and small iPhone mechanics to help the reader with the characters in the story.
Though there's one thing I don't want to do, you see, I just finished reading and just discovered that you have to pay for the rest of the book... Which is a shame, because I don't want to leave Michael. But in the end I still enjoyed it! Impressive Work, Developers! 😊
Looking forward to more

This is very fun. Though I don’t agree with the price of it, that’s not what I’m here for. This game is honestly more entertaining than I thought. Having to constantly move around and imagine is hard for me, but this book helps. I’m a senior in high school so I don’t really need my imagination for much. In all honesty, this is a stress reliever. My little sisters even enjoyed it with me. It’s like a family game. That honestly never gets old. My pets tend to stare at me which honestly is makes me laugh along with the story sometimes. If your looking for something fun and interactive I suggest this. It doesn’t cause me to feel overwhelmed or overstimulated . I don’t feel under-stimulated either. For people who have Special Needs, or ADHD or ADD. I recommend it, as you tend to be captivated in the “What happens next? How do I solve this ? Is there another ending?”. As anticipation is what keeps me playing because I tend to forget that it’s just a game but it feels real. I love it. I honestly want more games like these.

Im not quite done reading yet, im at chapter 4, where it says i should make a review and i was like YES I WILL. SO. this book is aMAZING and i HIGHLY recommend it to people who are looking for a good read. Even if you dont buy the full version, the first part is still all i needed to be satisfied, and i did end up getting the full version 😋. The ONLY thing about this book that didnt make me happy was the one chapter where you had to walk 1000 steps. I know its not that hard, but i had to eat my lunch while walking around the table like 500 times. my mom was like " stop dilly dally eat your food like a normal person" and i was like "to get to the next page i have to walk!" and she was like" i like this book whats it called" 🙄. ANYWAY, You should make more stories, or chapters to this like the life of jeremy, or Chee, or something like that. i would BUY IT AGAIN. im not ready to say goodbye i only have two more chapters left and im not one to read a book more than once. overall, FANTASTIC I LOVE IT, YOU AND YOUR COMPANY.

I love this book app! 💕 it’s immersive, interesting, fun, and amazing! It makes you part of the game, and while it gives you hints if you are stuck, it never goes outright and says what to do. Everything you do effects the story, from plugging your device in to rotating yourself. It has an immersive storyline that ties into reality so closely that it seems real. There are amazing special effects and interesting characters that make you care. I love how the words will change and stretch to make it seem like your in a dark tunnel, or to make it look like lightning. If I had to give criticism, I would say this: (SPOILER ALERT, if you haven’t read continue to the next alert) there is one part where you have to walk 1000 steps and I would make that a lot less, as it took me forever and it was exhausting. I would make it 500 steps or around that, but I’m not unhappy. (SPOILER ALERT ENDED) other than that I love it and would recommend 100%. Beyond worth the five bucks I paid.

Leaving the fastest review I can simply because I just want to return back to reading haha. I love MaginaryAdventuretextbook, the story, the concept, the jokes. ALL OF IT!!! This was very thought out and well written. The writers, the helpers, everyone has done a magnificent job in creating such a masterpiece. I myself love to write. I always have ever since I was a young kid and reading thus far has brought back the motivation I needed to get back into it (Writing). Hoping someday, I make such an awesome work of literature like this one. Literally the best $4.99 I’ve ever spent. Thank you to all for working so hard in making this beauty. I literally can’t get enough! Oh, and to those complaining about MaginaryAdventuretextbook in regards to having to pay and blah blah blah, seriously? YA sit there and dedicate all the time and effort it took for the group of intellectuals to bring this together. If you don’t like the book just simply close it, delete it, then go your merry way. There is NO need to leave such a negative review simply because you’re bro- As a matter of fact, I’ll stop here. Michael is calling. Awesome job. Looking forward to more app releases!
Halfway through Chapter 3 and I couldn’t wait to write about it. I’ll address the biggest thing people are talking about which is the money. I have no problem with it in this case. 1) The dev (as stated in other responses) clearly wants people to see the game and its potential as you get 2 chapters to grasp what MaginaryAdventuretextbook is accomplishing. 2) It (most likely) took a massive amount of time and resources to make such an app. Sure, turning a profit is always a goal, but by having everyone chip in a bit the dev can make MaginaryAdventuretextbook that much better. 3) Introduction. Sure the dev could’ve made the game where you had to buy to play, but that contradicts with reason 1. Introducing the payment into the story was a genius move. It proves the dev isn’t making this for the money, they are just asking for a helping hand. Now, MaginaryAdventuretextbook, I believe, is a great step in the direction reading can go. With all the new technological discoveries humanity is making, immersion into fictional worlds is one of the biggest advancements yet. MaginaryAdventuretextbook sums up very nicely exactly how we will see reading and everything around us slowly change and evolve. I can’t wait to finish this journey and I hope to see even greater stories to be told this way. Keep up the good work!

I just have to say, I love to read but can become easily distracted while reading which can make it difficult to finish a book. That was not the case with maginary, the interactive elements as well as the sheer beauty of MaginaryAdventuretextbook kept me engaged and reading without any difficulty. I am really hoping to see more apps like this in the future, more books created rather than just written.
A word for anyone that complains about the price. STOP BEING SO CHEAP! Seriously people are so cheap when it comes to apps. Do you people realize the amount of work and effort that goes into making a masterpiece like this? It's a lot of work and the Developers deserve to be paid for their work. $5 that's about as much as most people pay for a coffee or something else you can live without for one day. I understand not wanting to pay for an app that not the greatest, but this is incredible. It's design is gorgeous and the execution was masterful.
I want to thank the Developers for the ingenious way of asking the user to pay for the rest of the book. I'm so glad you could download the first part to see if it's for you and then decide later if you want the full version. I like this modal. It allows me to test an app before purchasing. Thanks I hope to see more in the future.

First things first, I want to address people complaining about the paywall. I myself didn’t even realize that “Way-Pall” was supposed to hint that, and the entire thing tripped me out. But after reading the entire thing, I definitely think it was worth it to buy the rest. Yes, it may use the side of people that really want to finish things like stories, jobs, or other stuff, but I’ve got to admit they do all of these things in clever ways no app I’ve seen has ever done before. Something I also noticed in the reviews is that not a single person complained about the content being just generally bad. That’s really good in any sort of app, whether or not it’s a game, or a book, or whatever. It’s crazy how well you guys (talking to the devs here) did on this, and for not even one person to review this as bad content? That’s something that I thought was an impossible deed, but you pulled it off, and with tons of style at that. To the developers, I really hope you’ll keep making more of these type of “experiences” (and hopefully with either a small paywall or just a link to a donation thing at the end) and I’ll definitely support you guys through whatever you do (as long as you keep up the good work). And wanting to end on a good note, keep up the good work! 😄👌❤️👍

So yes, the story hooks you relatively quickly and makes it worth, in my opinion, what I would never pay for a phone app. I love the story and I love the interactive features within the story, which are quite clever. I even get a chuckle out of the devs notes in parts of the story, like asking you to rate, reminding you that if you need help you can email them, or even the “way-pall” part was a cute segue into the fact that you would have to pay to continue reading. Usually, with app stories, I tend to get bored with them or buzz through until I get some sort of a choice. With similar apps that are storytelling but involve choices I find you have to dole out a lot of money to get what you’d like. This one is like watching a movie but reading a book at the same time and it’s most definitely got my attention. I’m in the tunnel now taking my developer suggested break to leave my review, but I’m ready to read the rest. Things I’d never do before: liking story apps, paying for it, leaving a review, ready to share with my friends, and giving any app permission to anything on my phone. I’m doing all of it with MaginaryAdventuretextbook and it’s been worth it for a great interactive puzzle and story. Taking that premise to a different level. Nice job!
Beautiful in every aspect.

This game immediately hooked me, from the way the screen interactions worked, the ominous noises, the individual to game interaction making you build a personal connection to the characters of the story. You can genuinely tell that the developers poured their heart out into this game and was well worth the $4.99 it was charged to play the game. Many games of this type are either A) not as good, well developed or fun to play in general. B) they don’t intrigue the player, build connection and make them want to continue turning the page to find out what’s next, this game executed that perfectly. And C) they usually cost ample amounts more than this game did. To see a game of this professional development for such a sufficient price is awe striking and inspiring to me and maybe even other individuals and I have ample respect for the developers of the game. I enjoyed this game and I would love to see more of this type, or maybe even more stories (not suggesting free stories of course but maybe an array or genres you can pick from and/or get previews of from the beginning of the book, then decide if you want to purchase it to continue the story and the lure of it.) This was genuinely my favorite app I have ever gotten and would love to see more from you guys. Thank you for the unforgettable experience! :)
Now I’m not one to rave about apps and especially not one that you have to pay for to get the whole story (4.99) but it is SO worth it. Honestly. Maginary is an interactive book where YOU ARE PART OF THE STORY AS THE READER. There is adventure, suspense, mystery, humor, and some tear -jerker moments too. You become attached to the main character and they to you AND OH BY THE WAY you are their only hope. Words will fly off the page after reading about the large gust of wind surrounding the character. Lightning will strike and make you jump out of your skin and thunderclouds will appear with the word “thunderstorm”. AND you get to interact with the story too by walking a few steps to help get them to their destination or blowing on the screen to create a breeze and SO MUCH MORE. MaginaryAdventuretextbook is FREE and so are the first two chapters. You only have to pay to get the FULL STORY. It isn’t super long so if anyone thinks this is too much than you may feel that the amount of money doesn’t match up with amount of story you get. I personally didn’t think that it was too short or too expensive but oh well. 😁
