Great until the ads

Full page ads with novexit button kill a wonderful resource.

Doesn’t work offline!

Please please please read this review. I used to love JAccent and use it all the time. But since a recent update, JAccent won’t start unless connected to the internet. This makes it useless when offline. It also doesn’t seem to connect when on a phone call. Also, even with internet it takes 1-2 seconds to load, which is annoying when quickly trying to look up words.

Please remove the online connection on app load, or make it async/optional. There’s no need for an offline dictionary to require internet.

AirPod bug found

Bug fund, media cannot play with AirPod when using JAccent. iPhone 14 pro max, AirPod 2 generation

Robotic voice

The reviews said there wasn’t a robotic voice in the pronunciations but, this was not my experience. I downloaded this to work on sounding more native however, I ended up deleting it. You can hear a robotic sound on the tail end of the pronunciations. Also, the quick speed of the pronunciations may make it hard for beginners to train their ears to hear the pronunciations clearly if they want to continue to use this. It is a good idea and I hope the developers continue to work on it.

Display Problems

This is seems good, but I am unable to full appreciate it because of a bug which prevents content from being displayed.

Most screens are not displayed and are instead replaced with a solid gray screen. The kanji tab works, but the actual definition screen does not, basically making the dictionary useless. I also cannot access the profile tab and chatbot. The flashcards tab is just a loading circle.

I have been trying to use JAccent for a few months, but it these issues are preventing me from doing so. I’m not sure if others are experiencing such issues, but I would appreciate is they could be resolved. Thank you.

super useful !!

JAccent is very useful and it has actual audio on the words instead of a robotish voice. it also has really good stroke order pictures for kanji. i really like JAccent! the only thing stopping me from giving five stars is JAccent doesn't give the pitch accent for a word when it has a particle on it. other than that, amazing!

Review Update post improvements

So i do still like JAccent for its availability of pitch accent information, though most of the quality of life/efficiency of use changes i hoped for in my first review are still lacking. Those being: lack of an option to have the Japanese swipe keyboard be the default and appear upon search bar entry; the search history not being accurate at all; the option for a search bar clear/reset upon each return to JAccent (shirabe jisho does this excellently).
a new issue is actually that upon clearing the search bar, the keyboard disappears, requiring me to click on the search bar again.
the AI was an odd but not unwelcome addition. though i don't find myself using it unless a word isn't in JAccent 's database, in which case the AI usually can give me a definition.
Still a 4 star app to me because of how much i use it, but it feels like a weak 4 with how sluggish using it can feel sometimes.
Thank you to the developers, regardless! I know you guys are doing your best

Please use this app if you are learning Japanese

JAccent is incredibly helpful when studying Kanji. It shows you how to write and pronounce (with pitch accent) which is vital for reading and writing. However, the written search function can be a little peculiar with how you write the kanji when you search for it. Also, a setting to slow the writing directions just a little bit (like a scale) would be nice. Overall, incredibly helpful!

これが好きです。

僕はこのアップが好きですからピッチアクセントの辞書がいますは良いです。僕はアメリカ人ですそして日本語を勉強します独りでインターネットをします。これを助けますそれでありがとうございます。

Updated for landscape, now excellent!

Great pitch accent dictionary app!!!

Wonderful app すばらしいねー

Just a good dictionary for Japanese words honestly

Has pitch accent

Great for pitch accent. Great for stroke order of kanji. But the translations of the example sentences into English are often incomprehensible. But even with this laughable over sight. And because Japanese sentences are fine. I still give this dictionary 5 stars. This is one of the three dictionaries that I use. And this is the one I go to first!

Support for Odaka

Hi. I love your app! It’s one of the few out there that provide a convenient source for pitch accents of words. One thing that is needed though would be a distinguishing feature between Heiban and Odaka patterns. By not being able to distinguish them, it forces others to find another resource. Other than that, It’s one of the few and best resources out there for learning pitch accent.

Amazing app

JAccent is very good and works perfectly for what I need. If you are looking to learn Japanese pitch accent than I highly recommend JAccent.

Does just what it says on the tin

Studying Japanese pitch accents is definitely a niche market, so it’s a pleasant surprise to find a nice app for doing just that. The interface is simple, and works just like you’d expect. The icon is cute and just perfectly appropriate.

I paid for the ad-free experience — and just to thank the developer — right away.
