A Nintendo collector's best friend

In spite of already having the book written by Pat Contri that contains most of this info, I found that the unique feature with which you can keep track of your own NES collection worth the price in itself.

This is one of the best resources you can have on hand if you collect, thanks to all of the detail that went into compiling UltimateGameGuide and its hardcover book counterpart - from label variations and region exclusive games, to info on some of the more rare and obscure cartridges (even non-licensed ones).

If you are new to the hobby - or are a seasoned game collector - UltimateGameGuide is definitely a definitive guide on everything you could ever want to know about the NES library.

Great reference material

I love browsing through the boxes and seeing the old ads and viewing the 3D box model. It would be nice to add things like Nintendo power articles or other magazine coverage but I suppose that would have copyright problems. Also I wish we could tap on the game photos and ads and get a higher resolution version. The games all do have original text reviews at least! Adding SNES is fantastic and I hope they continue to add more systems in the future!

Great product but wish it was iPad

This product is great. So many wonderful features, an attractive interface and online support for updated game prices. There are several ways to view the collections/categories. I wish the fast scrubbing alphabetical jump menu on the right was permanent, cause it’s hard to control with it auto-disappearing when not in use. The most critical complaint I have is that I wish this product was on iPad (preferably in landscape).

All in all, a great product and well worth the price.

A great app for any NES fan!

First, the positives: I love how easy UltimateGameGuide is to use. Any feature you would want is right there and you'll find some pretty amazing facts about your favorite games.

UltimateGameGuide covers all released NES games, not just the "Official" games.

The things I would improve are adding the NES Cleaning Kit to Accessories, adding third party NES clone systems to the "Systems" tab, a wishlist/shopping list would be nice, and allow people to adjust value of collection based on condition, including a flag or list for games you own but want it in better condition.

Fantastic app

The finest NES collecting app I've ever used to date. Well thought out, comprehensive and incredibly detailed. I would highly recommend it to any new or seasoned collectors for a multitude of reasons. Well done!

I do have a request; I currently have 3 games, all were licensed in PAL regions, that I can't locate within UltimateGameGuide (The NewZealand Story, The Blue Shadow and McDonaldland). Is there a way to add them? I can't seem to add them manually, and they're not located within UltimateGameGuide itself. (If they are, I can't find them)

Used to Live this App - Now Unusable

I should have rated UltimateGameGuide earlier because I loved it! Was able to make detailed notations of the collection and at a glance pull data from PriceCharting and other data sites. But since the new update, it’s literally unusable. Games don’t populate when trying to scroll, search freezes and is inaccurate. Work hard in trying to find a game, click on it...multiple times...and the wrong game comes up. I know Pat had struggled with the previous coding company and got another but I cannot use UltimateGameGuide in its current state.

Also from a troubleshooting standpoint, I’ve tried this on multiple iPhones. Same result.

Bad update

I have used UltimateGameGuide to keep track of my NES collection for quite some time and to check for prices when shopping at local game stores.
Within the last few months, some update or changes were made to UltimateGameGuide and now it is extremely annoying to use, as it freezes often and is hard to select individual game cartridges to read about. Do not even try searching for a game because the screens freeze and bleed into one another, creating a layered visual of images that make it impossible to navigate through.
While I once would rate UltimateGameGuide as a 5/5, I now rate it as a 1/5.

Search function

After the last update, the search function doesn’t work. Makes it a pain to find a game quickly. Other than that, I love UltimateGameGuide to keep track of my games and to see how much they are worth when wanting to buy them. Please fix the search function.

Great Promise but missing crucial features

This would be a must have - except they still haven’t added the ability to export your collection data. It also seems like ‘update pricing’ feature is bugged and doesn’t work at all. Tried reaching out to the devs and got no response. Very disappointing as I really love everything else about UltimateGameGuide .

edit*** heard from the dev, they indicated they were fixing the price charting feature and would add exporting in an april update. Price charting now works, but no update yet.

No longer works with iPhone X

I bought this when it first came out and loved it. So I (grudgingly) understand why I had to reload all 600+ of my games due to the update/rework of UltimateGameGuide . Ok. However, as others have said, the scrolling freezes, the collection list doesn’t work (says 1000 games, only four show).

I searched for another nes tracking app but struck out. I have no working list now to track down the final 60 or so. Or, if a fire comes, I’m screwed.

I’m holding out hope that you fix this, Pat. You are our only hope. I’ll go back to 5 stars and be very grateful! Thanks

Retro gamer MUST

UltimateGameGuide is a must for the retro gamer. If you collect or looking to start, this is UltimateGameGuide for you. I coach teens and they know I collect as they call it "old games". UltimateGameGuide has allowed me to show them my game collection and teach them about the games and system that I love. Also I use to have a list on my phone of my games for when I was out looking for games. Now it's all in UltimateGameGuide .

What Happened?

I used to love UltimateGameGuide. I would refer to it constantly whenever I would go to purchase an NES game or accessory. I haven’t checked it out in a while but today I was browsing eBay and decided to check what would be a good price for a certain game. So I decided to consult the Ultimate NES App. It is nothing like it was before. All my saved collection is gone, even though I created a login. Some games and accessories aren’t even on the list anymore. UltimateGameGuide is filled with bugs and glitches. It won’t even scroll properly. I am very disappointed and I hope they fix this soon.

2.0 Full of Bugs and Choppy Scrolling

I was excited to try out version 2.0 now that UltimateGameGuide has basically been rebooted. It was full of choppy scrolling while browsing games, bugs which appeared on the system tab to where you cannot even use the page, random scrolling on its own which will interrupt your current browsing, and over all the UI looks some how worse. Reviews are not accompanied by an author’s name or initials. It’s just a mess of an app.

Awesome app

UltimateGameGuide is an absolute must have for all gaming collectors!! I have been using it for over a year now and couldn’t be more impressed! If you are concerned about the price ....then I dunno, grow up because you’re more than likely over 30 and you should’ve realized by now you get what you pay for!...most of the time anyway lol

Last update killed it

I loved UltimateGameGuide. It was great. All the info you’d need about the NES in 1 place. The last update not only wiped out my logged games, but also broke functionality of the entire app. Only 1 page isn’t glitched or broken. The accessories page. Everything is overlapped and unreadable.

Emailed developer on 6/2/21 and they are awaiting approval for next version that should fix broken layout. I’ll gladly change my review should it improve with an update.

Apple needs to remove this app from the store

UltimateGameGuide is completely broken and in-usable. Do not spend your money on purchasing UltimateGameGuide. You will spend hours imputing information about your collection only to close UltimateGameGuide and not have it saved.

I’ve had UltimateGameGuide for years, it was broken with the update about a year ago, and no in has made any efforts to fix it.

Please apple remove UltimateGameGuide from your store so no more of your users are scammed into spending time and money on this garbage.

Best NES app!

V2.0 update review

After the update UltimateGameGuide doesn’t seem to format properly on my iPhone XS. The menu buttons are overlapping with the time and WiFi information and I have to click a button several times to get it to work. Also, many of the menu items that allow for filtering games are blank. If you click around and refresh it appears they are indeed filtering but you can’t see what options you have selected.

Once these issues are fixed I will bump my rating up.

This is by far the best looking and most comprehensive app for NES collectors I've ever used. If you are a retro gamer UltimateGameGuide is an absolute must have.

If I had a wish list item it would be to be able sort by games you have completed or games you haven't completed.

Update broke it

The new update breaks UltimateGameGuide . Overnight my phone auto updated and I opened UltimateGameGuide to find my collection data gone. I figured oh well I’ll just redo it I have some time. Unfortunately UltimateGameGuide is so buggy now it’s near impossible to do it. Scrolling isn’t smooth and if you go near the side of the screen it jumps to a different letter. Also on my iPhone XS the button placement for close and back are not aligned because of the notch. Definitely seems like they should have waited before releasing this.

Went from great to unusable to buggy

UltimateGameGuide was truly amazing when it launched. Then an update happened which rendered UltimateGameGuide completely unusable. They’ve since patched it and while it works, it’s a buggy mess. Scrolling is choppy, games sorted alphabetically are out of place and sometimes while searching the results are jumbled into one. There’s a lot of potential with UltimateGameGuide. I saw it with its first iteration. No idea why they tried to fix what wasn’t broken.

Locks up

I can’t get past the opening screen that says it’s connecting to the cloud. It locks up there. I left it running for around 10 minutes to see if it would ever connect and it never did.
