LeapFrog Academy™ Learning Reviews

LeapFrogAcademy is frustrating. My 4 year old loves it, loves the games and learning and collecting rewards and that’s why we bought a subscription. Unfortunately LeapFrogAcademy hardly ever works consistently. It has major issues loading just about anything so when we complete an activity it will crash, when opening LeapFrogAcademy it will crash, when we finish a Learning Adventure lesson to collect a reward it will crash, etc. The worst thing that has happened to us is that my child had collected a fair amount of collection pieces as well as character customization options that just disappeared and LeapFrogAcademy acted as if we had just started LeapFrogAcademy for the very first time despite us having 12 certificates and saving our progress.
We have contacted customer support a few times and they’ve been less than helpful. I uninstalled and reinstalled LeapFrogAcademy (three times) which didn’t solve our issues and the only response I received was “It seems to be working on our end.” Based on the reviews I really doubt that considering I know somebody that has the Leapfrog tablet and they have the same issues we are having on iOS.
I caution all parents because while the games are great the execution is incredibly frustrating and the lack of concern for support is downright infuriating. I was hoping they were fixing these issues but reviews from 3 years ago tell me that the concern for the developers isn’t in fixing these issues.

I have the apple parental control restrictions setup on my daughters iPad where I have the specific websites she can visit entered only. I feel that the “limit adult content” setting is still too much freedom for an 8 year old if she wanders to the internet and accidentally searches...As a parent, I just don’t feel comfortable using someone else’s interpretation of what “adult content” is where my children are concerned. My point in explaining this is that when I have the controls set up this way, even if I place LeapFrogAcademy under “always allow”, LeapFrogAcademy will not launch. The only way I’ve been able to get it to launch successfully is to select “limit adult content” under the apple restrictions, which I am not comfortable with. Has anyone encountered this and found a way to fix it? Do I need to enter the leapfrog website as an accessible website, and if so, what is the specific site or sites? I love LeapFrogAcademy otherwise.

So frustrated! Some games work and are fun for my PreK child, but many of the games are freezing so I called Customer Service. Big mistake since it’s pharmed to a 3rd party. I had to call twice because the reps couldn’t hear me and had trouble understanding English then kept putting me on hold because he didn’t know how to fix the problem. 45 minutes later going around in circles and NO SOLUTION! The rep just kept asking me to repeat the problem like he didn’t hear what I had been saying the entire call. I tried the posted solutions on the site, but they’re missing some steps and are incredibly unhelpful! This is not what I expect from the Leapfrog brand!

I wish I hadn’t paid for this. I wanted to love it. When we are able to access the content my son loves playing, but there are areas that have proven difficult to navigate and more often than not it has server connection issues and takes FOREVER to load or is difficult to play due to large lags. The printables are not age appropriate for the younger kids and don’t give a good introduction before jumping in and assuming they have an understanding or knowledge of the materials (especially letters). Over all I think the content needs to be revisited and updates to accommodate the ages it advertises. LeapFrogAcademy needs reworking to make it less bloated and easier to use. It would be nice if the avatar was more easily customizable as my son has somehow created a princess for himself... I don’t mind the princess, but it would be nice to be able to change it if he wanted.

My daughter got to the 2nd island and the game with the chicken eggs saying hello and goodbye stops responding repeatedly on my iphone. I have closed out LeapFrogAcademy . I have restarted my phone. There are other games in LeapFrogAcademy also freezing. I am up to date on all my software. I’m not having any issues with any other apps. My toddler doesn’t understand why I can’t make it work and is getting upset which stresses me out. This is NOT a situation that I want an app to put me in. I literally am paying for more stress in my life. But when the games in LeapFrogAcademy are working she loves it so much like all the other leap frog things we have gotten for her. The chicken game worked on my ipad so idk what the deal is.

I just signed up for this for my child tonight and I can’t log in to the parent dashboard because my whole password won’t fit! So I tried to login to the website and it isn’t letting me see my account info anywhere. I’ve searched every inch of that site and tried to reset using the password reset, seems like a ploy to make it so you can’t cancel before your trial is up. Which I wasn’t even planning on doing, but considering it now. Running around in circles and this is not cool.

When LeapFrogAcademy works, it is great. The problem is it doesn't work more often than it does. It looks you out repeatedly and then it resets the game specific age setting to 6+ every time even though your parent dashboard will show the age that you set. You have to change the age setting on the left of that screen every time. Most of the time after it logs you out it will freeze on the loading screen when the bar is full. Restarting LeapFrogAcademy or iPad does no good. You have to delete LeapFrogAcademy and reinstall it every time. We have two tablets and it occurs equally often on both. Will cancel subscription if this continues. Too bad. It would be a good app if it worked.

I never write app reviews, so the fact that I feel so motivated to write one says a lot. I really wish the developers would get their act together.

I have a daughter that absolutely loves this game. I have 2 iPads and LeapFrogAcademy does not work on either. It freezes constantly. The only way I can get control of it is to delete it and re-download it. I would simply delete it and be done, but she loves it so much. On my other iPad, the sound goes in and out so that you have no idea what you’re suppose to do or there’s no story-time soundtrack. It’s not the iPad as we use other apps and it’s my home music library.

I am so frustrated! I give it 2 stars for content, but I should give it less for creating this fingernail-on-chalkboard affect of crying kids every 5 minutes that it freezes, crashes or fails in some way. So many people are complaining, so many little ones are disappointed by such shoddy development.

Just fix it!

Just like everyone else here I tried the free trial. What a joke! When I tried using it, it didn’t work. So I went to the review page to find out if that was a normal thing, as you can see it is. So I unsubscribed from LeapFrogAcademy & never turned back. Until I had a charge on my bank account for $70!
Now they will not refund me my money for a yearly subscription I can’t use, even though I emailed them the same day they charged me. (This is also been commented several times on the reviews) next time I’ll know I need to read reviews before I try a “free” trial.
Leap frog you need to fix your app! It doesn’t work and apparently doesn’t tell you when someone unsubscribes from the “free” trial you advertise.

If it works, my kids really enjoyed LeapFrogAcademy . I wasn’t able to have them use it long enough to gauge how effective it is as a learning tool.

We have an iPad Pro, iPad, iPhone 8, iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 (I am an app designer myself) and LeapFrogAcademy doesn’t work on any of them. At a random point shortly after opening, LeapFrogAcademy will simply become unresponsive to the touch screen, and acts like it’s waiting for you to do something. Seems like a bug, but it has been weeks without a fix which is a bummer. We have no choice but to cancel the subscription and discontinue use.

My kids enjoyed LeapFrogAcademy the first time they played with it (according to them, it is way better than the educational app they were using before), the next time they tried to play, it was frozen. After doing some looking around, I found instructions from LeapFrog on how to fix the problem. Once again, my kids enjoyed LeapFrogAcademy . Unfortunately, the way we had to set it up makes it so other things we use the iPad for, don’t work. I don’t want to have to change the settings every time my kids want to do LeapFrogAcademy. Unless we can find away to make this work better, we won’t be subscribing.

We haven’t been able to enter LeapFrogAcademy for several months now. It just stays on the loading screen for several minutes then crashes and freezes the ipad. We have continued to be charged monthly for it. I have tried several times on iphone and ipad to sign in to cancel through the browser, BUT IT REQUESTS TO DOWNLOAD LeapFrogAcademy TO CONTINUE!!!! LeapFrogAcademy DOES NOT WORK, so i can’t make changes/cancel account. Basically I am paying monthly for A CHANCE that LeapFrogAcademy will work. When it did work without any crashes it was very pleasant, if i remember correctly it may have worked flawlessly for about a week then the crashes and forever loading screen began.

I have to sign into LeapFrogAcademy almost every time my daughter wants to use it. If she hasn’t been playing with it for a few hours, when she goes back to open it, it is requiring to sign up or sign in. I’ve uninstalled LeapFrogAcademy and reinstalled with same issues. Aside from that, this is a great app for my 4 year old. It has helped her with her reading and comprehension. She can play it with no help from me and includes me as she feels necessary. But this login lockout thing is annoying and I’m not always available to log her in.

I just down loaded this yesterday and kept saying I was off line ,when my iPad is connected to my internet at home. Now today it says the same thing and just keep bring up the first screen with my child’s name and the play button. Once you the play button it brings you right back to the screen over and over Again along with saying I’m off line

I just downloaded this for my 3 year old. He plays one game on it and then goes to do another and LeapFrogAcademy freezes and has to be restarted again hence. The content is fun and engaging, albeit some of it does not seem entirely educational, but at least it’s better than him being glued to mind numbing videos that provide no content.

This game is NOT age appropriate. My daughter just turned 3 & isn’t familiar with numbers yet. She has no idea what they look like. INTRODUCING a child to preschool would be TEACHING them these numbers. Not expecting them to know them right off the bat. It’s ridiculous that my child can’t even navigate this because she’s not shown anything from it, it literally starts off with a toaster number crunch or some weird game that’s involved with figuring out numbers from 1-10. She doesn’t know what those look like. Where’s the stuff to teach her? Really disappointed in this. Will not be renewing once the trial is over.

I saw a lot of reviews that act like it crashed and couldn’t open it and created problems but I don’t have any problems at all works great it’s an adventure in learning much better than most apps I’ve seen for toddler’s.

I hate to see a great program get beat up for apparently no reason

I love Leap Frog and we have owned several leap pads. After the new leap pad quit working, I decided I would go this route on my iPad. However, I can never get the sound to work. I have followed the instructions in the parent help section. I have it all the way up. I have checked and rechecked settings. No go. I will not be keeping it because he can’t sit at the big computer to work. Guess we will just stick with ABC Mouse.

LeapFrogAcademy is great but only when it works. It logs me out constantly which means my 4yo can’t play whenever he wants. Every time I have to log back in, it never works, it gets to the LeapFrog screen, the loading bar loads completely but then it freezes, and even completely exiting LeapFrogAcademy and reopening does nothing. I pay for the monthly subscription for it to work occasionally. Disappointed because of how much my son loves it. Canceling my subscription and deleting LeapFrogAcademy .

My nieces love this! There in kindergarten and have a bit of learning difficulties. So we started a free trial to see what it would be like. BUT! When we play on a computer or a phone it does freeze sometimes and it makes them very upset! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX the issues!!!

We’ve been apart of a few different programs such as ABC mouse — and this one is by far our favorite. It’s interactive and high quality. The lessons are short and simple! Our 5.5 year old has learned so much. Our 7 year old also really enjoys everything in the program!

My 5 yr old loved LeapFrogAcademy until it started crashing today. Wouldn’t load, was stuck on the ‘leapfrog’ loading page then it would start chirping and bird sounds would start like on the character screen. I cancelled my subscription because it did this all day and even after I closed LeapFrogAcademy then reopened. Still did the same thing. Then I shut off my iPad Pro and turned it back on. Same thing. It had updated earlier this week with no problems until today.

I am having issues my daughter likes your app but when you open LeapFrogAcademy stays in loading mode and doesn’t move from there and I have tried to reopen and I have turn off my iPhone and it is the same.I have to delete LeapFrogAcademy and downloaded again everytime when she wants to play leapfrog can you fix these issue?
