Could be better

I really like the concept of BJJBuddy and I feel that with a little more work from developers it will be able to unleash its potential. As of right now, however, it could be better. For instance, every single time I try to open the “ME” tab it opens for about 3 seconds and then BJJBuddy crashes. Also, it is really frustrating that you can’t edit information once you put it in. For example I put I did 2 sumbissions and I want to change it back to 1... well there is no way to change it back apparently. Developers: let us edit the information we’ve put in not just today but from previous entries as well! Also please fix the “ME” tab bug that keeps crashing BJJBuddy . When these issues are addressed, I will of course update my review. Thanks!

Lots of potential but lots of bugs too

I really wanted to use BJJBuddy, but unfortunately, the frustration of using it has now overshadowed the benefits. I like the layout and design, but every time I use BJJBuddy it either looses information I’m entering or buttons stop working or when I try to save a log it looses the data in part or whole. If the developers can work out these glitches I think they will have a winning app, but for now it’s unusable. Feels like it’s not even quite ready for beta, if I’m honest.

Lots of promise, lots of bugs

Edit:

After checking out the update it has improved a lot but still lots of bugs.

1. The Profile page never updates with your total stats.

2. The stats charts and graphs don’t work right, you can’t drill down into them to really see what each section of the pie or chart means. (Minor issue, admittedly, but still a problem)

3. The calendar doesn’t update if you go back to it and edit something. Like was said below, if you train in the morning and go back to edit the submissions it won’t update past the original training session total. Also you can’t divide a day between gi and no gi. It’s one or the other.

4. In general it’s a huge step up from v.1 but still needs some work. It’s usable now which is good. Hopefully the developers keep plugging away. It has a lot of promise !

BJJBuddy is pretty cool but has too many bugs. The submission tracker does not allow you to edit and add new submissions or save the ones you try to log. The "Tapps" tracker is just spelled wrong. It saves them though but still does not allow you to add new ones.

The notes don't get saved to edit later, and it doesn't allow you to choose 0 rounds for the day. The default is 1.

The default is always no gi and it reverts back to that even after going to the notes section and back to the main page.

Like the first guy said, it has lots of problems but is a mess right now with all the bugs.

Buggy, basic journaling is broken, loses data

I was entering detailed notes on my session, tapped save, got the save confirmation. Unfortunately it only saved one sentence and lost everything else. BJJBuddy has so many interesting and advanced features and detailed settings but if I can’t trust it to save basic notes all of that is for nothing. Going back to using the Notes app.

Relentlessly Disappointing

Beautiful design, but the functionality is garbage. BJJBuddy pretty much doesn't work at all. The idea and the design is on point, and lulls you into trying it out again and again, but it never fails to not work as needed again and again.

Developer, please get this right. I would pay for something such as this if it worked correctly.

Cool app but lacking

It does not let you edit/delete any information, if say you made a mistake or remembered something later. Also, I input a sub and sometimes it doesn't work and will still say 0 subs. If these issues could be fixed BJJBuddy would be awesome!

Wanted it to be good

BJJBuddy has a lot of great ideas, like the tagging and data viz. The main issue is that it simply doesn’t save some entries, some notes are unattached to training sessions, no easy way to edit and save prior sessions. It’s free and may be able to keep some basic records, but only sporadically.

Great Concept - Inefficient Quirks

Overall, I love the concept of BJJBuddy with the ability to log trainings with notes and track specific data.

Layout: Beautiful and simple.

Quirks/Bugs?:
1.When entering training stats, you have to SAVE the data before you input your notes/journal/video for that session. Let’s say you put in all your submissions, taps, rounds, round timing, etc. you then click to add notes. But once you’re done with the notes, it brings you back to the original training page, but all your data has been reset. Irritating.

2. For some reason, the data graphs are showing zero rounds rolled, despite my entry of rounds in my individual training day entries.

3. I had to sit out and roll my brain instead of my body from an injury. I still made a stat log with notes, but that day is not showing. The NOTES are showing, but not the day’s data.

Fix the bugs and I’ll definitely change the rating. Overall, okay.

Developer needs to clean up bugs

I really like the idea of BJJBuddy and the promise it offers of adding some data to my BJJ training. It’s also pretty well built with decent UI. However, there are too many bugs in it for me to practicably use it right now. It is frustrating because it won’t clear submissions, adds submissions inconsistently, won’t allow me to add my gym, doubles my notes and my name, etc. Features I’d like to see added are:

1) Ability to select 1/2 hr trained
2) Ability to delete training days all together

Oh the bugs

It’s a fantastic app. The concept is great and can’t wait until it gets refined. It for sure works but aside from the bugs here and there this is a great log book for BJJ.

3 star reason

•Even though I will support BJJBuddy throughout my BJJ life we need to address some things.

•If you want to input the school you go to, You won’t be able to as of yet.

•inputting the weight and goal details are a little bit of a pain because of the bugs but it’s still doable

*hint* start from the top text box then work your way down! don’t skip and come back to the skipped portion; everything will reset.

•entering competition stats can be a-little confusion and needs some refinement. Again, doable but it will take some time

Can’t wait to give BJJBuddy a 4 star soon!

The app needs more development

BJJBuddy itself is good for logging training. There should be a way to look up more sweeps and submissions from other user suggestions perhaps. Also, I travel a lot for work and training at many different gyms but the gym locator function doesn’t work at all. It’s bad me stuck in one location (not my home gym) for a month now and won’t allow me to change it. BJJBuddy is definitely good for those who forget to use the old pen and paper but it needs work.

Like it but needs work!

Like BJJBuddy . I wish you all had a way to connect with friends from Facebook or contacts or even by school and or affiliation! Also the comp. area has been very buggy for me! Other than that I like it! Oh and maybe a place to add photos/different albums but that’s all secondary

UX is just not good. Can’t edit my first entry. Not intuitive

I respect the effort here, but BJJBuddy is just not intuitive at all. My first entry is there, but I wouldn’t know it from my activity log. Notes get randomly saved separate from training sessions. And the Ui just messy. Needs a UX professional to clean it all up. Gonna try others.

No kids belts?!

It seems like a great app but I’m under the age of 16 and am a orange and black belt. I tried to put in my age and it still only had adult belts please fix this……

Cool app!

I try to use it every class. I wish the sub/tap record had the ability to track by belt level. For instance, getting tapped by a black belt is a lot different than getting tapped by a white belt.

Great App, needs work.

Edit 2: after reinstalling BJJBuddy most of the little bugs went away. Better after every update. Thanks for adding the bow and arrow!:)
Will the bow and arrow be added? I have been using Gi choke and other chokes instead to track the B&A.
I was loving BJJBuddy for like a week. There was a few problems with the submission tracking system as it keep adding subs to one day and it was impossible to clear the subs or remove quantities. I tried to clear the subs many times but it would just keep adding up. I ended up with like 12 RNC when i only intended to add 1. Again is a great app if it wasn't for the bugs. i love the concept and i want to see it finished.
***As of last week the all wont open any more. I have tried to reinstall but still no luck making BJJBuddy work. Is it geo locked? I live in Japan.***

Love this app!

Their team is very helpful, got back to me ASAP with my issues of changing gyms/not seeing my gym listed. I love to have an easy visual of my training sessions and stats and helps keep my motivated in my training. I really appreciate this team and app.

Solid tracker

I just started Jiu Jitsu and one way I hold myself accountable is tracking my classes and if it’s no gi or gi. This does both as well as how many rounds you rolled and the time and notes etc. It has lots of cool features.

Great app, little buggy

Started using BJJBuddy day one of jiu Jitsu training. Every roll, every place. Haven’t found a school not in the list yet, great job keeping up with that, appreciated. There are some bugs but they aren’t show stoppers: energy levels don’t all work for instance, or choosing all in the data only gives you the last 12 months, not all.
Overall BJJBuddy is pleasing to look at, easy to use and does a good job tracking and displaying my data. Recommended to others.

Thank you and I hope you keep developing BJJBuddy .
Matt

Bjj buddy helped my game!

Have you ever wanted to track all your techniques and write them down well now you don’t have to because there’s an awesome app that gives you access to everything that you need from how long you trained to how many times you tapped out BJJ buddy really completely changed my entire training life
