Ava life changing

In the past 3 weeks I have lost all hearing. Now awaiting a cochlear implant. Shocking! How will I conduct my business, conference calls, personal social ever again.. recommended by friends (speech pathologist) this app has solved many of these. It’s all about a good microphone and folks speaking clearly. Quality in..quality out. I can now even hear the preacher on Sunday! You need of course good WiFi, or cell signal. I can now wirelessly sit and pick up Bluetooth mic 50 ft away. Can also pick up the phone by sending the phone into the iPad via cable. HUGE advantage. They talk I read. I talk they hear. It’s not perfect but pretty good. The TTY is free but everything has to go to another number then prompted to enter my number. How does the yard guy know this? It’s a bit cumbersome. I think I’ll use both. Thanks this app! Good work!

AVA is very helpful

I am bilaterally implanted and struggle with electronic devices that play music or radios with odd sounding voices. this app helps with some of that (not music, rather talk radio) and it’s extremely useful when explaining to my Deaf friends and family since my ASL is poor. I can hold my own with hearing friends and family as the implants give me 85% speech comprehension.

Now a question: I actually tried to open this app during a phone call to work like captions would, and it was ok but not perfect. Does this app ever plan on expanding out into telephone type conferences where not all members in the conference have this app? It’s asking them a lot to download an app, it would be sweet to be able to include their conversation without having them join right away.

Great last minute interpreter app!

Had to whip up an interpreter last minute and Ava really pulled through there were some misunderstandings when it came to subtitles but I feel that’s with every subtitle device I’ve used so not bad at all. Thank you for developing Ava!

Does not work properly

It did not work properly when I created an account connected to my Apple account. But when I tried to sign in with my email (which is the exact same address as my apple account) it tried to create a whole new user and have me reverify my email address. It was a nightmare to try to get just 5 phones connected. Ava also intentionally keeps the accuracy of the dictation sub par around (80% accuracy) unless you are willing to subscribe or pay them. Yeah Ava is technically free but the free version works very poorly and inconsistently. Ava has some good ideas but they either don't work well or only function behind the pay wall...kinda shady. I was very hopeful for Ava because my family and I wanted to be able to communicate effectively with my brother's deaf gf...guess we'll just have to keep looking.

Hospital

I’m a severely hearing impaired individual who must read lips to understand what others are telling me. Mask mandates are necessary and I approve of them but are not good for my recognition of what others are trying to tell me. I recently had my knee replaced and discovered how easy this app made my treatment plan understood. I was able to pull up this app on my phone, hold it so I could see it, and it picked up the voices of the doctors and nurses who were working with me in the room. Eventually I had all the shifts in my room to educate them on how this app could help with other hearing impaired patients. It was wonderful! Thank you!!

Best app for losing hearing - Saved me!

About 2 months ago I went to sleep hearing and woke up profoundly deaf! I have a full time career , large family as well as active social life. All of that came to a halt until I found this app! It’s saved me! I can use it with friends individually and at important business meetings with the blue tooth conference microphone. As long as there is internet available, it works very well. This is a big deal! A game changer for onset deafness . I cannot thank you enough for being there this app! This journey as a deaf person is so much easier to accept with great tools like you!

Limited

This works well with strong WiFi but not with cellular data. My complaints are that you can’t decipher who spoke when speech is transcribed. Your speech isn’t highlighted to differentiate dialogue from another speaker. Ava doesn’t help with phone calls. Ava picks up all conversations so you need to do one to one communication somewhere closed off. The customer service meanders and takes days to reply. Even if they reply it doesn’t mean they’ll resolve your issue. Ava isn’t good with accents or speech impediments. I wish Ava could describe if the person is yelling, humming, or laughing. Overall Ava isn’t helpful.

Great in Theory but not fully functional

I work with students with hearing impairment in a school district. We had high hopes for Ava as a wonderful tool for our secondary students to get more from class lectures. It does show live transcripts of the classroom dialog but the save transcript function is not working. We followed the directions from the website and it should be working but when we go to the transcript tab, nothing has been saved. Tech support has been less than helpful telling us to follow the directions we have already completed. Maybe this is a glitch but until it is fixed this product is not worth the monthly cost if you need more than 5 hours per month of captioning.

So sad not working at all

I am paying for Ava and just upgraded to new iPhone 10xs max. I had a 10. I am at the apple store and we have tried my high speed LTE service and the Apple stores WiFi. I also have fastest internet through Cox. Everywhere I try to use the this app program I get a message saying slow internet causes problems in text appearing as nothing is being transcribed! Apple says their speed is very fast. I have written to support but get no help. When it works very good. Just a shame.

Will resume using seeing there was an update for bug fixes…

When my employer signed up with a premium service through this app, Ava crashed on the device. Havent been able to get sponsored or anything. this app Captioning services has been fine in translating while using. Oftentimes translation is SO INAPPROPRIATE IN A PUBLIC SETTING, that I need to find out who I told about it to use for their own hearing limitations, because i recommended it for seniors or family settings, and what, the translation misunderstanding and displaying derogatory terms is not professional. I dont understand this about Ava .

It’s okay

I find pretty frequently that about half the words are incorrect, or a few dozen sentences will not be transcribed at all. It gives me the gist of what’s being said sometimes, but I frequently encounter problems when someone doesn’t have a standard American accent (which is pretty much everyone I talk to — Southern US accents are rarely understood by Ava). I am also not able to use it to transcribe things like TikTok videos my friends show me on their phones.

It’s better than nothing, but I hope to be able to say something nicer than that in the future!

Thank you AVA

While Ava may not be perfect, it can make big improvements in a deaf person’s ability to “hear” others, particularly in relatively quiet environments and when there is good Wi-Fi. The transcription is not perfect, but if the other speaker enunciates, it can make a big difference to the quality of the transcription. Customer service is very responsive, and they listen to requests from the users and seem to be making ongoing improvements to the program.

Helped me talk with my elderly aunt

I told my cousin about Ava when his mom went into a senior care facility. He & I both loved using it to have chats with her in her last months and weeks of her life. She was able to tell me who some of my older cousins were, told me more about her mother, and other relatives in some very old photos we have. Even her mother on a horse! (Late 1800s!) I also use it in other situations, but that was the best use. ❤️

Amazing!

I’m very impressed as words appear on my screen within a second after spoken under ideal conditions ($11 mic for each phone and quiet background noise). I need that to enable this old almost deaf guy to follow the conversation around him.

The next challenge is to participate in a conversation of 8 people, each with this app on their phone, with some children playing in the background. Based on results so far, I expect good results. I’ll add to this review later.

Easy to use

this app has helped our deaf team member engage more fully in our Zoom meetings. While we are on video through Zoom, we each have this app downloaded on our phones so that it transcribes what each person is saying in real time. It’s made a huge difference in the efficiency of our video meetings. It’s not perfect with the transcription, but it’s close enough to understand what’s being said.

My Zoom Remote Learning with Ava

Today was an unexpected day, with COVID forcing our school district to go virtual. All of my usual hearing devices, which I use in my classroom, were left at school on Friday, leaving me to wonder how I will make it through the day. That’s when I remembered my new app with this app! And she captioned well! I was able to read much of what my students said by using this app on my iPad, while Zooming on my personal laptop! Ava ROCKS!

$30??

First month of signup is free, then they want $30 monthly?? Do they not know who they’re marketing towards? I am deaf, and have been using this for 2 weeks. I am utterly disappointed that they would want to charge $30 monthly for deaf people to have accessibility. Ava captures about 50 percent of what’s being said, but helps so much. Ava is not worth that monthly, and breaks my heart that they re more concerned about the cost instead of helping us feel included. Make it $5 a month and it would be the only app I’d HAPPILY pay monthly for.

Stress Free!

It’s wonderful to feel confident when someone is speaking to me… instead of laughing or saying ‘oh yes’ when my hair stylist speaks, and ending up with very short black hair, I can participate ! I can tell the person behind the deli counter that I want ‘1/2 pound’ and I’ll understand her when she says ‘one pound?’
I’ve tried another conversation app, and Eva is far more accurate!

I am Deaf

I have been using this app for quite awhile now and would recommend it to just about anyone who is either deaf or works with the deaf or hard of hearing. Ava has helped me in more ways then I can write in just one review, it has had its glitches but the development team is always on top of every issue. I am fairly newly deaf and Ava has been a lifesaver for me I highly recommend it.

Thank you for this app!

My father lost his hearing in February of 2018, and without Ava we wouldn’t have been able to communicate with him to the level that Ava allowed. this app gave him the ability to communicate with his doctors, audiologists and attend church. I can’t thank your company enough for creating Ava! I urge you to market Ava to the ENT medical community, so Ava is available to their patients.

17% hearing only

Just used Ava in a very important meeting with an attorney and it worked great. Yes there were a few missed words but I think it would be that way with any app used. It was a lifesaver for me today. Made me feel like I actually was a part of things again. Not used it in a group setting but it did well for a one on one with real time text.

Big help

My husband lost his battle with small cell lung cancer but for the last year before he died he was completely deaf due to paraneaplastic syndrome, Ava was a huge help we could all talk at the same time in the same room or on the other side of the country .

It is not working / no reliable at all

I was using the free time and when changing languages it doesn’t caption anymore. I through it has to do with the subscription, subscribed and is still not working. Guys you have a big bug here. I already asked you to fix this or I want my money back. Good when it works but it is not reliable ( and no, it isn’t my Internet conexión because you see the little microphone blinking as when is working but the screen is empty)
