Poorly written clues, hints are even worse

Downloaded this from its sister app, which I loved and eased through all of their puzzles. When that app concluded, it suggested HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles as a harder version or to purchase their own harder puzzles. Of course HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles is “extreme” - these clues are terrible and you’re left guessing! Sometimes it names three different “people” in a clue but the “not” clue only refers to one of those people, not all of those people. Similar to: “Barry wasn't late on Thursday, which wasn’t the train”… so you’re left wondering if Barry isn’t the train as well. The wording could be slightly better to make things more clear. When you get stuck (which is often), the “hints” just tell you to mark a box as true or false without any explanation, and it’s clear that they don’t go in order - it just picks a random cell to mark as false, but it’s evident there are zero hints that would even logically lead you to that conclusion. It just told me to mark a cell as false when both the person and the day weren’t mentioned in any of the clues, and there is no supporting evidence to suggest that there any true match ups that would make another pairing false… the hints are horrible. Will not be buying additional puzzles - I’ll go back to my other logic puzzle app and will give them my money.

Poorly written puzzles

Deleting this. Would be fun if the Logic puzzles were, well, logical! These types of puzzles have to be carefully written and double checked to provide clues and make sense with each other and the story. That is literally the basis for it. So why on one game where you have to figure out where all the cats nap in their owners home, how old they are and how long he’s had them does the story say he hasn’t owned any cats for longer than they’ve been alive, but the age of starts at 3yrs old while the categories in the grid allow for him to have owned some of the cats for only 1 or 2 years?
This is just an exercise in frustration when the information being provided has not been double and triple checked for accuracy! You’re supposed to be able to rely on the information being provided, not have to wonder if it’s wrong. The point isn’t to trick people into failing with half-truths. Anyone who’s ever taken the LSAT knows how well properly and infallibly written these games can and need to be to solve them.

Bought Vol 1 and wish I hadn’t.

These puzzles are not well written. Look elsewhere.
The writing is clumsy and can seem unclear

More importantly, there is a lot of incorrect or broken information in the clues and hints.
Every puzzle I’ve worked in Vol 1 so far will get down to a couple of options which would both fit the available spaces left, and all of the clues given. Three times now, I’ve tried using a hint in this situation, and had the same experience: a vague statement that “the green cells indicate the highlighted cell should be marked false”, with no observable logical relationship for that assertion and no further explanation provided. I go with what it says anyway and proceed to finish the puzzle, and it gives the message about being finished, but there are still some mistakes. I use the hint that removes mistakes, and all the final moves - INCLUDING the one directly stated in the previous hint - are cleared.

Disappointed

This was my favorite logics puzzle to play. The old way was way better and more user friendly a 4.8 star rating in my opinion. (-.2 for font size of some puzzles which was the only problem)I’ve bought a good few packs that i reuse constantly and would have purchased more but now I'm feeling my money was wasted, i don't wanna use it anymore and no other apps that I've tried even compared to the previous version. Would be nice if we had the option to keep the update or restore to previous version, until then.... so long 😩

Terribly worded puzzles

After completing all of the free puzzles in a similar game, it recommended I download this one and at first glance the two apps are identical, so I imagine they’re made by the same folks. I thought I’d enjoy it as much as the original app I played on. I was wrong. The clues for the puzzles in HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles are terribly written and worded, in my honest opinion. An example is:
“Rhonda has twice as many years of experience as the one surnamed Trebble (who isn’t Tina), who has more experience than the one who plays the trumpet.”

It’s still possible to figure out what they’re trying to say, but then I hit a point where my usual methods of solving seem to fail me and I feel like I’ve missed something in the poorly worded clues. When I finally lose patience and decide to use a hint, it only says “mark the highlighted square as false” but doesn’t explain why. I didn’t need to use hints in the other app except I think maybe one or two times when I was first starting to play, but from what I recall the hints explain why you are marking a square a certain way. I don’t want you to just give me the answer with no explanation, I want you to explain what I missed.

I like the puzzle, app isn’t suitable for phones

The puzzles are fun, but it’s hard to select the right box, it automatically puts an x, so you have to be careful that you have the right space and hopefully check it twice if you want to mark it correct. Easy on an iPad but the spaces are so small that on the phone you almost always hit the wrong space and have to back track to fix.

It would be much better if you selected a space then chose the action.

no explanations for hints

these problems are certainly challenging, however the opportunity to learn and improve logical reasoning skills is limited. unlike in the logic puzzles app by the same developer, this one does not provide guidance with the hints; the hints just tell you what to do in a cell without a rationale that you can learn strategy from. at some point, most people will hit a wall no matter how much they try to figure out why a move is warranted beyond the ones they reason through on their own. in my case, i felt helpless and abandoned the puzzle and, eventually, HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles as a whole, because i had hit a point of diminishing returns — which is a shame because i was reallyyyy enjoying the greater challenge these puzzles pose over the logic puzzles app. this one also offers fewer puzzles in the free starter pack. would love to see some updates!

Strange Puzzles (both a good and a bad thing)

I've enjoyed some of these logic puzzles from the free version quite a bit. The types of hints are a bit unusual and most of them seem to rely more on weird wording to trip you up rather than genuine logic puzzling. Some of them I like quite a bit though! One thing I will note that was the main reason why I took off two stars: Some of the puzzles' hints contain SO MUCH information that you don't need. One of the puzzles ("Free Parking") talks about the position of different people's parked cars using blocks (e.g. 'Joe's car is 3 blocks west of Jane's car). None of the puzzle has to do with the position of the cars in relation to each other. In addition, one of the hints is literally useless because it tells the user that 'the last person to arrive was wearing an ascot'. None of the puzzle has to do with when everyone arrived at the event. So there's no point of the hint being there at all. Some of the puzzles are decent and have really good hints that really make you think. But some of the puzzles' hints are just annoying to deal with. TBH HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles is the logic game equivalent of horror movies which rely on using cheap jump scares 99 percent of the time rather than prolonged and suspensful horror.

One small improvement will make it a 5⭐️

I love the other logic game from the same developer so I downloaded this one too. I like that these are much more challenging and the wording of the clues is different and challenging too. My only complaint is when I get stuck and click “suggest move” it just tells you what cell to mark true or false. The other logic puzzle will explain why with something like “if a is true and b is false then this must be this”. I love that because it helps me learn and increases my skill. It helps me see what I’m missing and I noticed in the other game I was getting better at them. Please add that to this one too!

Notes would help

Overall a great app. I have solved almost every puzzle, and would love to have more. The puzzles I haven’t solved all use hints that aren’t categories in the grid. They can be useful, but not without drawing pictures or making notes somehow. I often resort to taking a screenshot and printing it to figure these out.
It would be VERY helpful to be able to write these notes on the screen. Examples: 1) some puzzles have times, but many clues are in # of minutes. I'd like to write the elapsed time above each category 2) some clues require figuring out the sex of the characters; the ability to write M or F next to the name would eliminate having to re-do clues if I forget who’s who.

Much different from “Logic Puzzles”

This is an update to my previous review. I had correspondence with the developer which cleared up some issues I was having, and for that my rating has improved dramatically.
This Logic Problems app game is very different from Logic Puzzles. It has a different style and feel; the clues are sometimes a puzzle in themselves. Both games give a round of puzzles for free, you can try before you buy. Personally, I do not care for the style in this “Logic Problems” game. That said, the games are proofed by the puzzle supplier and other people are able to complete them - they are just too difficult for me and I find them frustrating, even at lower difficulty levels than on the “Puzzles” app.
I would also like to retract my previous statement that the developer had removed my poor review of his app. Developers are unable to do this.
So, if you enjoy this type of brain teaser I would say give it a shot, it’s a free trial, you only have to pay if you enjoy it and want more.

Quality uneven, but good app!

I love logic problems! Had the books for years, so it’s nice to have them on my phone.

The puzzles seem to vary quite a bit in quality. I don’t particularly care for those with a million variables because it’s hard to do trial and error electronically. I like those with clues that are concise and require one to make connections and realize implications beyond what’s stated.

Anyway, HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles works well, the price point is reasonable. I recommend it to those who love logic puzzles.

Notes feature would help!

Having grown up with the Penny logic books, it was fantastic to have an app with a similar level of difficulty! I liked the sister app, but I wasn’t feeling challenged enough. This is perfect!
I’d give this 5 stars, but I saw a review that requested a “notes” feature and I completely agree! I use my phone’s Notes app to help me with some of the more layered puzzles (ie. the parking space one!). It would be nice to be able to take notes or draw inside of HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles , instead of having to switch back and forth between apps.

So fun!

This is comically challenging for me. I’m constantly saying to myself “it’s ok, you’re good at other things in life” ... but that’s part of the fun in learning new things. Once I read the answer I feel better and excited to try to think through the clues differently. I think it would be cool if some of the answers had another layer of hand holding to help guide me through solutions a little more, and how I can think differently through areas where I probably got stuck.

Absolutely incredible app

First: none of these puzzles contain any errors. I’ve solved 729 of 730 puzzles and have never had to use a hint. As HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles itself tells you, the puzzles are HARD and they’re not just saying that!!

HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles is so extremely satisfying for anyone looking to exercise their brain. Like I mentioned, I’ve completed all but one puzzle—the Extreme 4x5 titled Free Parking. It’s been driving me crazy for over a year now and I LOVE the challenge!! I periodically revisit it whenever I need to really work my brain.

My only “complaint” is that I’m dying for more puzzles!

I’ve been looking for this!

Ive always loved logic puzzles and I’ve been looking for some that make me think. I’ve downloaded different apps but never liked the layout and features, however this one is very user friendly and is my new and only go to. I love that i can check my answers as i go and the clues were just enough to get your board started but i had to use a lot of actual logic to really solve it. I’ve enjoyed it so far!

Awesome!

They’re not so much for those who’ve never done logic puzzles before, but those who have, will love these. Some of them are extremely challenging, and some you will definitely need a pen and paper to figure out, but that’s what makes them so great. And if you don’t feel like doing one that hard, there’s plenty of others for you to do. So much better than the other logic puzzle apps I’ve downloaded!!

Show dogs isn’t written with enough nor the correct clues

I believe “Show Dogs” is written poorly. I tried it several days in a row, to see if it was just my lack of concentration. I’ve done over 70 puzzles of various difficulty and finished all of them within 24 hours. This one never made complete sense. Please have an editor look it over again.

My favorite logic puzzle app

No ads or vids to watch. Reason why this is my favorite logic puzzle app is because of the very detailed hints. In other apps if you get stuck the hints provided are very vague and its hard to learn from. The hints in HardPennyDellLogicPuzzles are very detailed and they teach you the thought process to solve the clues. This way you slowly learn how to solve these puzzles on your own.

Love that there are no ads!

I like the no ad model and hope more games do it. I am so happy I don’t have to earn xp or coins, etc. I love this game! The only critique I have of this game is that the hints do not seem to be based on how I’ve completed the puzzle and there is no explanation for the hints. They are partial answers rather than hints that help you solve on your own.
