Buy Me a Pie! - Grocery List Reviews

This is a fantastic app. I use the pro version and I definitely recommend it. Color-coding is a great feature - I use it for all sorts of lists, not just grocery shopping: online orders received/not received/to return, books I’m reading, weekend plans, and gift shopping for friends and family during the holidays. The user interface is intuitive, and I love that you can type continuously while creating several list items in a row, hitting enter between each, without having to tap the + sign to add each new item like most other list apps I’ve tried. Saves a lot of time!

The only downside is that, as part of this feature, Buy Me a Pie does this annoying thing where you can’t type commas, colons, or semicolons in any list item - ever. It will automatically truncate the text and turn whatever’s after the punctuation into a new line item. I wish there were a way to turn this feature off, because I use BuyMeaPieGroceryList to keep track of pretty complex things and when I need to type a comma, I want the comma to appear as typed. I’m sure some people love this feature, but for me, hitting enter to start new lines is enough. So an on/off toggle for treating punctuation as a new line in the settings would be awesome.

Until recently, I loved BuyMeaPieGroceryList. It wasn’t perfect, but it works well and has often made life easier for me. Recently, things I did not add to the list have made their way onto it. Since several family members share a food shopping list, this has resulted in unnecessary purchases. I think these are advertising or sponsored products, but it isn’t always obvious. This needs to be fixed. It is not acceptable for BuyMeaPieGroceryList to add items to my list and it not be obvious that I did not add them.

My other criticisms are small. I often find myself wishing I could attach an image to items so my family can know exactly what I want. It would also be nice to have an option to send notices via text or email to members of a list that it has been updated. Otherwise it has everything I need in a list app.

So, I posted a somewhat negative review without fully exploring the options in BuyMeaPieGroceryList and I did find a toggle for switching off “special offers” which does remove these intrusive ads, it seems. My apologies for jumping the gun, 5 stars again as is well deserved for an otherwise flawless app.

Previous review: “I’ve sung the praises of BuyMeaPieGroceryList to anyone who would listen, but lately when I use it, the ads are so ridiculously intrusive and fill up half the screen when I try to add items to my list. This is unnecessary and really should have a toggle option for “Pro” users. I wholly understand ads in a free app or “lite” version, but when a user pays to upgrade, then those should go away. This may seem like a small inconvenience to some, but it really is a big annoyance. Dropped from 5 to 3 stars.”

Update: Our family loves BuyMeaPieGroceryList but for some time now it has been having a hard time updating added or deleted items in real time on each other’s phones and Apple watches. Sometimes it’s days later or never happens.

I love that we can make different lists for different stores. It's good for more things than just grocery shopping. We had a list while my husband was deployed. His time zone was very different than mine so if he thought of anything he'd like me to ship to him while I was unavailable, he would just put it in the "Things to Ship" list we created. As soon as one person adds an item, we all see it on our own phones. This makes it great for our kids to add to the grocery list as they open the last of an item.

Bought this to replace a list app that didn't make the iOS 8 transition quickly enough. BuyMeaPieGroceryList is a lot like that last one, but even better. I like that it syncs between devices. I like how it saves items that have been purchased so one can quickly re-add them to the list when one needs to purchase the item again. I like the color coding that one can add to items. I like that items are easily editable. I like having multiple lists.

It might be nice in a future version to be able to attach a photo to an item on the list, so one doesn't have to type lots of details about it. It would be nice to see "red wine" on a list, and then open a photo to see the details of a specific wine.

I love BuyMeaPieGroceryList. Can customize items based upon where found in the store making efficient shopping easy! I also love how a busy household can all contribute. My husband and I can update along the way - seeing what others add in real time. Also as items get checked off all people are notified - I will admit it makes me realize "oh boy, he's at the grocery already! I better quick add what I've forgotten!" Only reason im not giving 5 stars - it is super easy to accidentally cross something off. I wish it required a side swipe or something. It's so easy to accidentally tap the wrong line or touch your screen as you go. Oh, also love how it interfaces on Apple Watch. Makes instore shopping a breeze!!!!

I would actually give it full five stars for what it is: a reliable, simple to use, intuitive shopping lists. I’ve been using a paid version for few years and I like it. Why I knocked off a star is that newest version doesn’t allow me to add to the name price of the item. What I mean e.g. “organic brown sugar $1.99”. I like to add prices to see next time whether price went up or down. In the past when money were tight I’d also use it to see whether my shopping list is within my budget or not. Thankfully, these days I don’t have to watch it so closely. I feel it’s a solid app for all the basic shopping lists. I like that it’s a clean design, intuitive to navigate and overall does the job. I recommend it.

I definitely like and use BuyMeaPieGroceryList. Syncing has been seamless for me, so I can type lists on my computer and then shop with my phone. I especially like the look and feel of BuyMeaPieGroceryList and ability to loosely organize items by category, but I do wish there were more options for further organizing the lists/categories. As it is, once items are placed into one of 8 categories, the items are kept in an alphabetical list, and the categories themselves are in a preset order. I still use and highly rate BuyMeaPieGroceryList because I like its functionality better than all the other grocery list apps I've tried (and I've tried several).

I have used BuyMeaPieGroceryList for several years now, I love the color coding so I can keep from zigzagging all over the grocery store. I love the sharing to my husband so he can shop occasionally. Also the additional lists was cool because I made a Keto Foods list just to train myself on items & brands tag hat were clean. When I originally downloaded several apps the thing that narrowed down the win was the icon/logo, it was and still is the best/prettiest that shows what BuyMeaPieGroceryList does and that’s why it has made the cut to be on the Front page of my Home Screen for several years now 💜

I still am impressed with Buy Me A Pie. Stupid name, but who cares. It works perfectly every time.

I always have my phone with me. I always have multiple lists going (Dollar General, Kroger, Lowes, ingredients list for Fat Soup because I can never remember what I need to buy when it's time to make a washtub of soup for the freezer). Walk into any given store, pull up the list and I'm off. No more standing in the middle of the aisle blocking traffic trying to remember that last thing I think I need.

BuyMeaPieGroceryList simply uncomplicates. Running low on eggs! Put it on the list. Done. Don't have to think about that again!

The developer just notified me that I can change the tap function to cross off an item, to a swipe! 99.9% = user error. 😀 Now I’m in love and we’re rocking 5 stars. (Here’s my original review: I like most of the functionality, but the one MAJOR issue that kills the convenience of BuyMeaPieGroceryList is the cross off of items if you touch the screen. It’s too sensitive. I’ll touch the item on my list to slid to the edit mode and it crosses it off. The touch function should allow you to put the cursor on the item where you want to edit. To cross the item off your list you should have to slide left. Otherwise BuyMeaPieGroceryList is great.)

Overall, BuyMeaPieGroceryList is great at what it does. It allows my family to keep a running and synced grocery list. The apple watch addition is super useful when shopping and to date, everything is stable and works as expected.

I do have a list of quibbles that removed a star from my rating.
1) “It’s high time to create a list!” notifications. Why do I need to be bothered to create a list when I clearly don’t have to create a list. Don’t bother me with trivial notifications.
2) Color categories can’t be moved and their order represents the presentation order within BuyMeaPieGroceryList . I personally use colors to represent each aisle, but if the store moves aisles, I can’t change the order of the colors in the listing so the order presented is no longer synchronized to the store aisle ordering.
3) Category Colors & Items are shared between lists. No two stores have the same aisle order and I personally don’t need to see grocery suggestions in my hardware store list and vice versa. This alone makes the application only useful for a single store and a single list.

This is our go to app to create and consolidate our shopping needs. Each one enters what they need and/or wants. Then on shopping day we look at the list and swipe to cross off purchases. Any crossed off item can be re-swiped to get it back on the list. Color coding aides in grouping items found in the same grocery aisle, dept or store. No need to text a follow up message to check the list, Buy Me Pie does it automatically. So don't spend thousands of $$$ on a smart fridge, get BuyMeaPieGroceryList to create your shopping list for groceries, back 2 school, home improvement, art supplies, etc. etc. etc.

BuyMeaPieGroceryList is still the best list app, but unfortunately I am rather disappointed with the latest update, so I have dropped my rating to a 3 star. The reason for my disappointment is the way that the number of a certain item is listed now. It use to let you put the number in front of the item, example: if I need 4 tuna, it let me put the 4 in front of the tuna. Now it automatically puts the number off to the right where it can’t be seen well. That is very annoying to me.

This issue is resolved so, once again I’ll give BuyMeaPieGroceryList 5 stars.
It’s a very easy and useful app.

Edit: I’ve now been using the pro version of BuyMeaPieGroceryList for years and am still happy! The developer keeps up with iOS updates. BuyMeaPieGroceryList is fantastic!!!

It's so nice to add to the shopping list whenever and wherever I am, knowing whoever goes to the store first has the most up-to-date list. BuyMeaPieGroceryList always works, even after iOS updates. It syncs real time, every time. I like that I can choose list change notifications, or not. The developers update BuyMeaPieGroceryList regularly and it's definitely worth the small cost to go pro.

In the future, I'd like the option to add a picture of a specific item.

This is a great app and I use it all the time. However, I don't believe I'm using it to its fullest potential. I just use it as a quick and easy list-and-cross-off device, but I'm not sure about how much more it can do. It seems to organize items, but I don't know what the categories are, they're just color blocks. I'm sure it's just my reluctance to spend time figuring it out, and not BuyMeaPieGroceryList , but I do find that with most apps like this, there's precious little "how-to" advice included, and you're kinda left to your own devices once they've got you to purchase and download something. If anyone knows of a way to learn how to use this better, I'm listening.

I’ve down loaded BuyMeaPieGroceryList on my phone, my husbands and family ipad. We use this beyond groceries. It’s our universal to-do list. When groceries are needed and I’m not home my husband just adds the list and it updates on my end! I started using it for Christmas lists and kids when they need school supplies they add it and it appears and before I come home I check to see what I can get. It refreshes on everyone’s apps so no excuses. The color coding makes it functional to grab all items in the sections of the grocery store. So again no excuses to miss anything!!

Grocery shopping with one hand using the phone isn’t great, but with the Apple Watch this is fantastic. Setup your list of items, then tap them to move them to the shopping list and they will be on the watch categories you assigned by layout of the store. Super easy to maintain by items from each store, group items by similar location in the store, how many to buy, and just tap them on the watch when you put in cart to remove them from needed items. And you can share with others so they can added items.

I have 3 different places that I live in. There is no way I could keep track of what I need where. BuyMeaPieGroceryList is fantastic for keeping me updated. Plus the color coded fgunction allows me to know what I need from deiiferent parts of the store. The ability to have more than one person on BuyMeaPieGroceryList means that when my partner needs something from the store, he can put it on the list, and I can get it when I go to the store. These guys figured out how to do a grocery list right! 5 Stars!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I paid a lot of money for both the iOS and desktop apps. They are probably the best grocery list apps available. However, after not using them for a year I open them up today to find there are product ads being added to my lists. If this were a free app I could accept that. But on an expensive app like this?! Shame on the developers who decided to push ads on BuyMeaPieGroceryList.

And why am I getting a response from BuyMeaPieGroceryList developer that they want me to contact them so they can look into the problem when they must be aware the product ads exist? That’s crazy. Stop pushing annoying ads if you are going to charge a hefty fee to buy the desktop and mobile apps.

This is a great app. I’ve used it for over 4+ years, and it’s always my go-to app for creating any list. I did not hesitate to upgrade to pro because it’s worth it. I use it every day. Love that it syncs across all devices. Especially my watch for quick checking off while I am at the grocery store. I love the color coordination. Love them multiple lists. The sharing list option is great. Love the saved items list editing and color editing screen. I can edit multiple words all at once rather than individually. Love using it with Siri dictate. I would recommend it hands down best app out there. Has survived all the iOS upgrades 🎉 please don’t ever go away.

If I could turn BuyMeaPieGroceryList onto landscape view I would have given it 5 stars!!! This has saved our marriage! We use it for so much more than just for groceries. We have lists for every store we shop at as well as take out restaurants! Can't live without it!

Edit: I don’t know what is going on with BuyMeaPieGroceryList. It used to be so easy to link up lists on all our devices, but that isn’t the case anymore. We have had BuyMeaPieGroceryList since the beginning and never had this problem. Please put it back the way it was. This I why I down graded from 5 stars to three. I am almost to the point of finding another app to use.
