About Minnesota Air

The Minnesota Air App is provided by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), The MPCA monitors environmental quality, offers technical and financial assistance, and enforces environmental regulations.

The MPCA works with many partners - citizens, communities, businesses, all levels of government, environmental groups and educators - to prevent pollution and conserve resources.

During these days, the MPCA Air Quality App will provide timely air quality information to help you reduce your exposure to air pollution.

Even so, every year there are a few days when air quality becomes unhealthy due to increased levels of fine particles or ozone.

Compared to other states around the country, Minnesota ranks high in overall air quality.

Daily air quality forecasts are also available.

Not Accurate

I have asthma so monitoring air quality is important to my health. I already have a good weather app which provides excellent air quality information. However, I thought a local app might be interesting, so I tried this one. It was consistently poor accuracy and gives very limited information that can’t be customized at all. Don’t bother with MinnesotaAir.

Update broke it

The google map update broke it. Now you can only see the daily forecast, not the current air quality measurements.

Questions

What is considered to be the division between north and south for the Metro?

Map problem

Seems like the map doesn't not correlate with the actual data or forecast.

Basic Usability Issues - App Needs Some Design Work

Guessing MinnesotaAir was probably created by developers (without designers) on a very tight timeline with little budget. Missing basic functionality & content. They don’t tell you 1) how they get the data 2) what kind of alerts you’re signing up for. Also they don’t allow you to enter your zip code or use geolocation for accuracy. No real customization options. I hope the state of MInnesota invests in more user centered design for MinnesotaAir, especially as we experience more bad air due to catastrophic wildfires. It *could* be so useful…but right now it’s not. Other (national) apps do a much better job. Hope it improves!
