I am tired of everyone thinking that using AI makes an app good. AI makes BoringReport possible, but AI alone is just hype. I originally gave this 5 stars because it was exciting; but it seems that the developers are spending more time/money marketing than actually improving BoringReport quality itself. The images and UI updates are useless. Improve your news feed, please!

I think this idea is great, all of the news articles that are marked "now" or by timestamp are not really in realtime. Sometimes they are 2 to 3 days old. The timestamp appears to be when the article was generated rather than when it was actually published. That makes this more like Boring Old News Report. Moving categories around is really kind of a pointless feature. it would be nice to have a fully combined feed with filterable categories. Also, some of the news sources are hardly what I would consider reputable if not completely unknown? Is it possible to filter out the unknowns?

BoringReport store is full of these news aggregation AI apps. I found this one reddit hoping that meant good quality, but the premature delivery and UI of this news feed begs for plenty of features that a standard news app should have. I can't filter out/follow specific news companies. I cant search over a specific time. Many of the articles are 1-2 days old. I get attacked by like 20 popups when I open BoringReport . I thought this was supposed to be different from other news apps?? Stick to a real news aggregator made by a company, not one written by two college kids and ChatGPT

This is a great start! Heard about it on reddit. Just wish I could filter the news by category or news outlet. Also, sometimes the summaries are completely wrong.

Update: the images are a little less boring, but the quality of the feed still has not improved at all since the last time I opened BoringReport almost 2 months ago.

The news order is seems to be based on when the article was generated and not actually published even though at the top it says sorted?

Also, you have to make an account in order to have a "customized" feed, which is really annoying.

I wanted BoringReport to be better. I really like the idea of it a lot. Unfortunately there’s some UI stuff that make it a little wonky. More importantly is the news is old, so this is not a way to get the latest news. It’s not running each article through a summary AI for you, it just does it at a central location and then the article is distributed. Perhaps the distribution method is why all the news is old? Not sure. But I’ll check back in to see how BoringReport matures.

It lists identical articles one after the other.
For example it displayed like 10 articles about the announcement of the google pixel phone.

Since it has not personalization, you’d think someone would hand-curate it.

The premise is excellent and this is a great start. But there needs to be a LOT more customization and options for what you see. I want to filter out certain sources, and I want the “Entertainment” category to be more about movies and TV and less about celebrity gossip. Just needs a lot of work.

The concept and how the ai removes sensational headlines seems to work well. This is a novel idea. However, it is running my battery down because its running in the background. Ive also changed the setting to NOT run in the background yet it still is. If this was fixed it would be a big improvement.

But as the other reviewer said, it’s populated by older news.

Been using it for a few days and it seems to filter out all of the nonsense and provides just the need to know facts, it’s been awesome so far. However one thing I wish BoringReport did was remember the sort type I had it on, as I prefer to sort by new instead of trending, since I’ve noticed some of the trending news can be up to several days old. If I close BoringReport out with sort by new and I reopen later, it’ll default back to sort by trending. If it could remember to leave it at my last sort setting that would be great! Otherwise overall pretty impressed with BoringReport so far.

I cannot understate how much I love BoringReport, and how much I love the idea. It’s such an awesome use of AI technology. That being said, I have some reservations. The news doesn’t refresh often, which I understand is because BoringReport is new, but it often feels like a even human transcriber could update the feed faster, and so the use of AI is not very prevalent. I see a future where BoringReport could update hundreds of up-to-date articles by the hour or even minute, but that future seems a bit far away.

I also want to say that the latest update has completely broken BoringReport , and my feed will no longer load anything. This is needless to say a pretty big deal, and I’m assuming a fix is already on the way, but just wanted to say that. Anyway, love BoringReport and can’t wait to see more! 4 stars for now, but a 5 stars is very much on the way.

Love the idea of shortened, meaty summaries with the full source readily available. One big improvement idea that could be implemented is utilizing reader view for the built in article viewer. This would allow it to match the dark and light mode of BoringReport to look more unified. Also means when I have it on dark mode and am trying to read at night, I won’t randomly be blinded by a website that is pure white!

Really needs the ability to block sources—not just to avoid news sources we don’t like but to block news sources we don’t care about. I don’t want to have to wade through local news from Minnesota when I live in NYC. Also blocking topics. I don’t care about the UK’s Royal Family. Please let me not have to wade through all the headlines the next time a royal has a baby. I hope all this makes sense. Thanks otherwise for a good app!

I know it's an iPad app, but just a heads up on macOS Ventura with an M1 Ultra it crashes immediately upon trying to open it.

A great use case for gpt models. Loving the feed so far.

BoringReport lets you know what is going on without all the clickbait designed to make you mad. It has made staying informed so much better.

Using AI to desensationalize the news is brilliant! Wish I’d thought of it first. BoringReport is stoopid-easy to use, and helps me by summarizing stories in a couple of paragraphs, which even my ADD brain can absorb. I expect the topical coverage will get broader and deeper over time. More US news sources and political coverage (which is what really meeds this kind of treatment!) would be especially welcome.

I love BoringReport! One of the reasons i avoid reading news is because all the sensationalism and outrage stoking leaves me feeling upset. But BoringReport makes the news very boring, and provides short, bland summaries of each article. I can scroll through BoringReport for ten minutes a day to get a sense of what’s going on without ever feeling annoyed.

Would also love the ability to filter out articles by keyword.

I’ve been using BoringReport for a few months and it really answers the need for non-biased news source.

I love BoringReport's design, and I love that I don't have to pay for the news. Perfectly boring and such an amazing idea. A big thank you to the creator(s) of BoringReport!
