InStyle Magazine Reviews

I bought a subscription through Apple Pay, which was supposed to include a free 1-month trial and 12 issues...so far nothing has been downloadable. InStyleMagazine doesn’t show any issues available to read, only the most current issue with an option to purchase it. I am very disappointed, I think I’ll cancel and stick to print.

I look forward to reading InStyle on my iPad, but I have not been able to download the December issue even though I am paid through June 2020. I can access the magazine on my iPhone, but my preference is to read on my iPad. I have refreshed and synced but the home page is still asking for a payment. I will not be resubscribing.

1. The new layout and design of the updated app is not user friendly. It does not flow. It’s obnoxious to have to scroll through each magazine cover. And once inside you have to click through the pages.

2. The new app did not transfer all the previous content. I used the “InStyle Color Guides” weekly to figure out what colors I could pair with others to give outfits new feels. These color guides are no where to be found and I transferred all of my previous purchases. Even more annoying- I paid for those.

3. Not so much an app update complaint rather than a content complaint. I do not want to read political articles in my fashion magazine. I want to read about fashion. Designers, trends, tips, etc. If I want to read about politics I’ll grab a newspaper- or get on Facebook for that matter. My point is- instyle is my escape from all of that.

I read almost everything on my iPad, provided that it is available. Books, various magazines, newspapers etc. I have three other digital magazine subscriptions and love them. I think they are generally easier to read, more interactive, and sustainable.

That said, this is the worst app I have ever interacted with. It worked fine, until I purchased a digital subscription. Now InStyleMagazine crashes before it even opens and I can not access my subscription at all. What a rip off!! I was so looking forward to reading the fall fashion issue, and not having a huge magazine to throw away after I am finished with it. Now, I feel like I should not purchase any INSTYLE magazines ever again, just out of principle.

No matter what I do I can't get InStyleMagazine to work for me. I'm a current subscriber and used my account number, etc. to set up a sign in and every time I get an error that says "error in authentication, please sign in again." I've tried doing this many times and always get the same error. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same thing happens. I emailed customer service but they told me to do the things I've been doing. I'm so bummed. Even though I'm a current subscriber I actually ended up purchasing the March issue so I could read it on my iPad. Hopefully this will get resolved soon... I LOVE InStyle magazine and really want InStyleMagazine to work for me.

I love reading my In Style on my 1st gen iPad. Haven't had any issues until this most recent September issue. Like others, I too have had issues w/ InStyleMagazine not loading. I dowloaded the Sept. issue & started reading, no problem. Then the next time I tried to load, InStyleMagazine wouldn't even open. After several tries of force-closing InStyleMagazine w/ no success, I shut off my iPad completely & this finally did the trick; I was able to load InStyleMagazine . However, next time I tried to read, again, InStyleMagazine wouldn't load. I read other reviews of people having the same problem who deleted & reinstalled InStyleMagazine then redownloaded the Sept issue. I tried this last nite & again, after redownloading the issue (which takes forever!!) it opened just fine. However, this morning, once again, InStyleMagazine will no longer load so I can continue reading. I don't often leave negative reviews but I LOVE my InStyle & this problem REALLY needs to be fixed!!

InStyleMagazine really needs a major update. The pages of most of the pages are BLURRY not just slightly, so bad that I cannot read anything, despite it showing up clearly in the page viewer. This is unacceptable. InStyle is the best fashion magazine out there and the subscribers need a better app to be able to view it clearly and in a timely fashion.

I don't want to waste paper, why can't we write on the pages? Or even bookmark? I will unsubscribe if these problems persist. The most important one being the blurry pages, I can't view most of a magazine that I paid for? Absolutely ridiculous!!!

Always have to refresh to validate my subscription with every new issue. Should be automatic. Also no way to have a digital only subscription.

InStyleMagazine used to let me browse the pages of the magazines by thumbprints, but they seem to have disappeared, I’m disappointed.

Unless I'm doing this wrong, the only thing I can figure out how to do with the bookmark feature (i.e. favorites) is to mark an entire FEATURE or section of an issue. This is a giant pain because generally, when you want to mark something in a magazine, you want to mark the page it was on, not the 2 or three pages before and after it! What if you can't remember exactly what it was you marked? Hmmm...I have an entire section on makeup marked, but was it the eyeliner on page 124 or the lipstick on page 125 that I marked? Or was it an ad for a product in the middle of the section? Guess I'll never know until InStyle fixes this!

I would like an option to subscribe to just the iPad version, so I don't have both the print version and the iPad version. I have so many of the print versions and I really don't know what to do with them except give them away. It would also be much more eco friendly if I could just purchase a subscription online and not be worry about the print version also coming in the mail. Additionally, it would be more cost efficient to over iPad users an online subscription, so we wouldn't have to pay the full version of each issue. Thank you.

I love being able to read my magazine this way and it's very convenient for traveling. There are a few things that would make it even better. 1st - would love to be able save the page that I am on. Every time I close InStyleMagazine I have to look from the beginning for where I was. 2nd - it would be great if I could mark a page or put a note on it so that I can go back to it later.
The last thing is that I have a lot of trouble opening up the mag. from the closed app. the bottom menu disappears quickly and I can't make it reappear. I have to close it and reopen it and quickly hit one of the menu buttons.

See below for prior review. customer service did try to help but were unable to do so. I called apple but they wanted $$$ upfront. I checked for possible iOS updates and realized that I hadn't installed the most recent version on my iPad 2. Once I updated my iOS, I was able to read all my current and previous issues. Try that before giving up. Only four stars because it seems like InStyle customer service might have suggested that.

Latest update wiped out all my prior purchases AND the help functions and restore buttons are totally useless. FIX PLEASE?!!! I love this mag but InStyleMagazine update stinks.

I was so excited to finally see InStyle available on my iPad!!! So I downloaded InStyleMagazine , signed in, AND... no content in the Library... so i tried again... and yet again. I could buy the issue but not download it as a subscriber. I had to sign out and reinstall InStyleMagazine a couple of times; now it's working no problem. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 just bc of this annoyance to set up. I LOVE the magazine and am thrilled to be able to carry it with me wherever I go.

I've been waiting FOREVER for my fave fashion magazine to create an app for iPad. As a busy professional, I don't have as much time to thumb through my paper editions as i'd like. As I always have my iPad on me, it'll now be much easier to peruse my magazine. My only complaint is that I wish the current (December 2011) & some of the back issues were available. The already-mentioned idea of being able to shop directly from InStyleMagazine would be great, too.
