NBC Bay Area: News & Weather Reviews

My family was cut off from most of the communication when the power went off in Moraga and then the fire in Moraga broke out, the authorities cut off the home WiFi..but we found out that they could get text messages from me in San Jose. I started sending them your news via text and she could open them. At 6:00 am they found out from me and your app that the fire was a 4 min. drive from their home. And they were never warned....
I flipped to other channels but no one was on the ground in Moraga..thank you for your up close coverage....

Who doesn’t wanna know what’s going on in 2020, especially now; in the Bay Area specifically? Surfing news channels and recording various news channels is finally a thing of the past for me ...thanks to NBCBayArea. I wish I knew about it sooner and am overjoyed to know now. Thank you NBC...I’ve had NBCBayArea less than a day and it’s already been a huge blessing to me...timely answering ALL my questions in one place ...& informing me of what I didn’t know and want to know 👍👏😊🙏💜

I am subtracting two stars. Both for annoying navigation problems. When I open NBCBayArea to see a weather alert, I can never exit out of the weather page. There is no easy link back to the home page. That’s an app 101 first rule of design. Easy navigation. NBCBayArea also tends to not navigate to the alert when I click the alert and see the article. Instead, it puts me to the main article rather than the alert. The problem here is, the behavior never acknowledges the alert has been seen, making the number of alerts seen on the icon pointless.

For the last several months, I have not been able to access articles in the Local News section. Any time I tap an article to read it, it displays the first article in the bottom section — at the moment, it’s the “People are there for you” one. If I swipe to try and access the previous article, it takes me back to the article list.

When I saw NBCBayArea had been updated with bug fixes, I got my hopes up, but it’s still doing the same darn thing. It’s really frustrating, since I like NBCBayArea in general.

Keeps me informed and up to date. 2020 was an unusual year and as such, even more valuable to have NBCBayArea and its notifications. Alerted to fire Hazzard’s, evacuation notices and regions, vaccine clinics and current Bay Area Covid tiers. I suspect it would have told me when and if a swarm of locusts were on the way. Thanks NBC Bay Area! It’s great (well not always the news...but NBCBayArea )

Overall, NBCBayArea does what it’s meant to do. I took stars off because I wish there were more options when it comes to push notifications. I love push notifications for news, but do not care for certain things like sports and politics. It spams my phone and Fitbit with news I do not want on push notifications.

Also, you have to watch an ad for every video. There’s already ads on every article that makes it look like a click bait website.

For these reasons, I only give 2 stars.

The local news provided here is timely and informative, but what’s with the clickbait “articles” following the actual articles? This is a news app! The stories following the news articles should be other news and information, not internet trash. If you need revenue, go with ads from reputable companies. Using clickbait makes the whole thing seem shady and unreliable.

Weather is often inaccurate for Mill Valley area.

I can only give NBCBayArea a 2 star rating. The news itself is great. And NBCBayArea , while a bit laggy and clunky at times, is better than what you’d expect for a local news app. However, the real reason for the low rating is that there is no way to turn off the program alerts. Sending me breaking news alerts is fine and exactly what I signed up for. But pushing an alert for figure skating finals or for the live version of some ridiculous holiday movie is VERY ANNOYING! Please consider changing this.

Up to date news. Important info for those tech savvy. easy to use for older people. More disabled options needed. Accessory is important... I didn’t try everything to see if it was accessory compatible. I’m dyslexic and I can read it but I do worry about the others who can’t. 4/5 only because I didn’t see it but it’s not a big deal, because figuring out disability is hard.

Appreciate NBCBayArea and it’s constant coverage of the happenings in the Bay Area. A former resident, with family and friends all around that area, I am so glad to stay informed of what’s going on, and be able to check on those I care about when necessary.

Breaking news, local and global! Im completely immersed in caregiving elderly parents and grandchildren so I don’t have much time to read the news paper or listen to it on tv or radio. I always tune into NPR now in my car but I appreciate staying in touch with the real world happenings and this NBC Bay Area app reminds me to check into what’s going on around me. 👍

The local weather display is very effective. It includes a prediction of precipitation and wind four hours into the future. Very helpful when planning a walk or hike.
The local news and traffic is also quite helpful.

I am blown away how much their news team programs hypes NBCBayArea and it is just horrible. Such a surprise for a quality news broadcast team. Their investigative reporters should examine why this terrible app made it into NBCBayArea store. Landscape video issues and the inability to even play video in background it’s very poor. Everywhere you look in NBCBayArea is riddled with strange design decision and just buggy behavior. They should pull it. It's embarrassing for a local Silicon Valley broadcaster to have an app like this.

Since 1975, KNTV has been my favorite tv channel for its well rounded news from the entire Bay Area, with staff who reflect our many cultures, age groups, and high tech culture. Your coverage of this year’s turbulent politics has been prompt and informative. Thanks for continuing your great work!

The local, and national news are great and are delivered quickly. However, the weather portion of it is a plus. Every time there’s a chance of rain or it’s raining close by we are notified, also we can have a live and predicted forecast which gives us more credibility and information.

Before RVERY news clip you have to watch a 30+ second ad. EVERY CLIP! That means in 5 minutes or less if need, you will see at least 10 clips. Even when the news clip is shorter than the ad!

And it is usually the same ad over and over. Even when I tried to send feedback on this in NBCBayArea , NBCBayArea scrolls the bottom of the screen to an ad while you are typing your comment.

There are many other news apps. I suggest passing on this one until they show some respect to the user.

NBC is my favorite station for shows and news/weather on TV and it follows through on their app! I can keep in touch with everything going on during these unusual times. The alerts are great! Well Done NBC!

Horrible changes to the aesthetics. Tons of white space, tiny and light colored font. Obviously designed and tested on the 20 something set and not for the aging eyes over 40. Local news link is buried. Far less user friendly. I use NBCBayArea everyday and now have to wear glasses to read the weather section. Hour by hour future temp trend reduced. Next days weather is less apparent. Very disappointed.

I think this is one of the best apps to let us know what’s going on in our neighbors. I appreciate each time when I encounter useful information. Not only a simple text but also good quality video clips!

NBC Bay Area is the best Bay Area local news app. It’s not perfect to me, but it has more contents than CBS or KGO news app. I also like their weather portion because it has the hourly forecast of wind speed which I use to gage how much hotter it would be without a breeze outside. NBCBayArea also have the latest breaking news.

We recently moved away from the Bay Area. Enjoyed the reliability of the having the local news available on my phone at that time. Now that we are in WA state I can still keep up with what’s going on. Gives me a little peace of mind having a young adult child and friends living several states away when I can still keep up with the news in the area.

Appreciated, having the news alerts delivered when it's happening is "Appreciated"! There have been a few times when I've avoided an area because of the undesired activity. I also like being updated on, What's going on! If it's important to me I know about it as soon as you release the initial report then I'll listen later for updates.

I use to live in the Bay Area and my children now live and work there. I love to keep on top of events and news Thru the NBC App. It never crashes. They are always on top of the most important news and information. They are beyond superior. They are the BEST hands down. Great job NBC Bay Area. My only go to for news.

I think it’s a decent app for news (both national and Bay Area specific). My complaint is the weather/rain notifications, that seem to get triggered by location services. On my commute to work this morning I had about 12 “moderate rain detected”... pretty obnoxious. Figure out a way to fix this and I’ll give it 5 stars!

I really don’t use the news function, and I’ve turned off any alerts.

For forecasting, the weather function is by far the most accurate. I use NBCBayArea only for that

Updated news about local issues, plus news breaking on the CA or national platform! When traveling & camping, it helps keep me in touch with my home town!

I do like your app as a way to know what is going on in the Bay Area/ Northern CA as far the fires. Because where I am in Southern CA, we tend to only get only superficial news from your area and I have friends & family who live in NorCal. Thanks for the news!

I am very happy to see the news from the Bay Area. The 30 year Earthquake documentary was very well produced. We’re in the Midwest now and I can see news from the place I called home for 35 years. Sometimes I still think I’m there.
