Seeing another reviewer get caught by surprise, I was cautious about trying Earkick. I was prompted to try Premium for free for a week, but I couldn’t find what the limits were without Premium. Usually apps will tell you exactly what the differences are between tiers, so it was odd to see that a team that emphasizes no ads and no surprises would be anything but transparent. Reading the Premium description include “unlimited chats” hinted that there would be a hard stop somewhere… Sure enough, it locked after one AI chat. Earkick—please just tell us that upfront, it’s the main feature of the app. Premium unlocks the chatting feature in its entirety—totally understandable! But looking online on your site and on Reddit, there’s a lot of emphasis on “free” that is misleading. As a side note, I tried the iPad version of the app initially and it was really buggy. Failed to generate a custom AI personality, nothing under soundscapes, the badges didn’t update, and the yellow undo button was stuck. (Didn’t actually know what that tab was until I tried the iPhone app.)

I liked a little bit of the app, my panda convincing me to get up and do chores. It's not so useful if you just want to get some things off your chest and gain perspective. The panda would keep recommending I find a therapist to talk with - isn't that this app's whole purpose? The streak function is also super obnoxious. I don't care if it's trendy - that doesn't make it a good feature for an app aimed at mental health. The last thing someone in a fragile state needs is to be badgered by a phone app to obey its schedule. I also didn't like that in browsing the meditations, one of the top ones is called "**** Anxiety." Expletives (even if just implied) really don't fit with this app that's trying to create a cute and comforting aesthetic. Overall, it's a cute idea but the execution isn't really there.

I really wanted to give this app a try, I’ve tried a lot of stuff and nothing seems to work for me. I really struggle with mental health and loving myself. I was really hopeful about this app until I went to get started and got hit with a paywall. I totally understand because you need to make money off it somehow, but I just can’t afford it being a college student and super broke. There was no way to get around the paywall, meaning I need to pay in order to even use the app and I just don’t have the money. I see some people saying it limits to one chat without premium but I’m not even getting the option to use for free just once. It really disappointed me considering I really need help and I need it now.
