TopRadio looked promising, but has some major faults. First, I can find no way of searching for specific radio stations. Any radio app that won’t let me search for Shirley and Spinoza is probably going to get deleted. This is a fundamental flaw in any radio app. Second, the category list seems overly fond of religious entries. Even if you search for ‘jazz’, you’ll get religious stations (and we all know jazz is the devil’s music!). And lastly, there seems to be lots of stations that are just unavailable: search for ‘NPR’ or ‘public radio’ and you’ll get precious few stations.

So the abundance of religious stations, the presence of Fox Radio high up in the ‘popular’ listing, and the scarcity of intelligent, eclectic, liberal channels all make me think that, just maybe, the developer of TopRadio has an agenda.

I was looking for a radio app that would be clean and simple UI. So I downloaded loaded TopRadio to compare it to one that I’m looking to ditch.

Well within minutes it wouldn’t allow me to store the 3rd radio station. Every time I tried to save the newly station TopRadio would crash.

Before that incident I was on the main/home screen and while my 2nd stored entry was playing I was tapping on a feature and TopRadio crashed.

While these crashes continued and I started TopRadio I would get a full screen advertisement. No big deal, however my stored station was playing in on the background at the same time. Wait it gets better. I tried to click on something and BAM crashed again.

Now through this whole process what was bothering me is I had click on the pause button so I can concentrate on the issues on hand and this thing just starts playing on its own and then again advertisement and again crashes.

I also it would be nice when you are adding new entries that you can some how have the caps automatically cap the first character.

I had found a few more issues. Not sure if anyone else has had the same issues as I did.

Hope it gets fixed as it has a nice and almost clean UI. TopRadio has potential. With all that said I wanted to give TopRadio 2 1/2 stars but thats not possible. Address the bugs and I’m happy to bring it up to possible 5 stars.

Can we please allow TopRadio to continue to stream when the phone screen turns off! Annoying when driving!

Nice try but most of the listed stations come up with an error message that the station is not available, try again later.

Navigation to search function not intuitive. Difficult to get back to previously listened stations. Good assortment of stations and diversity. Would like it to be better because the subscription to Tune In is a rip-off and am boycotting.

From the moment I turned on the station, already playing was one of my favorite songs.

TopRadio just exceeds expectations.
I created a list with my favorites radios and now it’s very easy to jump from a favorite station to another one even on the lock screen.
Very nice and easy to use, cool design, animations, intuitive flow. Everything excellent👌

I don't know how the developer managed to do it, but TopRadio really uses only 0.2% cpu when listening (don't ask me how I got the number)

Oh, and love the alarms to listen to my scheduled favorite broadcasts as well as able to switch stations from lock screen!

2-3 seconds from launch to getting audio, without lenghty prebuffering or audio ads < this is no longer the case, it’s slow to launch now (4 seconds cold start)

cons:

TopRadio needs a way to sync your favorites across the web and other devices, but that does not bother me enough to take out a star. what bothers me most instead is the long app name difficult to find in web search)

station reordering and airplay is premium? no way!

still no radio-browser dot info integration, after so many months of waiting... :-(

oh one more: got the wrong station! a station i used to listen is now a different one! that would not have happened if the dev integrated radio browser info db
