I play this game competitively for multiple hours daily exclusively on extreme mode and have for over a year on this app, so I would notice this if anyone would. After the recent update over the past few months or so, we have seen more ads than usual. This is bad enough, except that I have definitely noticed an uptick in my “accidental bomb activations” where I go to flag a bomb, and it detonates it instead. Once in a while this is to be expected, but the frequency that this has increased just does not “ad” up, pun intended. Every time this occurs, an ad appears. It KNOWS you want to use your coins to continue rather than starting a new game because you were wrongfully scammed into clicking the bomb and it is obviously frustrating to anyone this happens to. So they know you won’t just quit the app, open it again and start a new game to avoid viewing the ad. You wouldn’t be able to continue with coins if you did that.

I was wondering if the maps always ensured that there was a logical a way to progress by being certain of what is and isn’t a bomb, and if it would notify you if you reached a point in the map where there was no possible logical figuring that could be done (using the numbers touching the mines.) I kept on getting stuck and it was very frustrating- I just assumed that I wasn’t able to find the deductions to determine the bomb placement. I just cleared a board down to two squares in the corner. According to the layout of the board, the bomb could be in either square. Proves that the game will not alert you of a lack of information available to solve. Bad game design; I had been feeling stupid for being unable to determine mine placement in previous maps after getting stuck- it’s likely that there were just no logical steps left to take.

The controls are my favorite thing about this whole port. You can zoom in and place flags very easily, and there’s so much customization! Seriously, it’s so customizable it’s a problem I have with the game. You open the options and scroll down, scroll down, scroll down…. If the menu was a bit more organized it would be a lot easier to get around. Another important thing is the ads are not very intrusive. You’ll only ever get an ad at the end of a game (win or lose), but sometimes you won’t even get an ad, so you likely won’t get an ad for losing a 10 second game. My only minor gripe is that the ads start immediately after you win or lose—like, you won’t even be able to see the game-over/win menu, but they aren’t much of an issue besides that. I would give this app an 8/10. If you want to play Minesweeper on mobile, this is a must-play.
