Will not load light pollution layer, minimizes app into background mode

My Astrophotography instructor from a local College recommended LightPollutionMap. Very disappointed, it is unusable. Allowed it to use my location while open, selected light pollution map from list, the satellite view displayed. Only 30% of the light pollution overlay manages to load from the left side of iPad Pro display, then instantly LightPollutionMap closes! Double click my home button, and I see LightPollutionMap in LightPollutionMap Switcher. There are no updates in LightPollutionMap Store.

No Bortle rating

I figured for a light pollution map there would be a bortle rating of areas.......no. I deleted it after five minutes of playing with it.

Useless trash app

I don't usually leave a comment nor give stars for apps but LightPollutionMap made me to.
Such a useless app. You can not get any info out of this one. Don't waste your data or time to download this.

Rip-off App with Limited Usefulness

I was willing to give LightPollutionMap a try. The free version was pretty limited so I saw in the description the upgrade to the pro-version was listed as follows:

Pro version can be purchased in-app for $1.99.

The first upgrade dialog showed it was going to be $1.99. Another dialog popped up with the upgrade charge of $9.99. I hit cancel and it showed it had been cancelled. However, my iTunes account has been charged $9.99.

LightPollutionMap is not worth $10. You have been warned. Do not download LightPollutionMap. Learn from my mistake.

Free version pretty useless

Tried the free version. Didn’t do much. What it did do seemed very slow. Didn’t give much incentive to lay out 10 bucks for the “pro” version. Deleted.

Pretty much useless unless you upgrade

No data available at any zoom level I tried. Why don't they just sell it for $1.99 and skip the upgrade. Waste of time.

4.3.5 version map zoom issue

With recent update to 4.3.5 I notice when zooming on iPad that map resets to original full USA view (starting point) after a few seconds automatically rather than holding at zoomed view. Using icon to go my location (drilled down view) gets same result. So you can’t get to detailed view of LPM to look at sites. What’s the point of the LPM now?

Too Cluttered

Have LightPollutionMap on my iPad Air and Pro and am happy with. Will be upgrading. Added to my iPhone. There is so much junk on the screen you can hardly see the map. I have an SE. Apparently the developers think everyone has the bigger screen phones.

A busy disappointed

For the pro price, I’m disappointed. The location manager part of LightPollutionMap just crashes when trying to use as does the aurora. There are issues with zoom resetting when weather overlay is on and it is telling when the darkness here ends in the middle of the day. Also, the calendar appears to have nothing in it.

Seems like pro could be useful, but be wary of bait and switch

Can't zoom past state level without upgrading, app says 1.99 but then it tries to charge 9.99 with iTunes. I'd buy it for 1.99, but not with the last second change to ten bucks

Light pollution not updating

Updated to pro for $1.99, keeps telling me I need to update to access features. When I try to update again it tells me I already updated. Help!

Unable to search

LightPollutionMap is great. However, for some reason I cannot type in a location. It keeps saying unable to search try again. I have internet connection and all.

After a response from the developer

Update: I actually received an update from the developer with hopes of lots of new features including zoom for the free version. I can definitely get behind that. Looking forward to seeing the full potential of LightPollutionMap !

Useless for zooming in for any sort of detail outside of an entire state view unless you upgrade to pro...

Great app!

Very helpful when planning a vacation.

Map is in error over southwestern Lake Michigan.

IMPORTANT***** NOTE TO CREATORS OF LightPollutionMap ***** The map around Lake Michigan is in GREAT ERROR. The cities have to be relabeled with their true location. THe edge of Lake Michigan is not accurately labeled. The extreme pollution over Chicago is shown west of Chicago. ***** NOTE TO CREATORS OF LightPollutionMap ***** notify me when this is adjusted. This is a huge error.

****WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SKEWED LAKE MICHIGAN CHICAGO LABELING I LOVE LightPollutionMap ***** LightPollutionMap is incredible. I'm relocating to Arizona and using this map to choose a location under the darkest skies. The upgrade is the best $9.99 I ever spent on an app. Well worth it.

Wow

Highly recommend! A must get for star gazers!

A must have

Star gazing is one of my fav past times! I love LightPollutionMap! Great idea!

Great app!

Definitely helps you find the dark places. Hooray star gazing 👍🏾

Great app

Easy to use and user friendly. Love that you can see the light pollution and its effect in star viewing

Useful tool for photographers

This is a perfect app for photographers who want to shoot long exposure shots. This tool helps find places that are not over populated with light. You'll find the best places to get the perfect galaxy photos.
