I used to love Rehearsal, but it has gotten continuously more glitchy, to the point where I have finally given up on its usability.

My most recent problem is that the scrolling feature that used to work so well doesn’t line up anymore with the lines I’m working on.

Previous issues I’ve encountered (and learned to live with): Rehearsal will sometimes freeze while I’m recording lines, leaving either a pregnant, unwanted pause, or a complete app crash halfway through a long recording session.

If something happens on my phone midway through a recording (a phone call or text), Rehearsal would crash and I’d have to start over. Airplane mode is your friend here.

Rehearsal for some reason will not connect to my car’s Bluetooth or USB. It worked fine in my previous vehicle, but it’s not universal.

In short, this was a great app 5 years ago. Unfortunately, it isn’t maintained well enough to keep up with technology changes. I’m looking for an alternative.

It’s really just soooo buggy. I’ve been dealing with its issues for a long time. Now there’s apparently an update that has maybe worked maybe not? It keeps asking me to update again and again. Meanwhile it just deleted all my recorded scenes for the last several weeks including the one I needed to work on for today. I don’t really have time to record the scene again nor do I have time to go back and forth emailing support. It’s really unfortunate how much hassle Rehearsal has been over the years. Good concept. Bad execution.

I’ve had these app for a couple of years. My phone is always updated properly and in the past few months are freezes regularly and for the last couple of days it won’t even open any files?!

I tried to register from 2 separate emails and keep getting a message that my login doesn’t work. I’ve heard so many great things about Rehearsal, and now that I finally decided to spend the $20 to buy it, it’s not even working. Would love help from the developer so I can actually use it...Disappointed 😒

Has a lot of nice features but even the pen and eraser are glitchy. Eraser wont erase everything. Also I can’t open any scripts if I’m offline which is HUGE. Definitely definitely should have an offline mode. Found out about scriptation app after I paid for Rehearsal. Regretting buying it since scriptation has everything Rehearsal doesn’t. Save your money and download Scriptation

Great app in theory, but often doesn’t work to full capacity. Seems a bit deceitful to make the scanning process for adding scripts to be a camera icon, only to inform you upon clicking on it that you need to download an Adobe app to actually scan the script now. But I did that. Problem is, once you’ve completed the scanning process and followed all the steps provided, it’s still 50/50 whether the “Import to this app Pro” option will show up on your menu bar. And that’s important, because if you try to send the PDF to this app Pro when it doesn’t explicitly say “Import to Rehearse Pro,” it doesn’t work whatsoever. So I tried another method that’s suggested of using the email created when I made an account for the purpose of adding a script. The script after several minutes does show up in Rehearsal , but when I try to add it, despite re-emailing it several times, I still get the error message “Error writing file.” I like Rehearsal when it works, but right now charging $20 for...this...is simply insulting. I want Rehearsal to succeed really badly, because it’s a useful tool. But quite frankly it’s just a headache right now

Always getting an ‘error start recording’ message now when I try to record new lines. This is a useful app but can’t tell if anyone’s home here anymore. The scan to PDF function is useless and so is the ‘find a reader’ section which they should just delete.

I love Rehearsal, the only thing is that my Apple Pencil lags when I’m trying to take notes. I don’t have this issue when using any other app and my pencil. Kind of stinks because I try to go paperless for auditions and such but it’s such a bad lag it’s hard for me to make up my script like I’d like. Otherwise great app.

I use Rehearsal all the time, but after the last few apple updates it has stopped working completely on my iPhone, with no app updates available online. Help!!

I love Rehearsal. It literally helped land me what has now turned into a recurring character on a popular soap opera. I know there are still some glitches that need to be fixed - and I'm sure David and his team are addressing those - but if you can get it to load, have a little patience setting up the scenes and recording the lines, it's an audition and performance game-changer in the industry.

My recommendations:

1. Auto load and crop all pages of the script once an email of the script has been received. Then it's just up to the user to delete any unwanted pages or reorder them.

2. Enhance the AI to detect silence after the actor finishes their line to begin the pre-recorded other character's lines (I know, this one might be impossible).

3. Make a social aspect of Rehearsal...asking any available other user to record the other lines so it's not your own voice talking back to you. Or, if there's a way to have a Siri/Alexa like AI read the lines, that would be cool too.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. Thanks for this amazing App, David!

I have had Rehearsal for like 10 years now. It is by far the best one out there and is a must for all actors. I have used it for auditions, tv/film and stage. It has literally saved me when I’ve had multiple projects going. It offers multiple ways to learn lines and organize scripts. I have no idea why any professional would give Rehearsal a bad review. If I could give it 10 stars I would.

I've been using this app Pro almost daily since it was released and it is invaluable!! Plus, the support is excellent. I can't imagine any working actor not using this app Pro.
UPDATE: Still my daily go-to app. Yes, there have been glitches over the years, but I have ALWAYS gotten a quick response to my concerns when I write and they are always resolved in the next update. I am still a huge fan.

I’m in a community theater play and have a short time to learn a lot of lines, cues, etc. Very glad I found this app Pro. I’ve had no problems using it because the video and text instructions make it easy. Plus, the setup helps me learn my part as well. We’ve only had four rehearsals and I’m almost off book for Act 1, Scene 1 which has lots of dialog and movement. By the way, I’m in my early 70’s and had concerns that I’d have difficulty memorizing. I believe I have been using this tool for AT LEAST 10 YEARS! Of course my memory may be off a tad ALL THE MORE REASON WHY THIS HAS BECOME MY GO TO! I cant say enough about the value. Yes, there were bugs early on but EVERYTIME I expressed an issue the team IMMEDIATELY responded and provided help. I am shocked everyone (especially in the biz) isn’t using it!

I have used this app Pro for years now and can’t imagine my life without it! I had no idea I would use it as often as I do. I have always been “old school” by using paper and highlighter … and sneaking a peek while I’m driving! The this app Pro is a game changer. Over the years, I have walked hundreds of miles with my earbuds in listening to lines and responding aloud. People just think I’m talking on the phone! I also use it in the car on long drives or just around town. David‘s videos on how to set up Rehearsal are very useful. The turnaround time for Rehearsal to receive my script and it be available for this app is phenomenal. It has never disappointed. I recommend Rehearsal to everyone in the industry!!

I’ve used this app Pro exclusively for my entire career and don’t really see any reason to use anything else… I’ve never had any issue with Rehearsal and I’m sure I’m not even using it to it’s full potential. :-)

This is a must have app for any professional actor. It will assist in the learning process and is easy to use. I’ve been using Rehearsal for years and depend on it immensely for the quick audition turn arounds and work.

Awesome app! I’ve used this app for years, for auditions and for memorizing lines for a show. I can’t remember the last time I prepped a scene or an episode without it. Easy to use, and super intuitive. Highly recommend.

Nothing in this world is perfect, nada, zip, zero. And having a coffee stained, dog eared and likely missing script is one of those imperfections. Rehearsal is not perfect, so why five stars? Because it strives to be the perfect solution for managing scripts and it keeps improving and David H. Lawrence XVII is accessible and responsive.... on a Friday night! I appreciate having Rehearsal to manage multiple scripts, and multiple versions of the same script. It just works. And when it doesn’t, they fix it, or fix you, as it’s likely user error anyway. This is the best thing going for the dedicated amateur and I suspect for the seasoned pro alike.

I have been using Rehearsal for auditions for a few years now. Its the only one that is easy to navigate, highlight, record and download the scripts. Record , and just let it play over and over and you’ll be off book in a day! I have a recurring role on Showtime’s Billions and Mr. robot and I have to give some credit to this app Pro. Jerry D.
