Poor value, buggy app, worse support

I rarely write reviews, especially in such a negative light, but I’m hoping this will actually reach the support team. I’m honestly a bit shocked to see so many positive reviews. I initially purchased Py to continue with their python path, which I admittedly enjoyed. However for a somewhat steep price for a mobile app, the value return very quickly proved to lower than I expected, with the courses quickly ending before any deeper subject matter was reached. Now this certainly does not merit a 1 Star review. What does merit such vitriol is the fact that the assets in the data science path simply do not load. No graphs or images, nothing that will allow me to progress in the lesson or indeed use Py at all. Even this is somewhat understandable, things break, I was waiting for a fix while I notified the support team. What has really disappointed and indeed angered me is the complete lack of concern from support itself. After multiple emails asking for help and pointing out the broken features with some screenshots, I’ve yet to receive even an acknowledgement of the problem. A complete waste of money, completely unreasonable treatment. Shame on them.

Great but

I've only done two of the courses so far (unity and html). I'll start with the html course since that material was pretty new for me. It mostly was great. The lessons went in a good order, had tons of examples, and asked the right questions, until I got to the last two lessons. It seems almost unfinished, the last lesson doesn't even implement the drag and drop coding you use throughout the rest of the lesson. As for Unity, I've spent a lot of time working in unity and was curious how Py taught it. The lessons were great if you were sitting with a computer but kind of vague and confusing otherwise. Also, the setup and layout lessons are the last two lessons when they should probably be the first two.
Overall great product and the python course is probably more fleshed out given it's a 10 hour course vs just 2.5 that these were. It seems like these courses just weren't quite finished or properly tested in full.

There are a lot of problems.

As an example, the swift lessons have started over for me—currently at 3% completion with 39 out of 90 stars (earn 3 stars per lesson). I was previously at 40+% on swift. I closed Py today, opened it again, and suddenly I don’t have any progress in python either (I previously completed both python and advanced python in their entirety). I started using Py after a great first impression, and even paid for the subscription—that also needs to be fixed. Py store listing for in-app purchases shows options for different subscription options (e.g. $9.99 for 3 months), and in app subscriptions are advertised as being $3.33 a month. However, every time I’ve gone to purchase a subscription, the only available option is a full year subscription. That needs to be fixed—
It seems like the developers prioritized form over function here. Please fix this. The lessons are mostly good. But the foundation is shaky. but

Brilliant Layout & information

I’ve been a web developer for approximately two years now. Py was recommended from a friend. I simply love the layout and how simple it is to use. Py walks you through beginner steps (as a refresher) up to python for building apps, websites, and servers. Jump in sign up, you’ll need your email address. So I’d say just create a new one or a spam one for all the overwhelming notifications or emails that may arise! Other than that one of the greatest learning apps on the apple market!

Premium too expensive!

I love Py , it lets me practice my skills from literally anywhere (no need for a computer). If the premium were half it’s price I would definitely pay for it, but $39/year is a lot for an app I use 5 minutes a day. Even if I use it every single day of the year, I would be paying 46 cents a minute. That’s way too overpriced considering the free software available online. I love Py altogether, and it’s incredibly helpful!

Easy and simple but needs some improvement

I couldn't even hit the feedback button, did not load anything

Should really interagate a back button on lessons, it's hard to understand some content at times and it would be nice to go back on a pages. Maybe there is a back button that I'm unaware of? Should also add some sort of collaboration with others on some sort of projects would be interesting, other than that i really enjoy Py and it's options of lesson. Very easy to use which is nice. Keep it up.

Great App but...

My overall experience with Py has been amazing, except for the fact that I have to pay to finish two of the most important courses (to me). I know it’s only like $1.69 a month, but I would love if the rest of the courses were free. This is made up for though, because there are no ads. Great app overall, and i plan to continue using it!

Still in development

Existing lessons are good, but app needs more fine tuning and content. Submitted errors to developers in grammar and answer feedback. Attempted to access a few modules in trial mode but no content despite module being listed and described, including Advanced Python and SQL modules (among many others). Also, Python Interview module was marked as beginner but content did not contain information that I had learned in Intro Python module (which I fully completed). Forced me to guess answers with no real explanation for further learning so felt like a waste of a module as a beginner. App could be great in the future but still has a long way to go in development.

Game stopping bug

In the advanced python tutorial on classes, the question on Titanic Movie class with an add_awards function, the response is broken and will not let me progress past the question OR submit feedback. I just paid for a year subscription and find this game stopping bug to be very disappointing.

There are many other small bugs where questions do not fully load, but at least with those ones I can restart Py and it is usually fixed.

Overall disappointed with the most expensive app subscription I’ve ever purchased on iOS.

Deal breaking bugs ruin the UX

Py has a lot of potential. There are also a lot of small details that the devs have put attention in, like some animations, badges, etc. But I have some recommendations for them:

1. Fix the UI bugs for the fill in the blank questions. A lot of people, myself included, either have trouble or are completely unable to get the draggable blocks to fill in the spaces. For example, I’m currently unable to make any progress on the API’s course.

2. Rethink your font/icon size design. There’s a lot of text that’s too small, and some that are too big. The relative proportions are kind of off and it hurts the user experience. I think a lot of text in the nav bar and in the profile tab are way too small. I feel like I’m squinting sometimes, and I’m a 20 smth year old.

3. There are some other bugs with counting of stars and exp. But that’s not as much of deal breaker.

Thanks. Wish the best of luck to you guys!

Duolingo style education

I really enjoy Py & believe that it will thoroughly help me get out a job search rut by enabling me to teach myself various beginner level programming skills.

I only have one complaint, there's no sound. I really enjoy Duolingo because it is engaging & rewards me with points & sounds. this app is crisp & effective, but when I'm trying to do 10+ minutes of lessens at 10:00pm, the deafening silence makes it really difficult to stay awake. Please add clicks & dings at least.

Great App

This was exactly what I was looking for. Only problem is that at times with the newer content the text can be a little small and hard to read. Second when you complete the course you don’t always get credit that you did so. I’ve a few badges that say I didn’t complete something but when you look at the completed courses it was. Both just small things. Other than that a great app.

Could’ve been great

Minor bugs make the interface glitch. Reported a couple of issues to devs 4 weeks ago but no response: not even an acknowledgement.

The lessons plateaued at a pretty basic level. No discussion of algorithms other than a cursory look at recursion. No discussion of breaking problems down to solve them logically. In fact not even any lessons on the basics of comp sci eg memory, bytes, etc.

I would’ve have been happy to give this 4 stars, and write off the relatively minor bugs but a total lack of response from the devs combined with the extremely shallow material made me cancel my subscription and delete Py .

Love it, but buggy UI

I’m using Py to refresh on some basics and am loving it so far. I have had several issues with the UI though, especially on fill in the blank questions. I’m almost finished with a lesson, but can’t go any further because the UI isn’t recognizing me dragging the input into a field. Bummer. Could be something to do with the new iOS 11.1 though. My interface has been screwing up in general since the update.

Really great app for learning

The swift track is really good it’s not just one course it is more. Swift, interfaces and UI, advanced swift and Rest APIs. Py is great for when you can’t do video tutorials or you already done them, this is great to stay on track and keep learning on the go. I have tried like 4 other apps for learning and this one beats them all plus it’s mainly free!
