While the main portion of AdBlocker blocks some ads, there are some that get through. Using the plus portion of AdBlocker raises far to many privacy concerns however. The use of the their DNS does not discuss data logging via the server connection. So while the developer claims privacy is in place there’s simply no proof of that when it comes to the subscription based side of things. And asking about it leaves a lot to be desired as you’ll get no real response just a candid “it works like nextdns” which is simply not the case. AdBlocker is super light weight, which is a major plus, and works faster than most Adblockers on the market. It’s the privacy concerns via their “plus” portion that leaves far to many questions to continue to use their application as a daily driver unfortunately.
Application updated, still has privacy issues with the “plus” portion. Still do not recommend using this application. The developer clearly collects data via the paid portion of the application. Their DNS settings are not secure.
Does not work
All of a sudden, it has stopped updating my lists.
This extension was the best for a while for me, but it no longer does what it’s intended to do, I have no idea how or why, but the ads are back
I tried the free app but the guard one works better. So I did not upgrade.
I tried AdBlocker and it’s great that it’s open source and it does work. However, in my experience (on an iPhone 12 Pro Max), even with some (not all) filter lists turned on and enabled in Safari, browsing the web slowed down noticeably. This has not been the case with another open source as blocker available on AdBlocker Store, which leads me to believe it is specific to Bolt. Ostensibly, Bolt is pretty heavy on the CPU, which slows down page loading. Would be great if this was improved, as otherwise this is a great app.
I used to use Bolt a lot! Now, it takes forever to load up lists when launched and it can’t block all domain names. For instance, I wanted to block a .quest domain and it won’t let me. So, pop ups from that domain exist.
I’d like to be able to blacklist anything I choose. Not what Bolt wants me to choose.
Works well only iPhone, but has no effect on the FB ads on my iPad. IOS 15, iPad 7th gen.
Is Bolt coming to Android?
UPDATED: I am changing this review to five stars only because I don't want to hurt the indie developer, but I did not know any other way to get the developer's attention. It's too bad the developer hasn't thought to allow a feedback form directly to his email within AdBlocker . Even if a device is new or old, it should still work. I definitely allowed plenty of time for the filters to update. In fact, it stated there were no updates for the filters when I attempted to update them! So, enabling and enabling the filters on a website, restarting the device, closing Safari and reopening it, signing out of the website and signing back in, and many other things were tried and none of these things worked. The only thing that worked was deleting Bolt entirely and forcing it to update its filters. That finally fixed the issue with the ads on the website. They were once again hidden. This issue DOES need to be looked at more closely by the developer.
UPDATED REVIEW: Unfortunately, if I manually disable bolt within Safari and then reenable it, the filters do not reenable. Ads were not blocked until I completely deleted Bolt and reinstalled it. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Almost perfect Almost perfect, but it allows interstitial ads on "can you block it" website test. One problem: there is something that happens sometimes where I cannot get it to enable itself. For example I will have content blockers on and Bolt enabled on a website and yet the ads are still showing. I do not have ads showing in my Apple settings.
Does what it’s supposed to do well made and worth the price
Love AdBlocker , ease of use and and of course the features! Thank you for the updates!! 5 stars!!!
No more annoying popups on websites thanks to AdBlocker💜
AdBlocker is easy to use and blocks ads seamlessly. It’s a must-have for any Safari user
AdBlocker keeps ads away, it's free, and the developer is honest.
Facebook, for example, will be much slower in loading. However, that is because the platform forces its intrusive, information collecting devices onto you, which Bolt prevents from accessing our computers. At least, from what I can tell.
If you have issues with accessing a trustworthy website, simply add the site to the Whitelist on the Bolt application, and you should be able to access the site without a problem!!
Highly recommended!
I am always skeptical about ad blockers because a lot don’t work. I like how you don’t seem to be part of a team or corporation. This ad blocker works like it’s developed to and I like how it’s simplistic and almost “underdeveloped”. Makes me trust that you work on the things that matter and not to make AdBlocker pretty. Thanks.
I tested this blocker and it always succeeded above 90 and 100 percent in blocking trackers and ads and is actually trustworthy it exceeded other blockers like a popular one ad guard only blocks 20 percent of trackers and Adblock only blocking 17 percent, i would love to see an this app menu tho like a similar one to 1blocker (which blocker 56% of trackers and ads)
This is one the only adblockers outthere that respects your privacy. Start reading the data collected from the other ones and you will notice.
Could not be simpler to use, and the blocking is terrific. Big fan of AdBlocker and I use it on all my devices. Would love to see an Apple TV version of AdBlocker with Bolt .
