Customizable and personalized workouts utilizing your input on what equipment you have, how much time you want to work out , and which days of the week you want to work out. Adapts by having you rate the difficulty of each exercise. These are all great, and could make this the absolute best workout app.
The presentation is terrible though. When you are given an exercise, the app shows a picture, the name of the exercise and how many reps to do. If you want more info on how to do the exercise, you slide over to a different screen where you can see written directions and a small, extremely short and minimalistic gif. And if you stay on this screen while exercising, your phone will go to the lock screen. Very frustrating. This would be much better if it were like Nike Training Club with great videos and audio instructions while you exercise. Having to go to another screen for instructions is really unnecessary and slows down one’s workout.
I also had the issue that the app would read info from my sleep tracker, saying that because I slept badly my workout would be short that day. My sleep tracker messed up, I slept fine, but I couldn’t override BodBot’s judgment. Very frustrating, better to not let BodBot access sleep data.
Lastly, if an exercise is too hard and you can’t complete it, you can tell it that and it gives you an easier one in the same vein to do right away. Which you also can’t do now because you exhausted yourself trying to do the other one. It should rather end that exercise and make it easier next time. As is, it’s infuriating.
The amount of interaction that the app needs during the workout does damage the experience. I imagine with an Apple Watch it’s better, but having voice commands could really help here.
Overall great idea but presentation and interaction need great improvements to make this an excellent app worth it’s cost.
