Paying 10.99€ a month for a wallpaper app is crazy , u tell me a netflix subscription and wallpaper app are equal ? I can’t even unlock hd resolution after watching 2 ads while other apps offer the same service and unlock hd after watching only 1 ad at most. Come on please

Lots of cookies that want to track you; and no free wallpapers - can download only SD version after watching 2 30s ads. Uninstalled.

I can’t get this app to work. Everytime I try to open it it just goes to a black screen and closes itself after 2 seconds.

I tried rebooting my phone and reinstalling the app but in vain.

I use an iPhone 12 on iOS 18.

Coming from such wealthy individuals I cannot comprehend how everything is so expansive. Yes you have a free tiers, but there are a ton of ads and the best one are behind paywall.

I have been using Backdrops for the last 2 years and it costs 4€ for lifetime access with curated wallpaper.

To be fair a lot of images are just “ok”.

This app asks you to allow so many (over 200!!!) vendors to access and resells you personal data, this should be plain illegal in 2024. And having to deselect each category in a submenu rather than having a quick « reject all » button is a bad dark pattern in this day and age. I expected much better from Marques and his team.

I should also not be pushed to create an account (and provide more personal data) from the get-go just to see some wallpapers. This should only be required if I buy something, if ever.

BTW the video on the front page automatically goes through Airplay, making the app look weird and taking over whatever’s already playing on my TV.

I didn’t try the paid version but for the free one, having to watch 2 ads to download an SD wallpaper without even knowing how it will look like, it’s a no for me. If you let me preview the wallpapers as they will appear on my screen, and I only have to watch the ads once I decided it was the good one, ok, but not as it is !

One star goes for respecting artists' and photographers' content. The second star goes to the designers and developers for the beautiful app.

The missing stars are for: an overpriced subscription imho, a tedious process to disable sharing personal data with vendors (having to go through multiple options individually during the app's first launch), and the lack of a creator profile feature that would allow artists and enthusiasts to share their content. A reward system for those creators would also be a nice addition.

As a big fan of MKBHD for a long time, I’m a bit disappointed, but I trust that he listens to his users—unlike some companies ;) Okay, I stole that joke from him, but you get the point!

By the way, I’m a developer and open to work if you need any help.
