Python 2. 0 was released on 16 October 2000, with many major new features including a full garbage collector and support for Unicode.  Python's syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than would be possible in languages such as C, and the language provides constructs intended to enable clear programs on both a small and large scale.  Python is a general-purpose, high-level programming language whose design philosophy emphasizes code readability.  With this release the development process was changed and became more transparent and community-backed.
