After using the app in Jan. 2020 to read a magazine, I was quite surprised and disapointed by the extremely poor user experience, especially considering the several redesigns of the app and the fact that Forbes is a professional media company that has existed for decades and should know better. This renders the app almost useless.
The text layout (article) is the number one issue. When reading an article of the magazine, the app offers two options: text (which is the default), and PDF, which is a copy of the print magazine. Unfortunately, none of these work. In the default option, the text looks like a raw text without any formatting. The font itself is neither enjoyable nor professional. The reader cannot change the font, its size, or the background color. Reading thus becomes an excruciating, totally unpleasant experience. The PDF option is unusable, given the super small text size (on a "large" iPhone 6s Plus). Even of an iPad, which has a much bigger screen than an iPhone Plus, the text remains too small. This is to be expected since the layout / font / font size etc. have been designed for the print magazine, which is much bigger.
It is quite dispointing that the app, to be used to read, does not offer a proper reading experience. Why not just copy (for example) Apple Books app, or even the Forbes web site? At the end of the day, I read articles on a web browser, which is inifinetly more enjoyable and seemless.
The rest of the user interface is also mediocre. There is for example no "continue reading" function, meaning almost each and everytime I go to the app, I have to find the issue I was reading, then the article, then the precise location where I was. What a pain and waste of time and energy.
The number of available issues is not listed. Scrolling through issues takes a lot of time (the user has to skip them almost one by one).
What about searching articles with specific titles, words or topics? This is basic funtionality that should of course exist.
This app needs to be fully re-written and its approach totally changed to have a product worthy of a professional magazine that has existed for so long.
