I’m learning Japanese with this app for five months now and it’s really well structured. The combination of audio lessons, grammar and vocabulary lessons, writing lessons and survival kits for bundles of vocabulary interleaved with each other keeps me motivated.
It’s easy to keep up with learning when you can, for instance repeat an audio lesson on the daily commute on the bicycle, repeat flash cards on public transport and use the other learning methods during focus time.
I also love that vocabulary is re-taught every once in a while in later lessons. In case you forgot a few words or phrases, you’re likely to see it again in a future lesson.
There is, however, one thing that reduces motivation by a lot: grammar and vocabulary lessons have lots of vocabulary in one big group. Reinforcement learning 80 words/phrases is quite difficult. I suggest to either group these into smaller chunks (of 15 - 20 per group) in the same lesson or allow the user to group the vocabulary themselves. It’s difficult to learn by repeating 80 phrases but it’s easy to learn by repeating just 20 at a time. I think this should be on the easier side to implement.
Writing lessons are good at the beginning to learn the foreign characters. I’m, however, missing some suggestions to practice writing. I can always check out other resources for it, but these are usually not matching my level. It’s an area where Rocket could improve, even though writing not the primary focus.
Altogether, I love learning with Rocket Languages and can absolutely recommend. 👍🏻
