About TransLoc Rider

This app leverages an Apple service called the "significant location change service", which runs in the background and collects data only when your device has traveled 500 meters and five minutes have passed.

TransLoc Rider provides real-time transit tracking, arrival predictions and proximity alerts.

• New multi-modal trip plan update incorporates stop, route and schedule information when passengers use multiple modes of transportation (e.g. Uber and mass transit).

The benefit to transit riders is assisting transit agencies in positioning routes and stops as well as dispatching vehicles with optimal frequency.

If you’ve ever stood in the rain wondering where your bus or train is, TransLoc Rider is the app for you.

*Limited to participating transit agencies.

TransLoc has raised the bar with this wholly reimagined transit-tracking app.

This results in a tiny processing impact to your device.

Extremely inconsistent

TransLocRider rarely ever works correctly. It will sometimes say that a bus is 10 minutes away while using WiFi but when u get to the bus stop and use data, TransLocRider says the bus will arrive in 40 minutes!! I’ve used TransLocRider for about 5 years now and it has been inconsistent all the time. Sometimes it will say that the next bus will arrive in 40 minutes but actually a bus will arrive in 5 minutes that isn’t even being tracked by TransLocRider . I can easily tell that the developers haven’t taken any time to improve TransLocRider . Extremely stupid and annoying. I’ve been late to classes multiple times due to TransLocRider. Definitely a 1 star rating. If there was a different app that tracked the buses I would use that.

Edit: I’ve been using TransLocRider since 2015 and it has not been updated once. I mean how do you not update an app atleast once in 5 years? These developers are complete bums that do nothing.

HORRIBLE

TransLocRider is horrible. I hate to leave a bad review because it is a good thing you’re trying to do with it but TransLocRider is so ridiculously inaccurate I don’t know what to say. One minute the bus is 3 minutes away, the next it’s 38. One minute the bus is 40 mins away, the next it’s 4 minutes. I get alerts saying the bus is 5 minutes away only to find myself waiting at the bus stop for 30 minutes because again TransLocRider was WRONG... oh and now I’ve missed class! Thanks for that!

TransLocRider is great in theory but until you fix the bugs TransLocRider is not only not helpful, but hurting people. You’re getting people to rely on TransLocRider by saying you’re a bus timer when I swear TransLocRider only works about 50 percent of the time. Please fix the bugs, until then I’m deleting this and do not recommend anybody else download it.

Best app for public transpo but sometimes off

Sometimes when I hit notify me when 5 min away it won’t , but I know the bus times near me so I knew it was coming idk if it was bc the route just started or bc the bus driver takes a break and u can see the bus sitting there idle then boom u look again and it’s almost at ur stop [ I live near a mall where route begins ] also upcoming is sometimes inaccurate u gotta keep watching it to know or look up the times and only check how far it is basically. Once they fix those things it will be unstoppable but overall is a great help

Can be occasionally inaccurate

I’ve used TransLocRider for the better part of a year now in the Tallahassee area as an FSU student, and TransLocRider gives and takes. I’m not sure if it’s because of our buses themselves or TransLocRider , but a lot of times the system says the location is “Not Available” even when the Star Metro buses aren’t on that route. Overall though when it is on its game TransLocRider is very good and the user interface is pretty easy. One feature I would absolutely LOVE though is the ability to plan a route so that you can tell which bus would be the best to take to your desired location. Other than that not bad, but if I could accurately rate it I would say it’s 3.5 stars.

Great Start Could Be Better

I downloaded TransLocRider after my son and I became daily commuters to the Bus. I drop him off at daycare in the mornings and pick him up and also ride throughout the day to job search.. Some of the bus lines are off or if you aren’t standing at a particular bus stop it won’t tell you that it’s coming. But since I ride the same routes everyday I have learned to navigate through TransLocRider .. Definitely easier than calling the phone line every time I leave from somewhere

Good in concept poor in execution

5 minutes away for a bus either means 15 minutes away or the bus passed 5 minutes ago. The timing estimations are atrocious and for an app that's supposed to make getting from place to place in a timely fashion easier that flaw must be fixed immediately. The only thing TransLocRider is good for is if you're already on a bus and want to know where the next stop is so you can get off and walk to where you're going instead. At least if you are walking there is no one to blame but you. I wish that I could rate TransLocRider less than one star. Just today I had a bus that was “approaching the stop” for almost twenty minutes, fix TransLocRider please. So many of us rely on it being consistent.

About time

Thank you for accurate transit tracking that we have waited decades for. Good direction. Few improvements would be jumping to closest stop is not always correct and some buses that are clearly off schedule but show as on time. Not sure if the eta is based on schedule or bus tracking or both. A few improvements in eta accuracy would help as it tends to overestimate the time a little. Might need traffic calibration perhaps!

Almost perfect

TransLocRider is great. Very helpful. Makes using transit very easy and effective. The only issue I have is that the only options for location determination are "always" or "never." It would be better if it were possible to turn off the location features as soon as TransLocRider was closed, rather than having to switch to settings and click through a number of screens in order to turn off the location services. Other than that, it is really great!

Pretty great app with minor flaws.

TransLocRider tracks the buses in my city in real time and always allows me to leave my apartment exactly when I need to to catch the bus without standing in the cold for 25 minutes. Occasionally the buses will get frozen or report not expecting to arrive for 30 minutes and then just randomly pop back on the map and say they will be there in 5 minutes. Those times are pretty inconvenient but it is rare enough and is usually corrected in time that I can still catch the bus.

Most necessary app

I used TransLocRider several years ago and it worked just okay, however I recently started using it again and the updates to TransLocRider have made it perfect! The estimated times are pretty accurate and you can wait inside somewhere close knowing that TransLocRider will tell you when your bus is arriving. Highly recommend!

Fantastic app

Have been using for about 2 years. I really like TransLocRider so far. The feature I like the most is the notifications when your bus is arriving even though is beta still. Sometimes the buses live location don’t update but for the most part accurate.

One small problem

TransLocRider works great and I use it to get to class every day! Although there is one problem I have with it. In my location services there are only the options for Rider to use my location "always" or "never". Having location services on 100% of the time drains my battery and is unnecessary, but trying to use TransLocRider without location on is bothersome. Please fix this!

Just Add Lag Time

Generally an effective app. I assume the bus is closer than the marker appears, which cuts down on me watching the bus go by. There are ghost buses (no transponder), so I still have to use the published schedule. This is a great app for delays, I can see all the piled up buses. The time to arrival information is confusing, I can’t tell which direction it’s referring to, and sometimes I can’t get the route I want to appear.

marie

I used TransLocRider as an FSU student and since the buses were my only choice for transportation I relied on it heavily. It works some times but its very glitchy, sometimes saying a bus that was 5 minutes away is now suddenly gone and the next one isn't for another 20 minutes. Then I look out my window and that bus is there and I’ve now missed it because TransLocRider told me it had passed already. It definitely needs work.

Accurate and handy

Using this along with my uni’s bus app. Gives real-time updates, showing routes and buses on a handy map. Rather than just knowing how many minutes a way a bus is, one can see where exactly the bus is and where its going. Anyone can see inaccuracies are not on TransLocRider ’s end.
