About Remoter VNC

• International keyboard support for servers that don't support direct input mode: German, Swiss-German, Russian, French, Danish and Spanish Keyboard mappings.

• Novel Virtual TrackPad allows for precise and intuitive control! right-click, and dragging.

●●●●● "Use it all the time from my iPad to control all my macs, ESP the entertainment center.

●●●●● "There are a lot of other VNC apps that cost a LOT more than this app, and (IMHO) they aren't as good.

●●●●● "A great multipurpose tool for managing your machines.

I can't even count the number of times this little app has saved the day when I'm stuck in a meeting and can't get to a terminal to check on things.

(...) Setting things up is as simple as entering your VNC information and pressing connect.

••• LifeHacker.com ••• says: "Remoter, (...) is currently on sale and is a pretty feature rich VNC app.

●●●●● "Best VNC I've tried: Best UI, support for WOL.

I use it to connect to Linux and Windows computers on my network.

• Intuitive Pinch to Zoom and drag to scroll.

Also use the Mac version, as 2 of my Mac minis are now headless.

Very rarely crashes, seems pretty stable.

It has never crashed and has a low memory footprint.

Broken

As per my original review, RemoterVNC was GREAT! Today, not so much. I haven’t used it in some time, but just tried to remote in to my iMac upstairs. It failed. Since I recently replaced my routers and updated my fixed ip addresses, I thought maybe that was an issue. It wasn’t, or shouldn’t have been (using Bonjour addressing, which was unchanged). So I decided to try editing the password, even though that had not changed. I can’t. The keyboard won’t stay on the screen. I tried re-adding the server (Remoter sees everything on my network just fine), but again.... the keyboard is borked. I had to resort to my MacBook Air to remote in and do a quick task. So the problem here obviously is Remoter.

Original review:

Once you get used to it, Remoter works outstandingly well with OS X's built-in VNC server. It has different "modes" for the mouse cursor (move, drag, scroll, etc) and you can zoom in and out easily. I have found it works poorly with alternative VNC servers like RealVNC, but that may be more a problem with them, not Remoter.

Perfect for External Display + Bluetooth Mouse (iOS 13)

I use my iPad with an external display (HDMI out) and I've recently set up a bluetooth mouse (which you can now do as of iOS 13). The other VNC apps do some kind of special handling for external displays, and the iPad's mouse cursor is not visible. * RemoterVNC is the only one that simply mirrors the iPad (like the system default) including the mouse cursor!* One small improvement might be that a long press could become a right-click, because I can activate a long press with the right mouse button because that's how I mapped the mouse buttons when I first set it up.

Good for me

I only use it locally—on my wifi network. I use my TV as a monitor, so times when I am watching something or when I am in another room and just need to check something quickly. It is pretty functional for that usage, although I wouldn’t try watching videos through it. I don’t have other software that does the same thing to compare it to, so my rating is just based on usefulness over time. The integrated mouse/touchpad control raise the rating.

Used to be great, broken under iOS 12, no update in a year

I tried to put it all in the title. As others have written, RemoterVNC seems to have stopped working. I can’t connect to machines I used to have no trouble connecting to, and there’s a keyboard issue that prevents me from entering text on the setup pages. App hasn’t been updated in a year and the latest posts on their user forum are dated 2016.

Stay away, at least until there’s an update.

Works like a charm

I tried Mocha VNC before RemoterVNC, and this beats it in every way. Navigation, trackpad, and keyboard options work perfectly.

I’ve used RemoterVNC for years now, and it’s solid as a rock. I’ve used it to connect to my Mac on the local lan or via the internet using a dynamic host name. It’s saved me a lot of times!

Still Garbage

They release an update that fixes an external keyboard but still can’t make the apostrophe work on the native keyboard on the original Pro, making RemoterVNC useless.

Response to developer: Really? You can't find a more professional way to provide support than through the cesspool that is Facebook? That's not going to happen. I don't know what other information I can provide anyway, the apostrophe has NEVER worked on the original iPad Pro in any version of RemoterVNC and it is useless without it.

Thrilled to see an update

Most complete program I’ve seen. Paid for full suite.

This has been my go-to for VNC, SSH, RDP but I was worried there hadn’t been update for a while and it was beginning to show its age.

Then surprise! New update fixed all problems I had noticed.

Stopped working after iOS update

I downloaded the free version of this but I couldn’t access Linux computers so I purchased the complete package with SSH in 2014 and it worked for a while. Now it doesn’t work and it won’t let me restore purchases. It always says in app purchases not allowed. I have iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 12.1 and it’s not working. I have deleted RemoterVNC and reinstalled but no joy. Contacting support is impossible, there is no contact information. I want my money back!!

cheap and has trackpad support

although there’s a problem of it not sending shift+enter on the magic keyboard to the server (ubuntu) as shift+enter. Very annoying in particular circumstances. Hope RemoterVNC will get continual support.

Pretty good - add support for iPhoneX

Been using it for several years and works well in general. Worth buying the package of add ons. However is not yet updated for iPhoneX and the buttons on the top corners are hard to press because of that. Please release an upgrade!

This software just works!

I hadn’t used RemoterVNC in awhile and was amazed after two years I fired it up and simply updated the IP address and everything just worked again. Very clean software.

Keystrokes not functioning

Single and double quote keystrokes are not functioning on native iOS virtual keyboard. These characters do not pass to remote Mac UI. [iOS 15]

By

SSH keys not working anymore

Can’t copy SSH key to PasteBoard. Can’t email them either.

Everything is awesome except when I generate an SSH key, I can’t do anything with it. I think OS14 broke it.

Lost all addons

After using the Remoter for several years, suddenly it says you need to purchase addons to connect with ssh or vnc. It shows all my presets. I have not changed my iPad lately. Are they trying to have me pay again? Edit: Now a couple of years later, after updating my iPad iOS I lost my presets and RemoterVNC cannot connect either through ssh or vnc/ssh to any Mac.

Update now constantly crashes

Why can’t app developers ever leave good enough alone? This was a perfectly smooth running app, and I made the huge mistake of updating it. Now it’s constantly crashing.

Seriously, if you’re bored why don’t you make a new app or something instead of screwing around with a super useful app, that is now literally destroyed.

Works better than expected.

I use this to access my home server/media center running Ubuntu.

Remoter

This tool functions better overall than Microsoft’s Remote Desktop client.

By

Works Great

Allows me to access my remote systems to check on status and conditions.

Abandon-ware

I have used Remoter VNC for many years with great success. However the iPad version will not run, always crashing on start. Interestingly it still runs on my iPhone XR. I have tried to contact support but there appears to be none. Their forums last post date back to 2016. This product appears to have been abandoned. Stay away.

Does the job well

I use this to connect to my Mac using Mac server software and a VPN. Works great. Very pleased with this software.

Awesome product, price misleading

The low price is what drew me to RemoterVNC; I saw it could do SSH as well, and since my computer's VNC server needs to be tunneled through SSH, this was a plus. Upon purchasing, I found an additional $2 (technically $1.99, but that basically means $2) payment was required for SSH support! This angered me, but as this was still cheaper than most of the other apps, I complied. I was pleasantly surprised at how usable and FAST the connection was, at very minimal JPEG quality loss. The control setup is surprisingly intuitive; I found it not at all cumbersome. I did not purchase all the functionality, but together it would have added up to around $8, so if you are thinking of getting this because there are so many features for so little, think twice. Initially, VNC is the only thing available, and you need to pay for SSH tunneling if you want a secure connection. Just let the buyer beware. Overall, I found this program to be remarkably stable and we'll-designed. It doesn't try to hide options or sugar-coat things; it is a robust piece of work. I highly recommend it.

I saw some complain of problems with remote monitors; granted, I have only VNC'd into Linux machines with the Gnome 2 and MATE desktops so far, I have encountered no such problems. Overall, excellent for my purposes.

Missing WoL Support

Not sure why Wake-on-LAN (magic packet) is not a feature on apps like these, but they’re useless without it. Your computer (Windows PC) has to be awake for RemoterVNC to connect. This requires a separate app to wake the computer up so you can connect.

By

Buyer beware!

The additional MacOS app, RemoterFusion no longer works with server. So you are not able to log in from outside your network. The developer’s website seems to be hacked and/or impersonating the developer, and Safari warns of expired certificates. My support email has not been responded too. Looks like it’s now vaporware.

Doesn’t work

Won’t connect to my computers, thought I was doing something wrong at first but then I downloaded other vnc apps on my phone that were free and they worked perfectly definitely a problem with Remoter,

Defunct software

I am surprised to still see this on RemoterVNC store. It seems defunct software. The forum hasn’t been updated in years, the support email never responds, the certificates for their site are expired, and the software does not work anymore. It used to be great.
