Orai - Improve Public Speaking Reviews

First of, this is a good app trying to solve a complex problem. Kudos to the crew building this out. Orai itself is engaging at first and the exercises are valuable. After a couple of weeks of using it every day I started getting annoyed at the bugginess. For example, as a paid member I am supposed to see the this app Insights but I legit don’t see anything show up. I’ve emailed customer support and they’re looking into it, so now is a matter of waiting. There are other areas that are clunky, like the feedback piece after you finish every exercise. It lacks real insight into how the scoring is factored in and some of the graphs for energy are hard to read. If I had the chance to go back and not get a membership I probably would have and looked at other apps before hand.

I’ll start by saying this. When Orai works, it is absolutely amazing. Quite possibly my favorite app I’ve ever downloaded. The analysis provided after you give a practice speech provides all the details you could want in order to improve your speaking ability. However, I would say that only about half of the practice speeches I make actually end up being analyzed. My service isn’t great where I live, so I mostly rely on wifi, and about half of the time when I click “Get Results,” Orai says “Lost connection, please record again.” I am hoping they will fix this bug in the future, and I will gladly change my review to five stars when they do.

After the trial period, I decided to pay for the yearly subscription. I liked Orai and the feedback it provided. However, when I started doing compelling communication course, Orai did not work properly. For every assignment, I tried recording 4-5 times, but it still kept asking me to record again and kept giving the recording error. It has been really frustrating as I have not got any feedback from many of the assignments in the course due to the recording error. The developers should fix these errors or give a refund for the subscription.

First of all, Orai shocked me. A close friend of mine suggested Orai because one of her friends is a developer of Orai. She told me that I might find it useful to practice for an oral argument in our law school. Instantly, I realized this was going to save so many law students' lives. In fact, anyone who needs to practice this speech should definitely use it. I need to try out Orai more to find out more pros and cons, but so far, this is great!

I really like the idea of the tool but there are quite a few issues with the user interface. Orai gives percentage scores for categories like pace, energy, fillers. When the scores are extremely high or low in percentage points, they make sense sort of. But when they are in the middle ranges like 48% or 67%, I feel very confused. Additionally I would get confusing feedback such as you were too fast at 205wpm. Reduce the number of pauses. So was i too fast or too slow?

Orai is great. So far, I have learned a lot and has a lot of great content. However, I have noticed there is a lot of bugs. Sometimes when I do the video recordings, it says it cannot connect to the server. It also takes a while for sections to begin. Right now as we speak, I am stuck on a loading screen on the introduction section. It has been an hour so far. I was going to do a year subscription but I’ll do a month for now to see if the bugs get sorted and if Orai gets more smooth.

One of my goals is to not only be a better public speaker, but to enunciate more clearly. When I saw an app like this app existed, i felt it was a good opportunity to learn new skills that I would need.

Unfortunately, Orai has many problems with detecting pauses. Every single practice, it says the sentences are ‘too long.’ No matter how long you pause for (I’ve sat in silence for 5 seconds just to see if it recognized the end of a sentence), or even if you say ‘end sentence’ or ‘period’, it ignores this and treats every sentence as a single, long sentence.

This problem means that you end up stalling and restructuring your speech unnaturally, defeating the entire purpose of Orai .

The idea of Orai is good, and I support its mission, but the inaccuracy of the technology means that I cannot recommend it.

I’ve loved Orai since its first version. It is very helpful in preparing for any speech. I like the ability to write your speech in Orai , but it would be even more helpful for this of us with an iPad keyboard to have the orientation turned to horizontal for better typing. I love the fact that it syncs across all of your apple devices.
The analytics are phenomenal. I know exactly how I’m doing with my tone and the number of “um”s I’ve stated in my speech. Great app.

I want to love Orai but I can’t get through a single recording session or training without an internet error message. I tried it on my home WiFi, work WiFi and cellular data however I continue to get an error message. After multiple attempts, I’m able to get it to work if I stop around 30 seconds. Hope this is fixed soon because I’m excited to see what Orai is capable of.

I was introduced to Orai through a fear of public speaking TED Talk. I am so excited that I decided to download. I have always had anxiety when it came to public speaking . Orai gave me the confidence to speak during meetings , casual social events etc. It’s like my speech coach and I love it! Hats off to the developers . Outstanding job with one .

I have always had a lot of passion when I speak but spent very little time listening to myself nor did I have a long term program to help me improve.... now I have both in this app, Orai is changing my life and I now KNOW that will be able to reach my potential in large measure thanks to this app!!!

I met the developers at Imagine Cup. I've been hooked ever since. I struggle with communicating on a daily basis, and Orai has helped me practice my speech and articulate properly. I look forward to seeing my improvement over. Definitely recommended, not just for speech givers but everyone!

If you really want to learn public speaking, then I highly recommend you try Orai out with their 7 day trial. I felt a change in my voice within the first 30 minutes of using it.

I like the idea of Orai, and I paid for it and have been using it often. But Orai has a lot of bugs. You’re almost guaranteed to encounter one every other time you use it. I hope the developers take some time to focus on fixing issues rather than adding new features.

Within an hour of use, I can already feel a difference in my voice and how I sound! Highly recommend.

I give it 4 stars only because of either a glitch that freezes Orai or the disconnect that has occurred a few times as I tried to save a recording. 5 stars for the overall idea. I really look forward to what this will become.

This is only the first day of my free trial and I am absolutely frustrated with Orai . I can’t even complete a speaking exercise because Orai said, “It’s taking too long to get to your results, but they’re not lost!” Then I had to redo the exercise over 20 times to get the same message... I will probably delete Orai today without finishing the 7 day free trial because of this.

Orai is awesome and, above all, they have great customer service. I had a small issue with billing and they resolved it promptly and were very helpful. They are very professional and Orai is simply awesome. Thank you!

this app is a great app for speakers of all types. There is something to learn for everyone and the learning is very deep. Great application of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to improve oration and public speaking. this app is a great example of ML and AI helping people develop their very human skills. Love everything about Orai except I cannot get it to work.... what am I doing wrong? Have tried multiple times to record a speech and it stops 9 out of 10 times

Been looking for an app like this for awhile. As the other reviews suggest, the user should be able to save the recording AFTER seeing the results. The pop up message forcing to save is very annoying because if the results are not satisfactory, the user may want to repeat and improve their recording rather than saving it.

Speaking of one of those things we all do and all want to do better. This little app allows me work on my speaking in private so I can sound better in public.

Fabulous App to improve public speaking and gaining confidence. It’s almost as if there is coach with you 24-7 and best way to practice and improve on your own. Highly recommended.

Never thought I can get my own speech couch that can give me feedback about my presentations with great accuracy, AND anytime I want!

I love the new updates and can’t wait for the new lessons.
