Beautiful game, great to come back to over & over...

Graphics are great, game play is simple & fun. While there is the pay to play component, it’s not necessary & you can participate anywhere from free to heavily invested. I would say to developers though that some high end character prices are insane imo, I personally wait until those can be won even though I’ve paid plenty to support the game myself (including monthly & weekly) because I really like it & have no problem paying for my entertainment or supporting artists; including games.
There’s enough variation to keep you entertained & I’ve found that I’ve picked this game back up after a pause a couple times. The original creators apparently recently reacquired the rights to the game & content so hopefully game play will improve even more. I’d love to see new characters & fresh ideas or challenges. Customer service with issues can also be improved, while they always fix issues, always compensate players for inconvenience on crashes or major glitches, their individual communication has always been awful. Overall though, it’s a great game & I don’t feel like it’s greedy like most p2p games out there, I feel like I get my money’s worth for my choices, which is saying something.

Definitely worth playing...but keep in mind...

This game is great, love the strategy/team builder genre and I feel this game nails it, but at the same time the P2W aspect(which let’s admit is to be expected), is just a little too much, there should be a limit to it or a certain extent to the feature, but it’s basically whoever has money has the strongest characters without the slightest effort in earning them...if you’re trying to cater to the people and have a good player base try to respect all players not just the ones willing to throw their wallets at you, that’s what most p2w games fail in...but otherwise I really enjoy the game and seem to be doing well for someone that doesn’t buy their way to victory.

Edit: Getting further and diving deeper into the game, seeing my commitment paying off with time, but still worry about the p2w, since I’ve played I haven’t rolled 1 legendary hero through gold keys or any other possible keys, just seems like it’s catered to those who spend the money, same with the events...the rich just keep getting things handed to them, while the free players have no chance in competing in the events for top positions/rewards.

Buggy and beautiful with some design flaws

It's one of the best looking mobile games out there with overall fantastic production value from the art, to the voice acting, to the animations, and beyond. However, it does have its fair share of bugs and design flaws. Though it does not crash frequently, it crashes enough to make you irritated. Occasionally, when you move to the next stage one of the characters from your party completely disappears. They can have full health and not be affected by any conditions and then as the characters walk over to the next stage...poof! They're gone and you're screwed. The second biggest design flaw in the game is how remarkably poor the energy management system is. As a free-to-play player, this is not a game that you can play longer than 30 minutes at a time before you run out of stamina and need to wait hours to replenish. Related to this, the biggest design flaw of this game is how incredibly in your face obvious it is that you need to pay to advance following the third chapter. While it's possible to slowly advance through the 4th chapter and beyond, you'd truly have to grind which is difficult to begin with due to the poor energy system. Besides these glaring issues, it's a fantastic game.

Poorly handled

The gameplay and design are really quite beautiful, but there are so many manipulative cash grabs it isn’t worth it. First, the “loot tokens” system is a transparent attempt to entice microtransactions. This is one of those games I gladly would have paid up front for, but the way they keep trying to force in app purchases just to progress has really turned me off to the whole game. Additionally, after the 4th zone the difficulty jumps dramatically to the point where I truly believe it impossible to beat even on easy...without spending real money for heroes better than any you can otherwise get. I’ve spent hours buying dozens of silver keys for 3000 gold and leveling up the best heroes I was given and I’m still ~100 power short of being on even footing. The upgrade costs to unlock heroes skills or raise their rarity are quite high too, considering even when you do have the tokens to replay, you get at most 140 gold for a run through, and skills are 2-8k to unlock. Not to mention the arena system matches you with players radically stronger than yourself - another attempt to get you to pay to win. Really sad to see a game with this much potential ruined in this way. On a technical note, a way should be added to hide or remove heroes you don’t want; the heroes page can feel quite cluttered with weak heroes you have no use for after a while

Good game. To buggy to play. Maybe try it later.

This is a fun game. It just has too many bugs not to be frustrating. It crashes a lot. For me, the most common time is when I turn in a key or win in the arena. When this happens, you lose the key or credit for the win. The game is basically arranged around these two things so that makes it very frustrating. The arena has started matching me with only people near double my strength so I gave up on that as useless anyway. It's about half the game and basically too broken to use so not good. Also, daily rewards are only sometimes received. Usually when it says you got a key, you don't. Now the "loot tokens" aren't working either which makes it so you can't play at all. I've watched the timer run down to zero several times. You are rewarded a loot token so you can play (think energy). When you go to the map it still says 0 tokens. If you restart the game, the token goes away. Only when you are not playing can you get new tokens. If the point of the new tokens was to make it so no one can play the game, good work. If there was another intent, fail. I'm uninstalling Lionheart even though I liked it. Too many keys I lost and no response from customer service. Maybe I'll try again another time but most likely not.

Step one: Pay to Win

Despite the graphics and easy to learn tutorial, the game will hit the inevitable pay wall. The story mode will get to a point where you can no longer advance without upgrading heroes or getting better ones. The upgrade process is long and arduous as the cost to improve skills is in the thousands, and it takes a while to attain that much gold by replaying the lower levels over and over and over. You are limited to loot by collecting loot tokens, which replenishes over time, and this extends the length of time to farm gold and hero tokens (needed to advance grade of the hero). Of course you can bypass the wall by opening up your wallet to purchase gold and loot tokens but the ratio of product to cost is horrible.

Bottom line; it is yet just another run of the mill turn-by-turn game where you get stalled for a long period of time unless you open up your wallet. Alliances:Heroes of the Spire offers much better chances to attain end game Mythic heroes without the pain of collecting tokens and small grabs of gold to do it and has a very active global and guild chat. If you dont mind a long, limited looting game with a modest social community witn your guild, then this app will suffice, but I recommend you look elsewhere.

The only reason I still use an iPad

Game has tons of depth but is tedious in some areas.

The arena requires 20 wins-ish per day to get all the daily rewards, this is high. Arena is also extremely easy once you max out. I love how they are adding and experimenting with new modes though.

Tower - this is a good idea in theory but in reality 300 floors is soooo tedious. Make less floors with harder enemies or something. It is literally a chore to complete.

Dungeon - can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s missing something.

Quests- I can’t think of any reason to do these. I’ve never gotten anything worthwhile except small gems which you can get anywhere.

Daily dungeons - good addition. I think tier 1 rings should be easier to obtain, the drop rate is horrendous and requires backfarming. I think that the costs for upgrades is too high for the amount you’re getting per run.

Besides that it is a very fun game, characters are unique and aren’t cookie cutter. The visuals and design of the game has a great level of detail. The game is supported and tweaked daily so you can rest assure that the devs aren’t sitting on their butts.

Build wise, I think the game needs some bug fixes. I accidentally duped a pet once unintentionally, this was removed 3 or 4 days later. The game after so long will begin to play slower and slower and slower as if the cache file is growing more and more until it becomes harder and harder to read. Fixes itself on restart. Might want to look into this.

More of the Same bring your wallet

Graphics are beautiful and well done. An it’s fun for the first 4 to 5 campaign levels. But then the difficulty increases dramatically and unless your willing to spend a lot of money. Then your going to spend months redoing those first campaign stages on multiple difficulties. Just to try and level characters to proceed on easy. An you still won’t be a match for their power level. Not to mention the arena is jus pay 2 win pvp. An with everything costing gold in the game. Makes no sense for it to be as hard to come by as it is. To upgrade your skills, characters, and even refresh your arena match’s. They all cost gold sometimes in excess of over 20,000. An yet the only way you ever make more than fraction of that? Yeah you guessed it you have to pay in the store for it.

It’s a shame that the developers are this greedy or just don’t care. Save your money an your time an try out some other games. But if your rich or using your parents wallet. By all means this games for you. But all this has left me thoroughly disappointed. Another game that could have been great and was well done. Ruined by greed an the need to charge as much as they could for even the smallest of things.

Plz READ

Hopefully you see this.. This game is fun and enjoyable, an pretty cool too.. Has the potential to be an amazing game that u don't put down in a couple weeks.. When I first started playing I was hooked. Characters look cool and gameplay is smooth. After a while the game for pretty buggy and started to crash. Can't tell if it's pay to win, but if they don't fix the arena I'm positive it will be, cuz u don't win crap after the first few battle.. Thus is my first review of a game because I like it a lot but plz fix bugs in ARENA, make it more fair.. An obvi just keep adding heroes in updates plz good game

UPDATE: positive it's pay to win unfortunately.. They keep matching me with people FOUR TIMES my power in arena. Impossible to win. BUT, u could spend money to get better heroes am I right?? PLUS, once u beat the 5th stage of story or 6th, it becomes way too hard an u don't know what to do, can only hope for a good summon so that options out the window. Really wish you'd make it f2p then I'll go back to playing it. Until then, I can't say I'd recommend this to anybody unless they got money to burn.

Fun with Flaws

Deleting this game. So poorly put together it’s laughable. I’ve only played so long because I spent a few dollars on it. Not worth it.

Drop Rates have been significantly lowered with this last update.

The game is charming in the beginning, but quickly turns in to an unnecessary grind with a very poor "Offer" system. The first purchase I made was roughly $7, because I enjoy supporting good developers. Last bit of money I'll ever spend on this game. Offers after this are around $30 or more, and are constantly being thrown at you. I really do appreciate the time and effort that goes in to games like this, but you are not a AAA developer, and I refuse to pay more for your game than I would a fully developed title. If your Offers were 10x less, I would consider it. It is unfortunate that I will most likely have to give up this game soon, because I kind of enjoy it, but the forced grind to promote sale of your character packages is done in really poor taste. I hope others will benefit from my review. Most other less than 5 star reviews are true. Those discussing the bad gold and energy systems are all true. I will update my review each update until I give up this game.

Excellant

What an epic production! The first thing that snared me when I launched the game was the prologue narrative. Scripting, voice, and opening narrative are the best I have experienced in a mobile game.
Graphically, there is no equal in the mobile community. Even the battle animations are simply beautiful. The gameplay is a bit challenging in the beginning, but upon reaching level 6, you can deploy a 4th team member so things are more manageable.
There is an energy system with a limited pool when you start, but it did not hinder my gameplay at all since you are awarded energy upon level up and as rewards. The energy pool max increases each level also. My first play was approximately 3 hours, good enough.
The iAP are fairly priced for a production of this quality and optional. Remember, the game is free. But like all ftp games, iAP are how the developers make a living. So, buy if you wish or don’t.
Lastly, thank you to Emerald City games for a great adventure!

GREAT but.......

Well I for one love this game but like any game this one also has some problems, like many of these reviews this game has a really weird ENERGY system it doesn't seem to last (obviously) it's not really consistent, using different amounts of ENERGY for the different difficulty is really ENERGY consuming so play time is rarely over ten minutes ( PLEASE FIX ) and as well another thing to do with ENERGY is the TOKENS this is no offense a really stupid thing with the problem of ENERGY on top of it I think to FIX it would be to maybe give us less TOKENS 3 or 5 something like that and make the TOKENS/QUICK LOOT no ENERGY so it would feel more like of a use because like I previously said it's kinda stupid because you can just play instead of the QUICK LOOT use and by playing you can level your characters so I feel it's just not to be.

I also would like to see more characters added thanks and keep up the good work!

Great until the pay wall

I actually really enjoyed this game up until I hit the pay wall. You get to the point where you cannot upgrade because you do not have enough coins and your guys are not strong enough to continue. And then everything costs coins too. And that is not even the premium currency but with the loot tokens you are not even allowed to grind. U need coins and thousands of them for Upgrading the characters, upgrading skills, finding a new opponent because the matching making is so bad it pit you against someone that has more than 2 times your power. If you are going to charge coins for every little darn thing at least let us grind for the love of all that is good and holy. Allow coins and xp without your stupid loot tokens since there are level caps anyway so you have to get lucky with tokens to really power up. Give us some way forward except paying crazy amounts. I would even consider paying a one time fee to allow me to grind but I am not paying every time I wasn’t to level up a skill.

Was a 3.5 now a solid 4

First of all this game is gorgeous. With the revamp of the energy system, the devs have definitely taken a big step in the right direction. I think it still needs some tweaking, but you can now play longer than 5 minutes a day.
For the most part, I like what they’ve got going on but it needs something more. I don’t see a ton of long term playing potential. It seems very grindy, autoing the same level over and over (or 12 times as that is the energy restriction for levels already played (this does not refill if you level up in the middle) without paying much attention to inch your characters up little by little in power. The pvp is a nice touch but needs help, I keep getting matched with people double my power level and every time i pay to reroll for a new fighter, they just get stronger!

Amazing games with terrible bugs

This game is fantastic overall. Great mechanics and progression as well as graphics. It’s just an all around really amazing game. But none of that matters because the game itself is riddled with game breaking bugs. The quest I need to go on to continue the game won’t load. I’ve tried over 20 times doing various different things to try and solve the issue. This is preventing my from leveling up and accessing the entirety of the game as well as continue on with the storyline. I would try and delete and redownload the game but I can’t because the only way to save your progress is to connect to Facebook, and the link for that is also broken. The game crashes frequently as well making playing the game at all, a real challenge. I even tried to troubleshoot the problem using the Q and A but the information listed here primarily relates to the basics of how to play the game, not how to get around all of the problems that come with the game.

Excellent and doesn’t deserve the negativity

Let me qualify this review by saying I’ve been an active player of auto battler RPGs (Summoner’s War, Monster Super League, King’s Raid, SW:GOH, FFRK, etc.) for the last 3 years. I was attracted immediately due to the art style - most of these games don’t have a high level of detail and this one really does. I tried it out and I don’t regret it at all. It’s fun, easy to understand, and generally tries to do things a bit differently than the others. To a fault perhaps. Here’s the rundown:

PROs:
Beautiful and amazing from vfx/rigging/animation perspective
Story is tolerable and that’s more than I can say for the others in this genre
Combat is pretty interesting and the combos are cool
The UI is easy to follow and isn’t overwhelming

CONs:
The energy model is a poorly implemented version of the traditional zynga/web/mobile-style system
Monetization price points are calculated by someone who doesn’t realize how bad they’re impacting their ARP/DAU by forcing lower session times
The pace of character advancement reaches a steep initial curve at the 5th zone

That being said, it’s worth playing, and I still give it 5 stars. Giving it anything less would be like down rating amazing food due to bad service. Hopefully their junior MTX guy will pick it up so their fantastic art team can stay employed.

Cool game with problems

First off I would like to say I love this. I am greatly enjoying it when it’s not bugged out or crashing. I have been playing about 2 months and have over half of the characters without a purchase. I have noticed a steep decline in me actually getting new characters for about 2 weeks now. This game crashes at least 6 times a session. For me can be up to like 3 hours if not working. I have sent numerous complaints with no response. I haven’t seen any bug fixes. Just the adding of more characters. There is a wall if you don’t pay and it’s about world 6. You get really low amounts of money per finish. Not enough to upgrade anything for at least a couple of days. As much as I want to invest in this game there is a point where I get annoyed and put it down because I crash to much or just can’t pass a level. I would recommend this for about a month and that’s it. Not worth paying for. I will keep playing and I really enjoy but I want to see things fixed.

Wonderful game, stupid mistakes

I dont usually write reviews .. but as this game has potential.. i would like to contribute my opinion.. first is the energy system.. literally 5 fights and u are out .. then u gonna wait 3 hours to refill lol .. unless u wanna buy and refill your energy which is 0.99 approximately lol

Dont get me wrong.. i play shards of magic and i spent 2k dollars over 10 months.. but the shop and energy system is a joke.. now i dont have the time to open the game every 3 hours.. u should give me 15 hours bar of energy just like most popular games do.. shards of magic is a money hungry company .. i dont mind as long as u give me quality.. which in this game case , shop is a joke..

Another thing, apparently if u choose to loot and auto battle or blitz the stage.. u dont get exp for heros ( what? LOL) u have to actually fight and waste ur time on battles u won before so u can get exp for heros, but u still get the same rewards whether u blitz or fight ur self.. exp is just missing, i mean it doesnt make any sense

Overall great game, laggy sometimes... but i enjoy it .. and i dont enjoy alot of games :)

Limit-ness

This is an example of a great rpg ruined by a paywall. They ruined the game so much I can’t even play anymore. You can’t grind for loot. They limit how much you can get tokens and gold and pets etc. but you can grind xp all you like (not that it matters).
You need to unlock characters not by getting their tokens but by getting a key that unlocks them. So you can have 100 tokens of a badA$$ but cant use him until you get a key that may unlock him. So many restriction. Instead of energy to play you get tokens to get items. When the token run out you get nothing but xp and you can’t even grind the tokens because they let you get it once a day.

And the biggest commodity is gold. Gold is so expensive and so little ways to get it. This game gets old real quick. Too bad it had so much potential. Please devs change your business model. 2 daily dungeons??!! - go fly a kite instead.

Great game, too many constant glitches.

Great graphics and awesome design, I have spent hours in this game all together This is a wonderful game... when it is working, I have been able to play for a couple of days however I’ve had it installed for over a week. The game will constantly tell me that there is a new version available even though it is up to date and no matter what I do I cannot play. There is a pay wall however it is possible to get past the pay wall if you are willing to put in the time. If the glitches are ironed out this would be the number one game I play and I would be willing to spend money on it, however until it is fixed I’ll be saving my money for the next great game. All together I suggest trying the game but don’t get your hopes too high or you will most likely be disappointed at the massive glitches and game down time.
