Excellent Info in a Beautiful, Clean Design

In my quest (I’m a librarian) for an app that would display daily and monthly solar and lunar phases, I did a little research and found this one was very well-rated over and over for its breadth of data, its friendly interface, and its features. Since SundialSolarLunarTime kept floating to the top, I downloaded it and I have been a Basic user for a few months.

I just love it, and I find myself using it often. It is deceptively simple, due to its clean design, but packed with information, which I enjoy browsing. Some practical uses:

• I like to know when the full moon is coming up for viewing (and sometimes to confirm a string of bizarre behavior, although that seems to have ramped up to “daily” in 2020).

• When we’re working in the yard, it’s great to see how much daylight we have left.

• When we’re traveling and want to view a sunrise or a sunset, we can see the time for that, no matter where we are in the world.

• I have a daily alert set for dusk, to remind me to bring in our suet and birdfeeders, before they are accosted by marauding raccoons from the woods.

• SundialSolarLunarTime is also a terrific learning tool, both for us, ourselves, and for us to use as we help introduce our 3-year-old granddaughter to these natural, ancient rhythms and phases.

Very pleased - a great app. I plan on upgrading for more personal tinkering and preferences. Highly recommend!

My favorite complication; exceptional developer

The best visualization of sun and moon data you’ll find on iOS (and watchOS), or anywhere else. The unique dial is such a clever, concise infographic, simple to read and dense with information. It’s glanceable, memorable, and legible even at the scale of a watch complication. The update to v7.0 is fantastic: it introduces a brand new watchOS app with extremely deep customization, as well as the longest list of complications and iOS 14 widgets I’ve seen from any app, period. Best of all, the developer is very committed to the project and extremely responsive to customer support, and just a friendly, pleasant individual to correspond with. Sundial may not be the most “mission-critical” app on your phone, but if you’re the kind of person who looks skyward — and at app reviews — then this is more than worth the price of a coffee.
Enjoy! 🌞🌝

Awesome!

Have been using it for almost a year and love it! I rarely buy apps or leave reviews but I feel like the fish from Spongebob who had Jellyfish Jelly for the first time lol🤣 it does everything I want it to. Side note: I had the free version for almost a year and finally decided to go Pro. The best part is the free version had no annoying adds (thank you), I was able to set up my alerts( you can only do one at a time on the free) and it tells you the percentages/stages of the sun and moon. Now I’m fancy and can do all the alerts I want🤪.
I was not affected by the update pertaining to the Apple Watch. To all the people complaining about it: make your own app and add it your App, there problem solved😇. Overall, this is a pretty cool app with great features free or premium.

I Use This App Every Day!!

Love SundialSolarLunarTime! It’s just what I’ve been looking for! The visual graphics are prefect, and all the different specifications of sunlight and moonlight are comprehensive. I like to know sunrise and sunset, also knowing dawn and dusk now has been a pleasant enlightening for knowing how much longer you will be able to see at night, and when you will start seeing daylight in the morning. And it’s come in handy countless times for knowing how much daylight is left if I’m working in the yard or want to take the trash out before it’s totally dark. Or when will the wildlife start stirring outside at the first light of dawn- know I know the time! Get SundialSolarLunarTime- if you like watching the sky, connecting with Mother Earth- you will love it!!

WATCH Support is Back!!!

I’ve owned SundialSolarLunarTime for a few years and loved every part of it. But when the developer ceased support for the Apple Watch a while back, it wasn’t nearly as useful for me and I ended up deleting it. It was very disappointing and I found a replacement which wasn’t nearly as good, but I need a sunrise/sunset complication on my watch that is more appealing than the stock complication.

Not only is SundialSolarLunarTime a five-star favorite of mine, the return of WATCH support and the catalog of every complication you could think of makes SundialSolarLunarTime better than ever before.

Many, many thanks to the developer for bringing it back to the WATCH. And please don’t remove it ever again!

Amazing app! For our hens and for us!!

I was looking for something that allowed me to put the hens to bed in the evening at sunset, get a good nights sleep, and wake up just before the hens started squawking that they wanted out into their day pen at sunrise (don’t know if the neighbors appreciate their vocals as much as I do lol). The fact that SundialSolarLunarTime offers not one but all three twilights, a.m. as well as p.m., has me over the moon in love with it! I can let the hens out at morning civil twilight, put them to bed at evening civil twilight, and then set the last alarm for nautical twilight to get a wonderful night sleep, in tune with my body and the rotation of the earth :-) LOVE LOVE LOVE SundialSolarLunarTime

It’s ok

I don’t like that they killed the classic widget, but hey, progress. Otherwise it’s a decent assortment of solar and lunar info, and a good selection of widgets (must pay in-app purchase for plus+ or whatever the f they call it).

I use in combination with an app called “Moon,” which fills in the gaps of functionality and widgets (eg. Solar/lunar elevation chart widget).

Should also mention that the shiny new widgets have been a rocky road in terms of development in the first months of their release—some days the widgets don’t load properly, or just show a black square. Will update of the situation gets better, but just saying, the dev charges premium prices fo amateur execution of SundialSolarLunarTime . I’d probably look elsewhere if I hadn’t sunk money into it already for plus. So, eh.

Great app!

I love that SundialSolarLunarTime is accurate, intuitive to use, and provides as much or as little information as I want. I really appreciate how customizable it is and the ability to set alerts. I also love that it’s a one time purchase; I think we are all tired of everything becoming subscription-based and it’s refreshing to find an app that doesn’t do this. I have only one suggestion:

Maybe provide a pricing bundle that combines Plus with widgets, for customers without an Apple Watch? I am happy to pay, but more options would be nice too.

Wonderful App! Nothing else like it 🌞🌝👍

Thank you so much for SundialSolarLunarTime!
I've been searching for something like this for years. A simple, visual representation of of the setting and rising of the sun and moon. Rather than just listing times or showing the common "sine wave" type graph, it shows the information on an intuitive 24 clock face. It's like a fancy complication on an expensive watch.
Almost makes me want to get an Apple watch so I can have it on my wrist.
I would gladly pay $5 for this, but it's free!
Suggestion: the widget should have the same clock face as SundialSolarLunarTime , just smaller.

At last what I was looking for!

All I wanted was an app that would enable me to use twilight and sunrise/sunset times as an alarm clock! I don’t care about “golden hour” or photography considerations or sunset forecasts. You’d think something so basic would be easy to find. SundialSolarLunarTime does exactly what I want and thankfully it includes nautical and civil dawn/twilight as well. My only suggestions would be to be able to custom calculate angles of the sun beyond the set points, but the set points are quite convenient as they are. Buy the premium version - it’s worth it!

Love this app!

I use an IPhone 11 Pro. SundialSolarLunarTime is useful all over the world. I use it frequently. From Europe to the USA to Asia to the South Pacific SundialSolarLunarTime keeps me posted on sunrise, noon and sunset. The designers have really improved SundialSolarLunarTime over the years and I am now using it much more frequently. I would recommend it for photography, boating, mountaineering or any other sport that is performed outdoors where the time of day or the angle of the sun is important SundialSolarLunarTime will keep you on track for sun and moon transitions. Keep the updates coming it's working nicely.

I love your app!

Hi there, I love your app, it is so simple and clean but with a lot of options to customize. I liked it so much that I had to get premium!!! I love the alerts and I use them every day as I get to work before sunrise and leave after sunset!! I really wish there were options for notifications on the equinoxes and solstices, and other large-scale events like that! I don’t know if that would be feasible but I think it would add some fun and utility to SundialSolarLunarTime . Thank you for your hard work on SundialSolarLunarTime :)

By

Just what I was looking for

Believe it or not, I’ve been looking forever for an app that allows me to set custom notifications based on solar and lunar events. I’m so glad I finally found an app that lets me do just that. One feature SundialSolarLunarTime doesn’t have that I would like, because I might be a bit obsessive, would be the ability to create notifications based around nautical and astronomical dawn and dusk in addition to what is already available. But overall, great app and definitely worth space on your phone.

A bright idea

Much of my natural joy in life comes from plenty of sunshine in the day and moonbeams at night. Though it is winter now and has been overcast for over a week SundialSolarLunarTime is like being given the promise that, “The sun will come out tomorrow!”

Intelligently designed and useable. Love the visual graphic of sun and moon arcs around the 24 hour period. Creates an anticipation for sunrise, and awareness of sunsets that I will always take the chance to watch when I can. SundialSolarLunarTime brings the sun around! Thank you for developing it and making it readily available!

Update review

I didn't realize this was an independently made app. I'm used to companies putting every little detail behind a pay wall nowadays. Anyways, I've used SundialSolarLunarTime for as long as I can remember, I have other sun and moon apps but this is the most accurate and comprehensive. If I had an apple watch I would most certainly use the widget that shows the dial itself because of how much info it packs without being complicated. (Alas I don't have one) Great app.

Best Solar and Lunar Data App

My work is often done at night so having a quick reference for sunset/sunrise and moon set/rise as well as illumination % is huge. Even more so is the easy visual representation to determine the moon position for my shift time. I haven’t seen a better or easy app out there!

Also, I emailed the developer about an extra feature and it was added! So helpful to be able to scroll several days ahead for planning or behind for previous conditions. I love SundialSolarLunarTime and highly recommend it.

Best App Ever!

I have installed several hundred apps over the years, and I have to say this is the most well thought out and coolest app I’ve ever seen. After an initial glitch which the developer personally reached out to me on, and was very helpful in resolving, it has worked flawlessly. The fact that it works on my phone, iPad and watch is absolutely awesome. There is so much information available in SundialSolarLunarTime that I can’t think of another thing that should be added. It is well worth the $3 upgrade.

Love it! Developer very passionate!

I honestly just downloaded it and immediately purchased the full version. Why? You can feel the love and dedication from the developer to provide the best info and explanations about solar and lunar cycles! I meditate a few times a day and wanted to implement more awareness of the times of day when it would be part of a certain cycle or in between them. Thank you for all your passionate work! Looking forward to your new stuff and will recommend to my students ❤️🙏🏼

This is the one

If you are looking for sun and moon data this is your app. Using the free version a couple hours I had to buy the full version. I use it mainly on my watch where all the options are amazing even without a phone and no need to leave the battery draining gps on. As great as the options and watch faces are, using it on the phone may even be better. Give it a try, then buy the full verdion.

A "Must Have" for Me

This simple app provides me when the sun and moon have moved through their various cycles.
One of the unfortunate circumstances of modern civilization, especially for those who live in urban settings. We are no longer able, nor particularly required, to know the moment our Sun is kissing the horizon or when the Moon will set. This easy alert-friendly provides that information - and more.
When ever I acquire a new device this is one of those apps I make sure has been re-installed.
As you can tell I love this Sundial. Thank you.

Great app for runners, hikers or walkers.

I like to time the start of my runs so I am running when the sun rises. Gives me a boost of energy when the sun come up. Sundial makes this very easy to do. Plus SundialSolarLunarTime is internet free; there is no backend server keeping track of your personal data. Also Sundial is easy on your battery. Alerts are very useful. Sundial is better than any of the other sun rise/sun set apps I looked at. Respect to the developer.
As others have suggested, please consider adding some form of first/last light. I’m not sure what makes the most sense; civil or nautical or astronomical.

Wonderful app!

SundialSolarLunarTime packs a lot of information into an aesthetically pleasing format. I also greatly appreciate the iPad and Apple Watch apps that allow me to access and view this information from multiple platforms. I’ve looked at many similar apps, but I’ve found this one to be superior to its competitors. Can you tell that I like this 😉?

The only suggestion I would make is including times for the Golden hour. Otherwise, I have no complaints whatsoever!

Excellent!

Being blind, I think it’s good for me to know what the sun and moon are doing. Until I had SundialSolarLunarTime, it was hard for me to know when it was getting dark and how dark it would be at night based upon the moon’s illumination. For safety reasons, I try not to be out alone for too long in certain places after dark. Besides all that, I think it’s kind of cool and interesting to know what the sun and moon are doing. Now it would be cool to know when the equinoxes and solstices are.:-)

Fan-freakin’-tastic

The genius of some people. I like to walk at sunrise and prepare to set out about 30 minutes prior to the event. Until I stumbled across SundialSolarLunarTime it’s been a minor pain in the derrière keeping up with time of sunrise from week to week but SundialSolarLunarTime sounds an alarm, I get dressed, and I walk out the door. Seriously cool, boys and girls.

UPDATE: SundialSolarLunarTime would be a bit cooler if it had an owl’s hoot for use as an alarm for sunset and maybe a slightly different one for moonrise.

Why is moon always shown at same position as sun?

It’s a useful app, but I cannot for the life of me understand all the 5-star reviews in the face of a huge bug: in the graphic display, the moon is always shown at the same position as the sun. That should occur only during a new moon. With a full moon, for instance, the moon should be 180 degrees away from the sun. Quarter moons should be 90 degrees away. Surely other users have noticed this! Am I missing something?

My new Muslim prayer app

I read a while ago, that the ancient
people used to observe time as “watches” of the day. Then yesterday I was watching a documentary on the Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient Jews did the same and I realized that Muslim prayer times are really done according to the same watches of the day. SundialSolarLunarTime helps me understand that we pray before sunrise, a little after high noon, between that and sunset, Sunset and evening. It’s a lot more useful to pray with the natural cycle of the day.

Works extremely well

Works extremely well. It also includes the option of having alerts of the different solar and lunar events. You can even offset these alerts by the amount of time of your choice, so you get alerted before the events happen. The other app I tried did not provide any of this information so SundialSolarLunarTime is infinitely better.😁
