The kids like it!

We’ve been using Rooster with our kids for about two weeks now and so far so good! It’s a work in progress to get the kids to refer to the app for their chores, but they are quickly learning that if they don’t get those chores done daily, they lose a percentage of their allowance. The kids DO really like having that visual of their money. My daughter blew through her Spend account the first week and then asked to rent a movie last night. I asked her how much money she had and when she checked she realized what she had done. I say that’s a good lesson learned. I’m still getting the hang of the app myself. I find checking on the chores a little difficult. It seems like sometimes the chores disappear from the list but I don’t remember the kids actually doing them. And I’m not too crazy about the Allowance Jobs and the Extra Jobs being on two different lists. I would like to see them flow together and maybe just tagged differently. I would also like to see a setting that allows a percentage of the Extra Jobs money go directly into savings. So far only the Allowance Jobs have that option. I emailed the developers about this and they got back to me within a day and said they would add it to their request list for the next update. Overall I’m pleased with the app!

5 stars from our family!

We have been looking for a way to keep track of our kiddos’ spending money in a more on-the-go, fun, user-friendly way. We recently found the this app app. It’s all about managing pocket money with kids and teaching them about the value of money. When we set it up, we had them bring us the amount of cash that he wanted to deposit in their this app “bank”. We can both have access to the same account so he can deposit and withdraw money from his phone and I can from mine. We can make notes for each transaction and we can also deposit/withdraw the same amount from multiple kids at the same time. When adding their “weekly commission” we can also sort it by “give”, “save”, and “spend” so we are teaching budgeting principles. It’s fun for them to see their money going up (or down) and helping them track how much money they have to work with in each of those 3 categories. It’s also free to join with the option of upgrades to add chores and several other features. We are loving it so far!

Solves the problem for us!

Did we give the kids their allowance this week? Did Mom? Did Dad? Do we owe them from last week? 2 weeks ago? While we were on vacation? Did we forget to give them allowance on vacation? But didn’t we cover it by giving them extra spending money on vacation? What about that money grandma sent that we held onto because they didn’t have pockets/wallet? How much money do you have in the bank? In your piggy bank, at home? How much do we owe you for doing that chore? Didn’t we pay you already? What about our last trip to the grocery store where you said you would buy that sugary cereal with your own money and pay us back when we got home? Did you pay us back yet? You did? I don’t remember, was it Dad or Mom you paid back? We never have to worry about any of these questions, ever again! this app makes it simple to track a weekly allowance amount going into our kids accounts, we never forget and we can check from anywhere (and the kids can check from their mobile devices, too)! We can instantly deduct from their available balance if they want to get anything at the store while we’re out - no more questioning or forgetting to account for things. Bonus? this app reflects exactly how electronic paychecks and banking work for adults in the real world and we’re training our kids (unbeknownst to them) on how to be adults with bank accounts long before they are old enough in the bank’s eyes to be issued a debit card.
