Good but needs improving

AJCNews is much better than it was over the past few years but it needs improvements to ease of access. A big step would be making it easier to access different sections. For example I have to scroll quite a bit to get to the sports section, then scroll vertically to pick between different Atlanta teams. I would at least like a button at the top of the Home Screen that displays a vertical list of major sections.

If at all helpful, I believe the best newspaper app is the New York Times’. Following their lead on UI and UX could be a good strategy to continue building AJCNews .

Request setting option for limited or no photos

Many of the photos accompanying articles seem stock photos that aren’t current or newsworthy or remain unchanged from day to day in certain sections. I would find it visually helpful to have a headline-only option to be able to quickly scroll through to select articles. Please consider adding this option to the settings.

Occasionally I can’t arrow back to a previous screen; that option seems frozen, but if you’re not hearing that’s a problem I can’t rule out it being an internet issue on my end. Thanks.

Another awful iteration

I only use AJCNews to read the paper, but each iteration of AJCNews makes it more and more difficult. Now to download to read offline, I have to download a pdf file. If I read online it takes forever to get the paper up, AJCNews constantly shuts down unexpectedly or just closes the edition I’m reading and goes to the front page of the most recent edition. It never remembers where I’m at so each time I open AJCNews I have to remember and find my place.

Contacting support does no good. They just bleat out the old, tired call of “restart your device” or “make sure you have the recent update”.

If there was another paper in Atlanta I would drop this one like a rotten squash and move on.

AJC deserves a better product

Used to be one of my favorite ways to get ATL/GA news. Now, I’ve become so frustrated with clicking notifications that don’t take me to the story I want to read in AJCNews , scrolling various stories only to have AJCNews bounce back to the top (and lose my place), stories not loading (or plain do not exist), amongst other issues. AJCNews seems to get worse and worse every day, and that’s unfortunate considering there are smaller-market papers with incredibly professional and well-made apps- and that is the future of newspapers.

Need for newspapers

The AJC with it’s stable of reporters does a stellar job keeping metro Atlanta informed. News papers do the work and have the space to report local government business, along with in-depth and investigative stories that need to be told. It appears today’s editors have followed in the footsteps of the bold men and women before them. Relying on cable news is only half the information with newspapers filling in the gaps providing a levity and time for reflection

The essential AJC.

We subscribe to three print newspapers, daily and weekend, and frequently buy others on newsstands, plus an occasional on line offering. Recently we had a discussion—if we had to cut down to one, which would it be? We all agreed, a no-brainer—the ESSENTIAL AJC, which covers the entire waterfront of our lives. I’m honored to give it five stars.

I Page Down - It Pages Back UP!

I enjoy reading the articles and the information concerning Georgia issues but AJCNews constantly jumps back up to the top as I page down the page. The AJC app has been doing this as long as I can remember and no update has addressed this issue, probably because the developers don’t realize there is an issue. But how can they keep missing this HUGE defect that has been mentioned in so many reviews?
On the positive side, it does seem to get under the skin of the right-wing NUTS.

The Liberal Bias AJC!!

My family has had a subscription to the AJC since the 70’s. About 3 years ago all members of my family, including extended family, chose not renew their subscriptions due to the liberal bias and partisan politics that the AJC has committed to engage. The AJC has determined that people like myself, who practice and believe in free speech, the 2nd amendment, capitalism and free will are no longer valuable and that liberal politicians know what best.

Once the Coronavirus has been resolved, I will delete AJCNews and will still consider the AJC as an untrusted source of journalism and a fair news source for all people.

Love online daily AJC

I really love making the AJC paper my morning activity. It’s so nice to keep up with Atlanta and national news especially and to get updates all during the day. It keeps me from having to recycle and go outside to pick up the paper and I enjoy the online experience.

Review

I enjoy reading the AJC, but do have two complaints. Not enough content. I see the same stories over and over, and I know there’s a lot going on in Atlanta! The stories they cover are good, but most are about black people. A little diversity would be great!

Just the Headlines, Please

I’m looking for a quick read. Just show me the headlines and let me decide what I want to read, like a real paper does. Too many canned photos, some with little relevance to the content; too many repeated stories; too many outdated stories. Give me what’s important to know today. Make me believe an AJC editor is paying attention to content and detail.

Business owner

I am social distancing in Illinois, far away from home in Atlanta. It has been a lifeline to keep up with the news there. Great coverage. It is also interesting to watch the “every man for himself state” from afar. What does Kemp think he is doing?

Much Improved

The new UI is very nice and much better than the WSB-TV app. So far, not every article opens up in a web page but actually inside AJCNews now. Scrolling is smooth and no ads sitting at the bottom of the screen. The only thing that’s missing is dark mode.

Opinion section not available

AJCNews is pretty good, except;
The opinion section is not available and even though I chose to NOT see any sports in my news feed, on certain days half of the stories are sports.

Impossible to read

The latest AJC update is aesthetically pleasing and well organized. However, as you read, the constant refreshes take you back to the top every time. I get so frustrated trying to read all the articles, I shut AJCNews . AJCNews developers asked about my problem. After sharing my experience with them, the problem persists.

Me. Mary Evelyn gordon

I depend on the Atlanta journal constitution to keep me informed on important issues in Georgia. This has been true for three generations.
I carried an issue of the Atlanta journal to my Father who was working in the field here at our farm. That issue announced that World War II had ended.

By

Easy

I like that I can get a quick overview of the news and read the article when I have time. And I appreciate the notation “Opinion”, so that it isn’t confused with news.

Worst app I’ve ever tried to use

I recently got AJCNews to keep up with local info surrounding the pandemic. AJCNews is hard to use, it’s impossible to search for a story or topic, and all too often the links don’t take you to the article you click on.
I’m also annoyed at the ‘look’ of the articles — the layouts are more like something I would expect of a fourth-rate rag. Or maybe I’m expecting too much.

By

Informative but slow

The new AJC app has a nice look and is decently organized, but it has serious performance issues. Scrolling is slow and “jumpy” and gets worse the further into an article you go. Long articles can become almost impossible the scroll through, as they don’t respond well.

Great Job!

In a time when Mainstream Media can’t be trusted for accurate information. We are all turning to our Local News to give us The Information we need to better live our lives! Thank You!

Poor

With the newest update you cannot delete parts you do not want. I would like to select the news I would like to read. In the previous version you could select or block what you didnot want to read - this new update does not allow this. Also the new is usually not up to date

New app

Love the new format, easy to navigate, much better than the old format. Many thanks for great reporting and up to date information.

Paid for subscription but Ads still exist.

I paid for an online subscription with Sunday delivery. I use AJCNews on my iPhone X. When I open AJCNews to read articles I see Google ads on the page. A majority of online websites have ads yet when subscribers PAY for access the ads are removed.

By

Better than before in terms of layout

Still can be improved. Look at the WSJ or the London Times for 5 star

By

Atlanta News

This update is a big improvement. I like the new app, keep it up.

By

Wow

AJCNews flows very well. I find the new app 100 times better than the last one.

By

No link to news update alerts

Latest all-everything version cannot link from the push notifications to the related article in AJCNews . New app, same crap.

By

So simple!

Love how easy AJCNews is to use especially since I’m always on the go!

By

Not Quite There Yet

Can you please add an option to save an article? This is a feature on The NY Times and the Apple News apps. This would be tremendously helpful.

By

Great local news

If you care about what is going on in Atlanta, get the AJC. App works well.

My News Doesn’t Work

I don’t want to see Falcons news, it’s not selected in my settings, but it takes up most of my news feed. Also, the top 3 scrolling articles are slow to load and often don’t work.
