Amazing improvements

When I first got Mastodon , I liked the aesthetics but there was quite a bit missing. I couldn't see those I'm following or my followers. I couldn't use multiple accounts without a hassle. I didn't understand how to write direct messages (this was a misunderstanding on my part) and I couldn't view the federated timeline. Fortunately in 1.2.0, it's now possible to see followers and those you're following. Possibly more importantly, multi account support is now stellar. Using multiple accounts is vital on decentralized platforms and protocols such as ActivityPub, and this gets it right. Maybe the federated timeline will come later, or maybe it'd be difficult to justify given Apple's strict rules, but it's chaotic and spammy enough that I don't mind logging in on a browser for the few times I need it. I love how quickly this project is taking shape. Its UI is simple yet does exactly what I want it to do. And that wouldn't be possible if it weren't a free and open source project!! Props to MainasuK and Gargron :)

Improves the On-Ramp to the Fediverse

Mastodon allows you to easily get connected around the world, to learn and collaborate with other users of the exponentially growing Fediverse social platform network.

You can easily find a server via search, and review their descriptions. The e-mail verification process during the joining process is seamless.

Once you join a server (instance), it is easy to find and explore accounts to follow. Those accounts might follow accounts on other servers, which allows you to explore additional communities.

Your Fediverse experience can evolve with you deciding to eventually sign up to a different server that better suits your needs.

You can find more complex features on your server and on the Fediverse in general when you use a web browser to access your account, but Mastodon provides a perfectly comfortable user experience for those new to the Fediverse.

Nice app but missing basic things

At least for me. I want the local and home and federated tabs. It’s hard to tell what is going on and when with how it is now. Also Mastodon lags sometimes and seems much slower than my favorite app. Please consider adding the tabs for local and home and federated. Now things seem all mixed in together and it’s hard to find new people signing up in my instance.

Great Official App

It’s nice to see the devs at this app finally release their own application. Simple, smooth, clean.

The only thing I would like to see, which h I’ve yet to see any practically any this app app, is the ability to change the text size. Other than that, this will be my go-to from now on.

Clean, clear, and responsive

I have been using this app for about a year and this is one of the best applications I've had the opportunity to use! The UI is responsive and crisp, and it's easy to switch between accounts and discover new people to talk to!

💙

The application does not provide the trial version of Testflight to the public, most of the features on the site are not available in the application, I wish to remove the server name next to the user name there is some kind of confusion

Need the settings to hide boosts

There, that’s why it’s missing the 1 star. I will give it a 5 star if this function is added. I like Mastodon but I really need to turn off boosts.

Amazing

It is refreshing to be on a platform with no ads and data mining like what you see on the mainstream corporate platforms.

this app puts users needs first, it’s nice to see that we have chronological timelines rather than algorithm based timelines.

Good start, minimal experience

Mastodon has a clean interface but is missing the local and federated timelines so it's not a full experience and would be useless for a new user. It also is missing customization features seen in other iOS this app apps, as it just has a basic light or dark theme. Not worth switching to at this time.

New User Un-Friendly

I downloaded Mastodon as a brand new user of this app, and I am totally confused. I can’t search for any servers—only hashtags and people. How am I supposed to look for people to follow if I don’t even know what servers I want to follow? It would be helpful to have some sort of tutorial or help setting up new accounts via mobile.

Meh.

It’s pretty and I want to like it, but it doesn’t (and won’t) support viewing the local timeline. What’s the point of a client that won’t show you what other people on your server are saying? Without this, this app instances have all the personality of an email server. There are other, better clients to choose from.

By

Doesn't support post length discovery

Try to use this with a server that supports longer than default posts and it won't work — this client is capped at 500 characters, unlike every other this app client out there.

Great start

For a v.1 this is great
Much more user-friendly and streamlined than Mast or others, and the first screen that guides you through finding an instance is excellent for new users.

The only reason it is not five stars is Mastodon has been a little slow and buggy (had a weird text issue where it only typed every other letter), and I have had a few crashes but nothing major.

A great start for a needed concept!

Fast but limited options

Doesn't seem to be a way to make posts default to global and not just followers only. Not sure why it's set up like that.

Great App. Better with timelines.

Mastodon is great, and it would be better with a local/federated timeline. The notification page is laggy when loading.

Mastodon is a beautiful app!

this app is a beautiful app. I'm happy to have downloaded it. I am somewhat confused about how to view the local timeline, however.

Needs a share outlet

Gorgeous app, love it, just need a share outlet for when I find things on other apps.

Great app for a great service

This is a nice, elegant little app that lets me connect to what *should* be everyone’s default social media platform, IMHO.

By

No federated/local timelines !

The main cool feature of this app is missing from the official app. You only have the option of viewing your home feed. Please add local and federated timelines!

By

Better than most 3rd party client

Also really need iPad support, thanks!

By

Great app. Needs Local and Federated timelines.

Mastodon is beautifully put together. It’s privacy respecting. And, it’s frequently updated. Who could ask for more? Me! As many other have agreed, please add Local and Federated timelines? Maybe they could be hidden behind an “Advanced” section in settings and be “activated”. Their omission makes Mastodon next to useless for me.

By

hides important features from you that other apps support

Mastodon intentionally hides your instance's local and federated timelines from you, which is a primary way to meet new people on your instance. it's trying to be more like twitter by hiding core features that every other this app app supports. comments others have made about this on the issue tracker have been deleted and discussion shut down, and the lead developer is uninterested in feedback from people who actually use this app. use any other app.

Very Smooth

I think the smooth U.I. compliments the screen of my SE. 😊

By

App limits the instances you can choice from

For some reason, the creators of Mastodon have limited which instances you can log into. It makes no sense why the user is limited to choosing among a small selection of instances.

Where is the local feed and the fediverse

When using this app on browser to have 3 feeds home- people I follow, local- the server I’m on and fediverse- all servers that are federated to the one I’m hosted by. On Mastodon I only have home so am missing lots of content
