Yay My favorite designer is here!

I’m a person that hates change. Modern Folk Embroidery has easily become my favorite designer but I was disappointed to find that Jacob didn’t have physical copies of his designs for sale on his website. I love Silk because it’s so easy to use and now I can stitch designs from my favorite company. I will give you another star if you can get Benvenuti my most favorite chart from Modern Folk Embroidery. Thanks so much for making my favorite designs accessible.

With Some Tweaks, Can Be 5 Stars

First off, let me say I didn’t expect to like Silk but I do! I downloaded it to use for the free Shooting Stars pattern after struggling with the .jpg files they offered via their blog.

I don’t really care about tracking my stitches per day or hours stitched — if that’s your thing, Silk calculates it for you. I do like how it’s easy to “highlight” what you’ve stitched (something I do on physical charts). I also like that there are fabric size calculations and estimates for amounts of floss needed based on fabric count but I wish it would calculate for 28 ct linen (currently stops at 32 ct).

There are a variety of charts available for purchase from a small selection of European designers. I’m undecided if I’ll make future purchases thru Silk or order physical copies. There is a print option via Silk if you feel the need to print a hard copy.

What keeps this from being a five-star app is the lack of syncing between devices. I have been using my iPad to work on a project but there are times I don’t want to schlepp it along with me. It’d be nice if I could open Silk on my phone and have my progress synced. At this point, it’s not worth having Silk on multiple devices.

VERY disappointed!

Silk has a nice idea behind it,but has many limitations!

If you like using a digital chart, it’s nice. Easy to mark off stitches, counts stitches, time, percentage of project complete, etc.

BUT, Silk is only for apple products and will not work with android,pc, etc.
Yes you can print the charts, IF you have an airprinter. There’s no download option so it can be printed from a simple printer.
And if you are somewhere where you don’t have internet access, forget about stitching….Silk will not even open without internet.
And don’t count on ‘all’of the designers to be helpful if you have any issues with their charts! I purchased from 2 different designers before realizing I can’t print the charts OR use Silk without internet. I contacted both designers and explained the situation. One of them sent my purchases by email so I can print them. The other designer told me she only replaces charts purchased from her Etsy shop, and I have to deal with Silk creator for any of her charts purchased through the this app app. So, I’m out the money I paid for her charts…although she got paid. I will NOT be purchasing from this designer ANYWHERE!
And Silk is being deleted now!

Excellent, hope more to come

Excellent app. Hope more designers begin using Silk to sell.
It’s definitely an app to keep around, checking to see if more has been added.
I’m encouraged that Modern folk embroidery has added some of his designs.
Easy to use. Love I can change the colors

Silk Print

I love the fact it can print but I use the computer for marking but sometimes I like to have the cover page in my bag. I use it a lot for comparing my to the original.
Keep up the awesome work.

Lovely Patterns - Easy Access

I nice mix of patterns and great to get them electronically and not wait for shipping. Not able to add your own content, it gives me easy access to a handful of Europe’s designers.

Great platform to access their work!

Easy to use

I’m a new stitcher. I decided to join a stitch along. I love Silk. I would use it on everything, if the charts were available.

Sync issues

Love using on the iPad but there is no sync between my iPad and iPhone. That deft needs to be fixed.

In theory it’s cool

But in practice there’s barely any free patterns, not even basic ones, and all the designs are overpriced and grandma-y. Also could not find a place to make my own pattern layout, which they make it seem like it has.
Needs a lot of work, kicked it off my phone and I wouldn’t redownload unless there were a larger variety of simple free patterns.

Convenient

Great to be able to take stitching with me. Wonderful designers. I would really love to see:
1. Be able to highlight where I am stitching to plan my path.
2. Ability to switch colors from the called for thread.

Silk app

Nice app easy to use but it should let you add other patterns you already bought or have. This could be done even for small fee

Pdf

This so far seems like a nice app with some nice patterns free and for sale at reasonable prices. I would like to have a way to put the pdfs we own into Silk.
