Painfully Bland

I’m stunned to see all the 4-5 star ratings here. Imprint wouldn’t be worth a download if it was free and didn’t carry an obnoxious $50/year price tag. Unbelievable. The “visuals” are entirely nonsensical - a perplexing assortment of shapes and arrows combined with a random word out of the one sentence blurb it is meant to illustrate. The only purpose served is to distract you from the juvenile verbal content.

The *vast* array of less than 20 “books” (many of which I’ve read in full) to choose from effectively reduces the content down to a few dozen repetitive one-sentence blurbs knocked down to a first grade reading level. It’s one thing to seek more convenient means of benefiting from reading books, but if something needs to be abbreviated to this degree for you to read it you should frankly just stick to watching cartoons as there is really no hope for your level of laziness.

I know this was harsh - but come on now.. spark-notes and Wikipedia are free and manage to summarize text without viciously assaulting your intelligence.

… All I can say is: WOW!

I’m trying the 7 day free trial and I am blown away so far. SO ENGAGING! I’ve always been the type that learned better with visuals and short bursts of useful information. This nails it!!! My favorite part? I’ll be reading something awesome and I think… gee this would really help this person in my life… AND THEN IT LETS ME SHARE WHAT IM READING WITH SOMEONE EVEN IF THEY DONT HAVE TO APP!!! Literally - SO COOL! Huge fan so far! Keep it up you guys! Add the 10X Rule by Grant Cardone as soon as you can please! Rich dad Poor dad by Robert kiosaki would be good, and The One Thing by Gary Keller!! My only complaint would be the emphasis on social issues and topics that seem to be found in here… can we keep it to the greatest books and ideas of all time please? Let’s keep politics and social issues out of it!!!

A wonderful alternative to the “mindless scroll”

I am not a fan of any apps except this one, really. When I became depressed last year my first change was to remove social media from my phone and it was a game changer. Screen addiction haunts us all, though, and after a long day we all need some time to unwind. Imprint allows me to do just that and simultaneously fly through books I wouldn’t have the time or energy to read in their entirety. Instead of feeling crappy about my hour of phone time before bed I actually feel really good about it! I am thrilled these developers put such time and intentionality into solving a very real problem in modern society. I will recommend this to everyone I know!

Best app ever

It is so beneficial to society it’s not even funny, we can grow so much intellectually and so much faster if Imprint was widely advertised and used among more people! I swear I have never given an app more respect and dedication and I actually set aside time to use Imprint daily and I have never done that with an app before. I promise it is worth every 100$! Think about how cheap that is relative to what your begging for it?!? It’s insane! Hundreds (I think it is thousands actually but j incase I’m like 50/50 on which one it is) but hundreds to thousands of books that are easily understood I think a 13 year old would get how they explain some of these text. It is so awesome and so worth it!

great concept, bad app

concept is great, but lacking very basic things:
1) search button. seriously no search button? 🙂
2) tab with current book that I’m listening or reading. they are many people like me, when you start reading/listing some book but them decided to switch to another one, but still want to continue some time. in progress tab should be different than saved tab in my view, or at least split by two section, “saved for later” and “in progress”.
3) when you started to read book, and later on when you come back, you must continue to read and you cant play it instead? why 😩
4) why can’t I listen and look at the slides at the same time? I find it extremely good when book is playing and in parallel I can look at pictures for visualization. I figured it out how to do it, but this should be in app functionality 😉
5) program extremely extremely laggy, at least on my iphone X, and my ipad pro 2nd generation keeps crushing, maybe it is better on latest devices 🤷🏻‍♂️

if all that fixed, this would be best abstract reading/listing app, and it would definitely worth pay for subscription, for now I’m not sure if I’m going to extend mine, too much hustle

Not awful I suppose

I feel like information was dumbed down to the point that it was either almost incorrect or actually hard to understand. I "read" the first chapter of 3 books and noted that this wasn't for me but, for those with minimal knowledge on said subjects, it might be a useful tool. I'm used to reading textbooks and sifting through tough material so it could just be I'm not used to this kind of setup. I was hoping that it'd be more in depth. However if you have limited background, say for example you're a business person reading the book - astrophysics in a hurry, it might be useful to you in a beginner level. Not really recommended for intermediate+, like say a business person wanting to further knowledge in anything about business.

Useful, but ironic

Imprint is smooth and responsive. It’s intuitive and yada yada yada. It will make you a smarter and more knowledgeable person for a price. I’ve contemplated this a lot and looked and the statistics and the fact is when education was free, Americans were smarter. You want to take the very thing that’s diminishing our collective IQ and make it a useful tool to educate the masses. I get it but to do that at a price is antithetical to your very mission. You want to make dumb people smarter, dumb people usually have less than everyone else. That’s sort of how it works or has worked until recently. When things were easier and cheaper you could provide it for free. You still can through nonprofit organizations. You could argue that it’s expensive to develop this tech. I’m not arguing that, I’m saying if you want to change the world you have to step up and do it.

Very Pleasantly Surprised

I’m one of those “I never write a review” folks. Also, for years have rejected summary / idea distillation platforms out of hand because I had seen them dumb down critical information in ways that are not productive. Lucid, IMO, is a game changer in this regard. Thoughtful graphics and focus on discrete (but very clearly connected) ideas makes it a compelling way to both learn new ideas and also decide if you want to invest precious time in a book. The psychology of focusing on discrete information blocks is well known and Imprint creators/ product team / devs / everyone else involved has 100% killed it. Best App Store money I’ve spent in a very long time!

So Far, Excellent!

I’m new to this but what a fabulous idea! I’ve just started Lucid and I’m loving it so far. I’d enjoy a few little videos too - but not too many as I feel it’s important to try and stay focused on reading as these days life is one big distraction and it’s important to learn to focus and stay focused on reading as it helps in so many ways. BUT a few educational, short videos would be great. But this is a really great app. I LOVE the chapter reviews where you get to choose an answer to a hidden word as that really helps cement what I’ve learned. And the chapters are such a fun, bite sized size that they’re super easy to read. Really great!!!

weird business model but ok

the cards are just simplistic flowcharts with a sentence beside it. an important sentence, sure. but it basically resembles someone’s notes after reading the book.

here’s my problem: why would i pay for someone’s notes? each book’s lucid thing probably takes like, an hour total to make, not including time reading. the goal of Imprint is to make education more accessible, i thought, but Imprint could probably easily sustain itself on a genuine free business model. even if half of the books were unlocked for free you could still make it work with good unlockable features. but no lol. the whole thing is behind a paywall to the point where it’s stupid that this is even listed as a free app.

my suggestion is to NOT pirate books, do not google “free pdf book title” and look around because that’s bad and you shouldn’t do that.

Navigate to the Point

Quick and easy to learn key points. Most Books are written in ways that are structured with an array of examples that aim to guide readers to the point of a chapters. However, after reading my first chapter with Imprint , I realized that books are not interactive and that the interpretation of a chapter does not immediate have feedback as Imprint does. "In real life" we only have a feedback from what we read in three ways: talking an exam, in group studies, and or while in class discussing the chapter while in class. This method of reading is highly efficient.

A brilliant way to learn…

I often browse Instagram quite aimlessly. In some ways it has replaced channel surfing as a form of entertainment. What I really long for is more meaningful content to transform this mindless scroll into an effective use of time. Lucid has an intuitive user interface, throughly engaging, value add animations and supporting effective consumption of some of the most useful info out there. I find myself putting down Instagram and picking up lucid. My brain, my development, my wife and my life thanks you.

Great product, but can’t use cross devices

The content and learning approach with visuals is great. However, I downloaded and paid for this initially on my iPhone. Now I am trying to use this on my iPad, but have been prompted to buy your product again to continue. There is oddly no Account management area on your app to... manage your account, password, see subscription status, etc. I hope this is coming soon. Giving Imprint 3 stars for now. I will come back and resubmit updated review(s) per progress I see in this regard. I really need to be able to view this on a larger screen on my iPad as I get eye fatigue with the small screen on my iPhone. Thanks!

Just more liberal indoctrination

I am very unhappy that I did not remember to cancel my one week trial before it was too late and I was billed $99 dollars for the year. I took one overarching glance and realized how dumb I was to download Imprint and give it a try. I should have known better. It is just more leftist/liberal ideology and perspective, most of which I do not agree with or care to read. What an epic waste of money. If you want to read and learn stuff that has been written by Michelle Obama and read about things that alarm Democrats like climate change, wearing masks properly, the uninhabitable earth, the sixth extinction, how to become an antiracist, the Big Bang theory and everything else they offer with a liberal twist, you will enjoy Imprint. If not, don’t waste your money.

Doesn't load any content

The menu churns along and eventually displays some options, but when I click on one all I get is a blank screen. I had two thoughts: "Maybe they're having server problems and I should remember to try again later" immediately followed by "that's probably how people forget to cancel the trial that bills a full year at once". I was happy to give it a fair shake for the few cents they paid to send a Facebook ad to me. Based on my trial it seems that it doesn't work and I'm not going to give them more benefit of the doubt with $100 of my money on the line.

Buyer beware: If you can, make sure the content actually works on your phone and OS before paying, because it might not.

Incredible for a visual brain that has difficulty!

I’m thirty years old and have memory loss and some cognitive issues from health complications in the past. I have major trouble processing and absorbing large chunks of information but have so much reading I want to do and so much I want to learn! Lucid has been the perfect solution! I love that I can easily save the “cards” of information for later, and that the content is condensed. Thank you Lucid; well worth the cost…I’m obsessed already!

Lucid is a way to learn while still being visually fulfilled

I like social media because I can lose myself in the entertainment of it all, however, I don’t always feel like I’m learning anything, and it’s a waste of my time, which makes me anxious, defeating the purpose of the practice. Imprint, Lucid, it gives me the satisfaction that I’m looking, and I feel good about it!

To the makers of Imprint, thank you. And to anyone out there on the fence about the platform, give the free trial a try, it’s worth it.

Try it. It’s worth keeping!

I really enjoy the images and main ideas highlighted in each mini chapter. I typically lose focus and interest when attempting to read a whole book. I’m very interested in the topics, desire to learn, and Imprint gives me the nuggets of information I need in ways I can easily process (reading & visual). I’m very reluctant to spend money on subscriptions to apps, but this is worth it. I’ll sacrifice other items in my budget to make room for Lucid.

Always learning!

I’m new to Lucid and I’m enjoying it so far. I look forward to the light getting brighter! It's easy enough to shed some light on the origins of lucid: it derives—via the Latin adjective lucidus, meaning "shining"—from the Latin verb lucēre, meaning "to shine." Lucid has been used by English speakers since at least the late 16th century. Originally, it meant merely "filled with light" or "shining," but it has since developed extended senses describing someone whose mind is clear or something with a clear meaning. Am I clear on how I feel! Love Love Love!

Really like the app. But the icon NEEDS to be updated.

I waited to long to actually use Imprint after downloading, likely because the icon/logo is so boring. This might sound like a silly complaint, but I have so many apps on my phone that when I see something that look like a library logo from 1995, it’s easy to skip over.

Imprint itself is so beautifully designed. The icon is a stark contrast to that. To the developers: please have a designer refresh your logo and icon. As a seasoned UX Designer I predict tons more app engagement if you do this.

Significant tech and support issues

Imprint offers engaging and meaningful content in a unique and helpful way. However, my library disappeared after the last update and there doesn’t seem to be an easy way to request support or restore the purchases. If there is a fix for that Imprint is easily worth it. With no fix or access to previous titles it’s hard to justify the price point.

Edit: seems to have been patched. Could still use a way to communicate.

Great quality but needs more content

I find the summaries and animations great, it really helps with the understanding. I've used other apps for summaries but this one is by far better.

Definitely need more books which I think will be added as time passes but make sure not to sacrifice quality for quantity.

I still believe it's too expensive for the amount of books that it's available but I believe you guys are on the right path.

From a book reader, surprisingly good

I read around a book every month or two, and have always been skeptical of services like cliff notes and even audio books. Stumbled on Imprint and was pleasantly surprised. While you won’t get the depth and detail of the full read, most ppl are unlikely to retain those details a month after reading anyways. This does a good job of conveying the points that you want to stick.

Great App

Don’t usually leave reviews but this is such a great app that I have to. But it’s not going to be some long drawn out review. It’s a great app. Yes it costs but I think those costs can be legitimized when you realize the functionality of Imprint and how effortlessly it operates.

Anyway, the main reason I’m here is to hopefully provide a suggestion of allowing an option for a “night mode” as I like to read at night and the bright white display irritates my eyes. Thanks!

App is great, have some suggested features

Would love to have a note taking section in the saved area. A place to type up reflections or personal conclusions etc. to be kept with the saved cards from each book.

Would like to see description of each book in the home area to make browsing and selection more streamlined instead of having to click on each book then click description. And/or integrate categories.

Love Imprint, it’s a fabulous idea !

Extremely engaging

I’m a content creator and would love to experience Imprint fully. Just not financially viable for me right now. But LOVED the sample I tried! So much potential here. This will lead the edge of app learning. Also, is there a full list of titles available? Need more information as to how much content is accessible. Also, if you need another team member, I’m an extremely creative and well-read Education/Content Creator! Well done with this idea.

Informative and Concise

Imprint broke down the book into meaningful sentences and it felt like I was being instructed by a teacher (versus watching a PowerPoint slide style summary). I’ve always wanted to read The Selfish Gene but could never be bothered reading the whole book. Now I feel like I could teach the concepts to someone else. The quiz at the end of the chapter was helpful and quick so it never got labored. Can’t wait to read more tiles. Five stars!

Fun way to stay engaged with a non-fiction book

I often get bogged down by all the evidence presented in non-fiction that I lose sight of the larger revelations. Imprint narrows down that focus, keeping you engaged so you can be sure you understand the big takeaways the author is getting at without getting lost. It’s like having a great professor guide you through a book. So glad I found Imprint!!

Illusion of Choice

They give you an illusion that you have a choice in books, but you don't. For you first book they give you a choice between two, so you pick one. In 8 days they give you a choice between two more and the book you didn't want to read is there again. By my 4th book my only choices were the same books I had no interest in. So I lost interest and cancelled my subscription.
Still giving it 4 stars as the summaries are pretty good.

By

Super fun way to get the main points from top nonfiction books

Really high quality, visual, fun way to get the main insights from good nonfiction books. There are short sections you can tap through in a few minutes that have great visual explanations of the key points from that chapter of the book. Really helpful and fun; you can learn a lot in a short amount of time.

Favorite App

This is my new favorite app. Last favorite app was BitLife. That’s been my favorite app, since 2015. It’s now 2020. I mean business, for every one of those 5 stars I gave.

I am the queen of app purging. I’ll have an idea of an app I’d like. I download 10 apps that do that thing. Through a process of elimination, I go from none to one app. Most of the time, I decide I don’t need an app for that thing, after all.

Guys! Imprint is not like all the other Cliff Notes style apps. Imprint is the absolute best thing ever!!!! The visuals are super duper helpful.

I’m a program director of two social service programs in Chicago. I’m giving subscriptions to Imprint to all of my employees. Out of my pocket. Imprint is game changing!

Self-help has never been easier

You can read through some of your favorite titles in minutes. The content is engaging and straight to the point. Even if you’ve read the title before it’s a great quick refresher. Looking forward to seeing more titles added!

Formatting issue - I’m in my free trial but am finding text formatting issues on my iPhone. The entitle page of text, especially in post chapter summaries and quizzes is not visible or accessible. Can’t properly evaluate the product substantively when I can view all of the text.

I do not want to have this app for a year. I canceled it, but it charged my card. I am willing to pay for 1 month but not one year. Please cancel my subscription and refund my purchase. Thank you.
