Because I have a passion for people to hear the “old, old story” again … for the very first time. When I see Jesus movies, it’s sometimes hard for me to feel moved or excited. I've heard the stories before, and many Jesus projects just take you from Bible story to Bible story, not spending as much time on the humanity and backstories of all these characters. And they sometimes feel stiff and formal. So when we started to write a show that explores Jesus through the eyes of those around Him, we were repeatedly moved and excited. We explored the backstories of Simon Peter, Matthew, Mary Magdalene, Nicodemus, and a few of Jesus’ miracle recipients, and in turn experienced Him in the way they did. We couldn’t help but identify with their recklessness, rough pasts, religious piety, and desperation for life change. And ultimately, their redemption. One of our favorite responses from an early screening? "The story of Jesus that actually appealed to my teenagers!" No matter where you’re at in your journey with Christ—whether you’re one of the many people in the gospels who encountered Jesus after a horrific past without Him, or you’re a Nicodemus who’s been a lifelong member of the God team—Jesus proved over and over that we have so much to learn and innumerable traits that need change. For the love of God, watch this show!
I have to say, it has always been compelling to see depictions, through film, of Jesus's life. However, I have never seen a production that poured themselves so creatively and faithfully into the heart between the letters on the pages of the Gospel. The Chosen has already blown me away with their nuanced character developments and clever ways they have utilized portraying the true character of Jesus. They have been able to color rich backgrounds and relationships while staying true to the word of God. I can't even make it through an episode without crying, praying, or usually both. The director gave a short intro to one of the episodes while wearing a hoodie that said, "Binge Jesus." I couldn't sum it up better than that (and i want one of those t-shirts). You will be craving more of this magnificent show; more Jesus. I seriously pray that they end up doing the whole bible. Watch this show!

This is so good!
I have watched episodes 1-6 so far, and really love the actors and the characters they play! I am a very visual person and love seeing so many things from The Bible come to life! Yet, this is nothing like any of the Bible portrayals seen in the past! I’ve also watched several episodes several times along with my family, and caught new things I hadn’t noticed or picked up on before! This is just really good, and even members of my family who really didn’t want to watch “anything religious” actually asked me if we could watch more episodes! I was taken back, because I never would have expected this person to ask to see more, but was more than happy to watch more with them! There is something really different about this, and I really can’t wait to see more! Thank you to everyone making The Chosen!!!!

OK, it is easy for me to point out all the little things in this series which are not taken directly from the Biblical account. Sometimes things like that annoy me. For whatever reason. For this series they did NOT. In fact, they did what they are intended to do: make watching this more engaging, enjoyable, and thought-provoking. To see some of the things I have had to imagine in my mind with my eyes does well up emotions for me when I watch the stories unfold. The acting is excellent. There are some non-verbals which are done well. The writing is creative, but doesn’t take away from the central messages of the stories. I think they bring to life the tensions that must have been present in that day, both cultural and political. This is worth your time. I don’t binge watch ANYTHING, but I binged the 1st season.
