Unison singing and what not

PerfectEar is very helpful and can help a lot of people struggling with whatever issue. But my main problem with PerfectEar when I’m doing the chords and melodic training and it tells me to sing or do like la or whatever. If I need it to repeat or hold down on the key it just skips and doesn’t let me play and also like it won’t even let me do it sometimes it just goes to the next thing. Like nothing in the background could trigger it with noise because nothing is happening so I don’t understand this could be an easy fix and help out me and other people with this issue because in all honesty I love PerfectEar and I need that training the most. To be able to sing on pitch and be able to know which way I’m going without it skipping on its own or not being able to fully hear it and get my ear used to the note. Thank y’all!

So far so good!

I love that I have access to so many categories. PerfectEar gives you lessons on Ascending and descending notes, identifying triads, chords, and various intervals by ear.
I do wish there was more explanation as to how to notate different intervals. There’s not much info before you start the lesson. I’ve had some education, so the sections I’ve gone through have been easy enough to figure out. However, when I start getting into unknown territory, I have a feeling it’s going to be guessing games to understand the lessons. The other thing that could improve PerfectEar is identification of number tones in the scale... Ex. PerfectEar plays a scale and asks you to identify the root note. There are a few holes, but overall, it does what it says it does!

I like the app but wasted money on custom exercises

I like to recommend PerfectEar to my music students and recently had a student who wanted to use it to practice reading music for ukulele. So I figured I’d try out the custom exercise editor and pay the small fee. I want to set the range to be C3-C4 which is a standard range for an instrument like ukulele. The only way to get access to C3-F3 is to make the bass clef the lower clef. Which means for any instrument like guitar where you’d read everything lower but still relative to treble clef it will be confusing. So instead of being able to recommend PerfectEar and just suggesting the small charge I have to find something different for my students to use. Really unfortunate because the base app is great but this limitation seems really silly considering you can literally set the instrument to guitar.

Interval singing: great idea in theory ...

But in practice, PerfectEar was really buggy in this mode. More than half the time PerfectEar would answer the question before I had even made a sound, and tell me that I had gotten the question wrong. Also, on a number of the questions where PerfectEar did function correctly, in that it”heard” me and identified what note I sang, it would use the incorrect enharmonic equivalent of the desired note, i.e. after asking me to sing a minor third above B-flat, identifying the pitch I sang as a C-sharp instead of the D-flat that would have been correct. I was looking for something to use with my high school students, but it’s hard enough helping them to understand spelling intervals… PerfectEar could potentially confuse them more, unfortunately.

Love it!

Update (6/24): Love all the existing features and really looking forward to the fretboard trainer! This is quickly turning into one of my favorite apps ever.

Original: I’ve been looking for an app like this for a while now. Was never really fully happy with any of the other apps as I felt that they lacked all the types of exercises that I was looking for.

Keep up the great work. :)

Best I’ve Found, But Not Great

This is the best rhythm training and rhythm sight reading trainer I’ve found on PerfectEar Store. Better still because the devs haven’t gotten greedy and tried to subscriptionize - it’s a verb now - PerfectEar .

But! Difficulty is exaggerated by 1. Distortions in notation when measures visually compressed. Notes and rests displayed over bar lines; and 2. The measure progress/tracking bar gets out of sync with actual time progress. Visual and audio cues to where we are in the measure don’t agree.

For the price, it’s very good. I'd’ve paid an extra buck or two for it to be great.

So grateful!

PerfectEar brings me lots of joy and makes practice less of a chore.
Thank you for providing PerfectEar! I love the pay structure where you can purchase just what you need and you can slowly buy things instead of having to buy it all at once. I could not be more pleased :)
Thanks again!

One of the greatest music education apps available

PerfectEar covers a broad range of music education needs including singing with pitch accuracy feedback, tapping rhythms while reading them with accuracy feedback. This is an absolute bargain for the value it offers. You can use this alone or a teacher could use it with students. I love PerfectEar

Good but not perfect

It’s almost exactly what I was looking for, but there’s small things missing. Like with the rhythm input, you listen for the rhythm then write out the notes to fit what was played. It works fine until they add dotted notes and don’t give you the option to add a dot to the notes you can choose from. Then it becomes impossible to get the correct answer.

Awesome !

I cannot believe how incredibly useful PerfectEar is for on the go and anywhere training - it’s easy to use, has great content and was written by a trained musician who wants to make music training accessible and meaningful instead of unattainable and elitist. Check out the explanations too - the best app ever !

Excellent app for ear training.

PerfectEar is proficient in helping to develop a good ear. The exercises are very deliberate. The only issue I have is with the melodic dictation section. The preview button does not work (which I need to hear the notes I’ve written on the staff). Please fix it!!

Amazing App!

I play guitar and a bit of keyboard and in the short period of time I’ve been using PerfectEar it’s really helped me understand music theory. I’m thinking of going premium but I’m not sure if it’s a one time purchase or a pay every month type of thing?

By

Love the app except interval comparison

It’s mostly impossible to hear the lower note on a phone speaker so there’s after no way of recognizing the interval. Maybe make higher notes quieter or play intervals broken.

By

Great potential

PerfectEar has some fantastic functionality which gives it great potential as a learning tool. But it really needs someone with advanced training in music theory, singing, and education to work on the actual content. I unfortunately can’t recommend this to my voice or theory students until the errors and omissions are fixed!

By

amazing

I’m trying to gain more improvisational skills by getting a feel for how different cadences and chords feel and sound. PerfectEar is absolutely amazing for that. definitely worth the small charge to unlock all features

Work of art 🖼!!!

Well crafted music app , been looking for an app to help keep my ear sharp and rhythm on point but needed to be fun and useful and so far Perfect Ear is just the Perfect place to be to help that happen .

Tapping

The tapping back is VERY CONFUSING!!! Is there a way for you, the developer, to make it clear where or when one is supposed to match the rhythm?? Totally weird the way you have it; also, I bought the upgrade and I can’t access certain features which were supposed to be included. Help?

Sine waves sound terrible on headphones…. A BLUR

Don’t know what happened with PerfectEar. When it plays triads in the low register it sounds like a muddy blur of sound. No way to identify it. I use headphones. I am also a pianist and can identify the same triads when I use a piano. The use of sine waves while devoid of timbre sounds awe full when it goes low. Please fix.

Handy & Seamless

Dependable, efficient layout, simple & practical exercises, no glitches or frustrating experiences, the keyboard’s usable, and the progression of drills is conducive to a well-rounded aural training course.

By

Helps a lot with ear training

This has helped me so much with my ear training class which is actually really hard. It’s like a tutor you can pull out of your purse.

By

Fantastic

Fantastic app that covers a huge expanse of ear, theory and rhythm training. There is currently a bug that causes PerfectEar to crash when selecting the Chord Progression Modulation exercises 1 & 2.

By

Payment Error

I really enjoy PerfectEar but when I attempted to purchase the custom editor pack the game refused to acknowledge that I bought it. Please fix it because I really enjoy PerfectEar !

By

Great App

Fills so many holes in the learning of one who is trying to pick up music on his own.
