About: yeah, we know. there are a ton of apps like ours… but we’re different.

About 1888

basically if you love editing photos of harry styles for your theme page or stan twitter account, you may want to consider premium.

there’s your “i didn’t have to take 23 other pictures and wait 3 weeks to get them all developed and scan them just to post on instagram” photo.

everyone missed disposable cameras, so we brought that experience to your iphone, with one twist: the look and feel of film, with a modern edge.

premium users have quite an advantage, though… they can upload any photo from their camera roll, and so much more.

it’s super easy, too! just open the app, snap a photo, and BAM.

there are a ton of apps like ours… but we’re different.

promise.

we now also offer another in app purchase that allows you to have your 1888 filtered photos printed and sent right to your doorstep, so say goodbye to waiting 3 weeks for CVS to call you back.

Doesn’t work if ur not white!

The quality of 1888 is “cute” for two seconds but the interface is rather horrible. It seems the filter favors a lot towards white people, which would seem like an easy fix if you cared to update you app more frequently instead once a year. The nearly two dollar option to add effects to already existing that are free in better apps is almost hilarious. Not only does 1888 not work as well if you’re POC but I’ve gotta fork out money to edit a photo I took on a different app bc your app couldn’t provide for in the first place. Not to mention not this is the only app that overuses light leak effects without the option of turning them off. I understand a small team built 1888 but their focus clearly isn’t improving it, if it was why has it been a year since you’ve fixed these issues or even updated 1888 at all? All I’m saying is there are better apps for free and cater to your tone if you’re not white.

best camera app.

okay I love 1888. #1 I am wayy too lazy to actually go out and buy a disposable camera. I like to see what I'm taking pictures of rather than limiting everything. it's perfect for hanging out with friends or doing a fancy little photoshoot by yourself. and the fact that I have options to actually print the photos 🥺 it's so helpful and I'm really glad I found 1888. I usually don't post app reviews but I'm so grateful for this one. I told all my friends about it and they love it also. please don't change it it's perfect. the little timestamp in the corner. the fact that it ACTUALLY looks like a disposable camera. and 1888 is free??? I love it so much and I'm definitely gonna keep using it forever. thank youuu!!! <3

I’m in L O V E

This camera has made me fallen in LOVE with disposable camera photography. It reminds me of the times when family members would make you stand still and get ready to take a picture but then at the last second realize the film is all gone and have to wait until they found a camera that would have film in it still. I’ve been waiting for this app to drop since I first saw it on Lindsey’s instagram story. Much love and prosperity for the creators and everyone who has put their whole hearts into 1888 that has made me fallen in love. ❤️❤️❤️

Nice effects, wish there was slightly more customizability.

I notice there is a premium, paid version. Other than being ad free, and allowing you to import existing photos, I’m not sure what else it offers. But the one thing I wish was an option, is to remove the light leak all together. Light leaks are cool, interesting features in film photography. But, after 16 years of shooting with film, I know they don’t show up on every frame in a roll of film. They’re sporadic and random. Usually when shooting into sunlight. I love the grain and color processing of 1888 , but I wish I could either scale back, or remove completely the light leak feature.

BEST disposable camera app

1888 is so great. If you’re trying to decide which one you’d rather let take up storage in your phone go with this one. The description rings true- this one IS different. It exactly mimics a real disposable camera and I’m really excited about the option to order prints. I’m also torn because I know that to keep an app running it needs people to use it but this one is so good I almost want to keep it a secret. Almost. I’d give it 6/5 stars.

room for improvement

I really love the look this gives to my photos, but there’s one thing that constantly bugs me about 1888. It almost seems as if the filters lean more towards light skin..I can take pictures in good and natural lighting and once I think 1888 will make my pictures look good, all it does is make me EXTREMELY orange/red. I’ve seen Lindsay take selfies with 1888 and they definitely suit her skin tone. I just think 1888 should consider different skin tones, and this is coming from someone from medium-light skin tone!! I just hope something changes with this because I love the idea of 1888 .

Love love!

When I first heard about this I was very excited to support a small business, especially with such a high quality, almost professional, filter. I immediately bought the premium because it’s so worth it! Wish there was an update but not sure if that’s going to ever happen. All I really want is to be able to scroll through the pictures in 1888 instead of having to tap on one at a time.

The App is good, the customer service isn’t

1888 itself does take really good pictures and the premium isn’t that much money + it unlocks other cool stuff, such as ordering photos from 1888 . I was really excited to order some photos and as soon as I did it said that there was an error in placing my order and to dm their instagram account, which I did multiple times, and I even contacted them through email and phone calls and not once did they respond but they still charged my card. Overall it’s a good app to take photos but that’s it since their customer service is terrible.

It’s. Eh.

Paid the 1.99 for the premium as well but honestly it’s very eh. It’s a new app of course so there’s PLENTY of room for improvement but the filters are basic and repetitive. I get that it’s random and tries not to be like HUJIcam but the filters in itself don’t bring much with the same light leaks over and over. Was a little stunned I had to pay 1.99 for a basic function of uploading camera roll photos but you know whatever I completely support the start of this new app because I am a fan. I will continue to use this however, hopefully some new fun updates in the semi near future.

WALMART VERSION OF HUJI

i don’t get how this was supposed to be better than huji?..... it’s the same exact thing as huji except you can get pictures that are already on your camera roll & add the disposable camera effects. BUT if you wanna be able to do that you gotta buy the upgraded version 😒 oh & 1888 also includes annoying ads, which you also have to pay for if you want those stupid ads to disappear. do you really expect people to buy the upgraded version just to get features we should’ve got in the first place if you wanted 1888 to be better than huji? because this version is just the exact same thing. DO BETTER.

Crashes

Whenever I want to take a front facing picture with the flash 1888 crashes. It would also be nice to have a feature to be able to turn off the light leaks because sometimes they take a lot of the space. Being able to swipe through the picture gallery on 1888 would be cool as well as a second step before you decide to delete a picture because sometimes you might click the delete button on accident. Overall 1888 is pretty good and the filter makes the pictures look great!

Great app, not so great storage space.

I really do love 1888, and the way it makes my photos look, but it just takes up WAY too much storage space. I had to delete it after only using it for a couple weeks, because it was taking up almost a third of my phone space. I’m not sure how this can be fixed, maybe it can’t, but I do miss using 1888. If I get a phone with more storage in the future I would definitely re-download.

Yes!!!

I LOVE 1888!!!!! It takes beautiful pictures that really add to the moment you are trying to capture. The only thing I would like different is an option to turn off the light effect but I know that is already being worked on so I am giving it five stars!!! I also paid for the premium after using it for a few days to test it out but honestly the free version itself is still amazing!! A++

It’s good

I enjoy 1888 and I believe it’s better than HUJI sometimes. I just wish there was an option to save it as the original photo without the light leak and grain effect in case it goes over someone’s face or an important part of the picture. I understand that you could take the photo on your regular camera first and then upload it but I feel that takes away from the experiencd

Love it but upset

I LOVE 1888 and the photos it takes. However, I had to make room on my phone for an update so I went on 1888 , selected all my photos there, and clicked “save photos.” It said all my photos were saved so I proceeded to delete 1888 . Stupid me, I didn’t check if the photos were actually saved. Only nine photos were saved out of almost 35. I had photos from a sentimental disney trip that I’ll never be able to get back now.

absolutely amazing!

right when i downloaded 1888 , i took a photo and immediately i was in LOVE. i bought the premium and now i upload nice photos to use whenever i can!!

once i even took photos of my brother who HATES getting photos taken of him and he told me 1888 made the photos look really good and made me send them to him :)

10/10 app, everyone needs it in their life!!

Great app but needs a little work

I like 1888. However, the only time I’ll get a decent picture is when I find myself in the perfect lighting. If there’s natural light on my face, the photo makes my skin look extremely white and overexposed. If I go into an area where that natural light is shadowed, my skin comes out a dark red. I have found that the photos I take on the back camera come out better than the front camera.
I do love how the details are really sharp, it brings out my freckles a lot

i adore this app

1888 is AMAZING. It’s the only app I use to take photos. When someone sends me photos that I want to post or use, I ALWAYS run them through 1888 before I post them anywhere. Anyone saying that HUJI does a better job doesn’t understand the look that HUJI claims to achieve because 1888 blows it out of the water. I recommend 1888 to anyone who will listen.

Can't Upload From Library

I was super excited for 1888 to drop to start editing my photos but I don't like that I have to pay to upgrade to be able to edit photos from my library. So sadly unless that changes I won't really be able to use it cause I solely use Snapchat to take my photos. But other then that I love how photos look when I'm taking them with 1888 . I'm so so proud of Lindsay!

Really love it

I’ve been looking for a good app to take pictures on for a while now in which I could add filters or a time stamp etc. I really like the set up of when the picture is being taken and how the filter is added once the picture is taken. I’m definitely going to continue using this!!!
