REFSIX - Soccer Referee app Reviews

Update: REFSIX continues to improve, including better visibility and eliminating the need to enter rosters in advance. I’m up past 100 games, and it’s my go-to in all kinds of weather. The this app team is very responsive to suggestions as well.

I’ve used REFSIX for a dozen games and am very satisfied, though as others have pointed out, it’s most useful when you can get a roster well ahead of kick off. I’ve found that knowing I’m going to see my running stats and heat map has improved my coverage including going deeper into the corners and PA. A couple of additional features would have me thrilled: (1) a way to import and save/edit rosters for future games, 2) a way to export the game data (.txt, .csv) to make electronic game report submissions easier., and 3) an option for making voice annotations for game incidents (e.g., injuries, cards). But for $6/month I’ll definitely keep using it!

I love everything about REFSIX!!! However there are a few key fixtures that I would like to have added.
First will be in line with Fitness history. I would love to see an average distance ran per match to include total career distance. Heart rate should also be included in that fitness data as such approx calorie expenditure.
Second would be the heat map. Though it is a great idea... I would like to be able to move the map circle. Currently the imagery is not very accurate and I have to guess where to place my points for the heat map.
My only gripe with the heatmap is that I do not believe it is very accurate. Within the stats I tend to see missing times in between the distance covered and total distance covered. My Fitbit tells me I cover approx 5.5 miles per game, but the red six will tell me 2.5Km (less than 2 miles). Significant drop off. Additionally the stats for the walking/jogging is also inaccurate. Normally I only walk during stoppages, so to say most of movement is walking is incorrect.
A way to take a picture and have the names automatically inputted it would be a sure fire way to bring REFSIX over the top!!!

Saying “I love REFSIX!,” doesn’t adequately describe my fondness for it. If you’re serious about refereeing football and advancing your career as an official whether you work youth, college, adult amateur, or professional games, you need REFSIX.

Its “green” as it eliminates the need for a book and paper. (Although, I recommend you always carry a pen and something on which to write in case something happens.)

Not only is it a tool for staying organized and composed on the pitch, it’s also one that will provide you quantitative data allowing referees to identify trends, patterns, etc. from the games they work.

I downloaded the free app. Later, I liked it so much that I upgraded to the pro version. The functionality of REFSIX is impressive. It acts as a match timer (count-up and count-down), match record, and match information storage. Furthermore, the pro version records your performance, and you position on the pitch during the match. I love it! Finally, REFSIX creators are easy to contact, and are always updating REFSIX to suit referee recommendations. Just get it. I’m sure you’ll soon agree.

I like so much about REFSIX as it has many solid features already. Since it’s a paid for app I will give my requests for improvements. 1) needs a way to import multiple games into REFSIX . Us weekend warriors who do many youth games is a must. 2). Give the ability to send multiple games to the watch from REFSIX so we don’t have to touch our phone for next match. 3) show distance covered and calories burned on a swipe screen on watch

REFSIX has amazing potential, and I am willing to come back to it in the future, but it fails in two MAJOR areas which make it non-useful in its current form.

1. Game timer feature is bad. Look at any good ref watch and you will see a countdown timer, a count up timer and stoppage time. Instead, most of the main screen is taken up by a giant scoreboard, something that is mostly irrelevant to officials until after the game.

2. REFSIX assumes we get game rosters in advance enough to enter them into the phone. Most games I do, I get rosters 5 minutes before kickoff, if at all. It also limits the number of players to 18 so I can’t even have a template set up for players 1-99. This makes the booking feature absolutely worthless. If a team has one player numbered 19 or higher, this becomes useless.

I’d really like to take a peak at what it does with bio stats it gets from the health app because I think that’s it’s bread and butter. However, I can’t deal with the hassle of running one app for the clock AND REFSIX (I’m not even sure it’s possible).

Im really enjoying REFSIX ! I was just wondering if it could be added for other variants of soccer.

For example
I ref Indoor soccer a lot and in a lot of places there’s a blue card which is a step under yellow (3B=R, 2B= Y, 1B+ 1Y = R). If there was a blue card function or option added that would be amazing!

I like REFSIX . It works well has some really nice features and is easy to use . Some improvements I would like to see are more color options for teams and have the option of using my finger print to sign into REFSIX . On the team colors I would like to see a contrasting back ground when black is selected as a color. I will probably stop using REFSIX as the cost is too high at $6 per month. I can’t buy a lot of note pads and pens for that money. The convenience of REFSIX is not worth the price. It does not completely eliminate the need for a notebook on the field.

REFSIX is as key to your matches success and long term development as anything else in your bag. Being able to load rosters and track game events definitely assists in filing the game report. The Stats screen showing location and time of events along with sprints gives a deeper understanding of my match performance. You get more from the Pro upgrade then you will spend.

I’ve been using REFSIX for a couple years now and it just keeps getting better. The developers actually listen to the users and make improvements regularly. The amount of data you can extrapolate from REFSIX is like no other and I’ve used every referee app out there. I’m sure as the Smartwatches continue to evolve REFSIX will be even better to use on the pitch. Keep up the good work!

Paid for an entire year and was not able to get all the features to work. Asked many times for help, got one initial response that said they would fix, but they never did. Have reached out multiple times since then and no response. Thought I’d give it one more try after letting my subscription expire. Just signed up for one month and still do not have the features of PRO. So, use the free version, but PAY AT YOUR OWN RISK. And don’t expect to receive any support.

I’ve now been using the pro version of REFSIX for about 4 months and have found it to be very comprehensive whilst remaining easy to use. I also love it that the developers welcome and respond to feedback which genuinely shapes future updates. I would find it hard to go back to my old notebook and pencil!

Paid for the Pro but was unable to use it this past weekend with my app. Every time I would record a goal, the timer screen would go blank and then I couldn’t do anything on REFSIX . Luckily I had a regular watch with me to make sure I had a watch no matter what. Hopefully this gets fixed soon as I have a few tournaments coming up that I would like to use REFSIX for

The fix for WatchOS 6 in the latest this app release broke the touch screen so that it can only be used to stop and start time during the match for WatchOS 5.3.3. The developer advised to upgrade to the latest WatchOS 6, which is not possible if you are using an iPhone6 or earlier which REFSIX indicates it supports. No follow up response from REFSIX developer. Please fix!

REFSIX is worthy of a 4 start review and worth the subscription, but not until this bug is fixed.

I used to have trouble trying to manage my Apple watch and my referee watch at the same time, but now I don’t have to worry about it. I hated keeping a book, and REFSIX makes it simple and not complicated. I love it!

I love REFSIX. It makes keeping track of and reviewing my games easy. Game reporting and misconduct reports are a breeze too with the tracking features. I can’t imagine reffing without it!

Tried this out for a few games and was impressed with the ease of use once you figure it all out. Keeps track of everything you need during a game. No more paper sheets

I’ve been using REFSIX for a few months now. It’s absolutely wonderful! Easy to use!

Join their Facebook page for updates on updates! And they are willing to hear your suggestions and implement most! Usually within a few weeks.

Well worth the money!!!!

No complaints, anytime I think of a possible improvement either they have been working to fix it, or they quickly reply and let you k ow they are willing to work to improve.

Finally someone has created a great working soccer referee app for the Apple Watch. Works great! The feedback and support team are even quick to respond! Looking forward to future updates.

This is a great app. Would love to find a way to upload rosters bs having to type. Also lately after sending a game by email app will not let me go back in REFSIX to review previous results or add matches.
