I love it but…

So I love AppleMusic it’s amazing you can find almost any song you want, you can browse songs you like, and they custom make playlist that they think you’ll like and they’re pretty good most of the time. But there is a couple glitches that any me out of my mind 1: it doesn’t always add the music to the queue when you click the play next button. 2: sometimes song will randomly freeze and not play and you have to mess around and skip that one and go back to it and it’s pretty annoying 3: recently theres been something that I’m not sure has something to do with my time restrictions but I’ve had them since I got AppleMusic and I’ve never had this problem. There are certain songs that I cant listen to and they “cannot open” and “this content is not authorized” the songs have not been taken off Apple Music I have checked and they are all appropriate and not explicit. Thank you for putting your time into reading this, and if you are the developer please do tell me how to fix these problems (also is there are any typos I am terribly sorry) EDIT: I deleted and reinstalled AppleMusic and still the same problem. My mom thinks we might have to reset my iCloud account and tell it that I’m older than I really am. Not very happy.
EDIT#2: my whole family is having the same problem, I am not very happy and neither is the rest of my family.

Feedback

1. Instead of a “Sort” button on the playlists page, just make it an edit button. So we can arrange playlists how we want and delete old ones quickly.
2. When adding a song to a playlist, please stop having a box pop up and take up half of the screen. This is just annoying when you’re trying to add several songs quickly, you have to wait for the box to go away.
3. When you tap on a playlist, please make the album cover of the playlist four album covers like how it looks on the playlist preview screen. Just one artist’s album cover looks weird for an entire playlist of several songs.
4. I really can’t see the difference between the first three menu options “listen now,” “browse,” and “radio.” I never use these and they basically just do the same thing.
5. I don’t understand why the “library” and the “playlists” are separate. Why when I make a bunch of playlists, none of these songs are saved to the “library,” and now I can’t use the library functions like looking up songs by album or artist? What’s the difference?

Music app not playing correct songs

When I click on a song to play it plays a completely different song. I’ve had Apple Music before in the past and never had any problems. I upgraded my plan with Verizon to include Apple Music and AppleMusic is all buggy. It is constantly asking me to sign in with my Apple ID even though I am already signed in. Then it brings me to a page that says “an error has occurred try again.” When I click on try again nothing happens. I finally unenrolled my subscription with Verizon and reenrolled and it fixed that problem however the music is still not syncing correctly. Example I went to play a song in the top hits categories. I believe it was a lil nas x song but what was playing was some sort of rock song not really sure what it was but the lyrics obviously weren’t matching up. Tried to click on a different song and that same rock song was playing. I’ve done all the updates and went through all the troubleshooting steps with Verizon and Apple and it still hasn’t been fixed. I’m hoping for a new update that will maybe solve this in case anyone else is having the same issue.

Update the UI on iPad

AppleMusic is great and the music is really good quality. The playlists are awesome and play a lot of songs I like and it doesn’t get as repetitive as other streaming services. The one thing that bothers me in the latest iOS versions is that the UI is really blown up and a waste of space on a big screen iPad. It would be awesome, on this Retina display, to have the ability to change the organization of your app’s layout. I would like a more detailed screen layout more like the music app in earlier versions of iOS, like iOS 5. I used an iPad first generation after many years and the music app looks so much better on previous versions. I get the whole look of iOS 15 and how it’s supposed to be more visually appealing, but I think scrolling and clicking excessively through a bunch of oversized icons is annoying. I want an iPad not an oversized iPhone. The screen is large enough to not have to open a whole new screen and make the user click or swipe extra times to go back.

I miss iTunes

The Music app is terrible on iPhone. Crossfade continues to be none existent. And on the subject of crossfade, the pause between songs what is that? We sometimes get up to 30 seconds between songs when our devices are online up to 15 when they're offline. Why? If we're listening to music on an old mp3 player that plays apple music files without crossfade turned on the time between songs is 3 - 5 seconds not 1/2 a minute. For some unfathomable reason Apple thinks everyone wants to see updated versions of artists (not everyone wants this, I certainly don't). Some of us are fine with album cover art. Apple continues to blast music the moment we plug any device into any vehicle which leaves us scrambling trying to turn the music app off for blissful silence or just to please continue an ongoing converation or even better listen to an important news/weather report. It's like with every update AppleMusic gets worse.

By

Good app, but a couple things could be fixed.

As much as I love Apple Music, it is slightly upsetting that they do not have a crossfade. I don’t like the gap that it has between the songs, the silence can get irritating when you’re in a really good mood and enjoying the music. So, I think that they should add a crossfade. Another thing, out of the blue, it’ll randomly cut out. My phone is completely updated and has been. So whenever i’m trying to listen to a song, it randomly cuts out. It gets pretty annoying after it happens multiple times during one song. Also, whenever I try to download a song or playlist, it doesn’t always down or add it to my library. That’s also pretty annoying because I very rarely find a playlist that I like all of the songs in, so whenever I am trying to find that playlist again and it’s not in my library, I have to scroll through recommended playlists again; but overall it is a good app, but it needs a little improving.

By

Fine I guess

Let’s start with the positives. The playlists are really great! And the browse tab is a good place to discover what’s popular and find a few new things too. But, there are a few things that ruin the experience.

It’s been at least two years at this point, from iOS 13 to iOS 15, where whenever I add a song to a playlist it’s a 50/50 shot it actually gets added or not. This is definitely a bug related to iCloud Music Library that needs to get worked out. Also, when queueing songs by selecting Play Next, there’s a 20% chance they don’t actually play next and are added a few songs down on the queue. And lastly, I wish I could delete songs from my library without also removing them from my playlists.

Other than that, the songs that are suggested are generally songs I like, and every so often I Shazam a song that isn’t available on Apple Music but that isn’t a big deal. Good music suggestions, but AppleMusic itself needs some work.

By

Too many bugs!

1) AppleMusic won’t remember the last song or playlist that I was playing even if I don’t close AppleMusic , just switch to another app for a minute or so and it forgets what I was listening to.
2) When listing to a playlist, some songs will just play with no sound for the entire song or for the majority of the song. I’ll have to hit pause and then play to hear the music. What is that?
3) Some songs in a playlist don’t play. They just get skipped for no reason. Come on, what’s the point of a playlist of it’s gonna skip random songs and play others with no sound?
4) When I use the Shazam app from control center, it doesn’t recognize my subscription and when it redirects me to the Apple Music app, even though I am signed into my active account, Apple Music still tries to get me to subscribe all over again. How does AppleMusic itself not know to not ask me to subscribe when I am already subscribed?

I checked my phone to see if it’s updated and came here to see if AppleMusic needed an update and nope, both have the most recent versions. This is in addition to many other native apple bugs. Apple uses to make things that just worked without the need to set up too much and very few bugs if any years ago. Now it seems like apple forgot to focus on it’s software and I don’t enjoy using the products anymore. Feels like I’m using windows again many years ago.

Decent but behind the times

Has all the music you could want, a slick design, and basic features but it still feels like Apple Music is just checking the boxes for a basic music player. There are no real stand-out features separating it from the competition. Using it day-to-day it is easy to see the glaring flaws that keep it in second place.

There is a song queueing system, but it isn’t practical in use. The way it is handed by competitors and by the Mac music app, where there is a play next and a play later and both are played before the rest of the playlist, is the ideal way to handle this feature. And when you do add music to up next or the library there’s a huge obstructive pop-up for each and every song.

Dolby Atmos is also overly hyped and mostly just a gimmick that does not improve the vast majority of songs. They sound better on stereo since that is how they were originally mixed. Maybe this will change in the future when songs are truly mixed in Amos, but for now the feature stays off for me.

The real redeeming quality of Apple Music is its integration with iOS. It’s great to use with the Apple Watch and during workouts. The live album artwork is also gorgeous, but it doesn’t show up in the library tab!

TL;DR: Apple Music mostly checks boxes. There are the beginnings of what could be stand-out features, but most of the implementation is lackluster.

Can you imagine any other business…

…that would ask to photocopy your address book before making a purchase? Why is it that I have to create a social profile, share my contacts without any privacy option to deny access (like with a third party app), opt out of periodic contact scraping, opt out of a fully public profile, opt out of playlist sharing, and opt out of sharing my listening history. I just want to share one playlist with one friend. If Apple wishes to monetize my personal data, y’all should be paying me, not the other way around. Apple, please apply your own rigorous privacy standards to your own apps. Lossless Atmos content sounds great though! … Update: friend’s follow request is simply not getting pushed; COMPLETELY UNABLE TO SHARE PLAYLISTS. 😡

And not to go off on a rant but Sonos integration is terrible. Sorry Apple, I don’t want a mic’d speaker in my home; I’ll never by a home pod anything, and frankly it’s kinda jerky to have a business model that aims to drive hardware sales through crappy integration with third parties. 😡😡

It’s 2021 and so many improvements needed

A few off the top of my head: 1.) still not able reorder playlists according to date added. I’m pretty sure Apple Music is the only service that doesn’t offer this. 2.) the ability to search song within playlist! 3.) can’t save created radio stations. 4.) it doesn’t matter how much I dislike a certain artist/band/song, they will still be blasted at me in recommendations. Almost as if hitting the dislike button doesn’t actually do anything at all. 5.) for god sake…and also assuming it actually is doing something….put a simple 👍 or 👎 on the now playing screen to simplify the recommendation tayloring, right now you make your user take an additional unnecessary step but hiding them in the 3 dot menu. 6.) block artist option. 7.) allow us to edit our preferred artists/bands (like when first setting up Apple Music. I’m sure there are more other users can suggest but those are the ones that grind my gears

Not great but usable

App needs a better shuffle algorithm. When shuffling your entire music library it should not play songs back to back by the same artist. I have Over 50 artist with multiple albums released and for some reason when I use shuffle library it will play three Halsey songs back to back or three twenty one pilots songs back to back, shouldn’t be a thing. Next , There should be a way through the mobile app to exclude songs entire albums and even artists from the shuffle, I know that you can do this from the desktop application but that is really not efficient, I shouldn’t have to move from one device to another. Next The Apple Music app needs better way for users to find new music, it be cool if there was a button you could click on a song where it would create a station but it would only play songs that are not in your library.

It is the best app but…

This is the best app I love it so much I use it every day to play myself music it is such a good app that I I can even send to my speakers I also use the Sonos app to send music to my speakers but why does it reverse to tell you how good this is this is one of the best music apps that I’ve ever had for Apple you did a great job on this yes so this is a very very good app there’s only one problem sometimes when the subscription says it’s going to last me like a year and only asked me like a half a year so it’s all speed to get more subscriptions every year what I have on a yearly subscription as for my family because we all use Apple Music or Apple maybe you could fix that that would be great that would be great

Payment issues but like the app:

I like AppleMusic . I had it for awhile now. I had stopped purchasing songs due to confusion of payments between my bank and my iTunes account. Yesterday I purchased 9 gabby dollhouse songs for my granddaughter for 99 cent each. I looked into my bank account and again it was taken out of my bank acct. I looked into my iTunes account where I keep money in for this sort of thing and this purchase was taken out of there as well. 9 songs each out of my iTunes and my bank acct. That’s a huge problem for me. So I might as well transfer my money out of my iTunes acct back into my acct. Now I think I better check where my monthly payment is coming out of my iTune or bank or both. Maybe company can clear this for me with a number to contact them. Other than that I still have been purchasing my monthly payment so far.

Love the app but have to switch now

I’ve been a huge advocate of the Apple Music since when it came out primarily due to the UI and it’s user friendliness. Also the music pool is so good with almost every indie music on the market. Biggest issues I had that ultimately made me switch:

1. I cannot share my playlist- For ppl who love music, this is love language to them. To share playlists. This is a fun part of building playlist as well at least for me. The problem is no one around me has Apple Music and the system is very anti to potential subscribers. I had to add my Apple Music playlist to a different app playlist, which is double my time and ended up thinking of changing to a different app.

2. I thought of going back to Apple Music due to its superior quality of music selection and better UI. Then, I realized that if you resubscribe, your 5+ yr old playlist is long gone. Not only is Apple Music very hard to convince potential subscribers to join, it’s even harder to allow past subscribers to come back for this sole reason.

I’m writing this review in hopes that Apple Music fix these kind of issues so I can potentially come back as a subscriber. But my gut feeling tells me that Apple Music will never change and it will probably lose its battle against other competitors.

It’s alright.

AppleMusic is cool and has lots of music to search for (mainstream music mainly) I wish they had more of the obscure bands I am searching for. It does find a few but only has singles or it can’t find the artist. So that’s a big bummer for me.
Some music will glitch the crap out and scare the living $***t out of you! That was a big disappointment and the album won’t even play the rest of the album (Nirvana-In Utero. Not the deluxe version) some songs that play will just cutoff also! Leaving me to think. ‘Did my phone die or my AirPods Pro die’ nope just skips to another song. I do not like that at all.
I have disliked songs that come up and the algorithm will still play music like it! Like what’s up with that?
I don’t know what else to say other than, I’m still trying to like AppleMusic and hop they can fix these bugs, glitches and hopefully curate more to the listeners that run into these issues. C’mon Apple!

Music app used to work with CDs I own.

Lately there are more and more songs from CDs I own that are greyed out when trying to play on my iPhone. I am able to play them on my laptop but once I move them onto my phone, the music app says they’re not available in my region as if somehow I’ve moved regions and only some of the songs from the same CD. There seems to be no concern about fixing this since Apple Music only benefits from people buying songs they already own from the Apple Music store. I expect they will end up not being able to play any songs from CDs but will expect you to buy everything from their store. Nice that AppleMusic comes preinstalled but the more you try to control peoples choices, the more they will be forced to choose other music apps and possibly other phones altogether. Apple, you may make some things well but if this is by design, then you’re making the wrong choice and will end up driving your customers away.

Needs Improvement

Need the ability to pin playlists
Needs a better handoff between devices. A button to press inside AppleMusic to select the device you want to stream from and it takes over from that point in a song (like the rival service offers) instead of having to fiddle with control center and get harassed about another device already playing music.
I’m fully updated on iOS and some songs are still stopping at the 15 second mark (the timer keeps moving, but there’s no audio). Tried force quitting and restarting AppleMusic , deleted all downloads and re-downloaded, issue persists.
New Music recommendations (for me) are not good. No matter how many times I dislike a song, it or something similar is constantly recommended to me. I make sure to love the songs I really enjoy to get better recommendations, but it still seems like random things are offered to me. I’ve used Apple Music since it was released and it’s like the service has no idea what I like even though I like or dislike everything I listen to.
Related to dislikes, we need to be able to dislike an artist (like on the green competitor… “I don’t like this artist”).

It does look nice though. And besides the occasional song pausing that I mentioned earlier, it works pretty well.

Great Music App

Add the ability to cross fade songs, give you the ability to automatically download your entire library when you switch phones, and fix the pesky “content not authorized” error. Other than that, pretty great app, plenty of radios with what seems like a diverse set of music and since they’ve added the feature to keep playing songs once your queue runs out has been wonderful. It doesn’t work too good all the time as I put one song in queue and it doesn’t even match the style of music I was listening to at all but it’s not too much of a problem. Definitely happy to see the feature to listen to music with more than one person, super excited for that.

Can be used as spyware!!

I have no music app yet it shows that it is listening to me and playing on another iPhone thru airplay which is turned off along with Bluetooth from settings! Now my browser redirects me and this is a new phone! I had same issue in other iPhone 12pro that apple took 9month to determine I was compromised thanks to my diligence in screen shots and app analytics sent to apple. The first notification is usually a browser reroute then a pop up will come QUICKLY so you only see the warning of connection IF your on ur iPhone. Do not use AppleMusic if you have a stalker!!

If you want in on the class action suit due to sideloaded app updates and remote access thru apple fake codes to verify identity and or any other malicious or suspicious activity you see! my lawyer is actively working on the case against apple due to these app security flaws and apple not allowing outside apps to monitor there ios. This will be the 2nd suit for similar activities ignored by apple! Apple has to turn over ALL events which never leave the iPhone even with a iOS restore, warrants will be issued to obtain. Check out data saved by apple under police requests for the info that is being stored.

Or ask for your icloud info to download and you will confirm spyware when it won’t allow you to download any Apple iTunes media info.
Help the community fix this flaw!

Change it back, please

Whoever thought it was a good idea to change the functionality from “scroll down to adjust settings” to “click this hamburger icon” should be disciplined.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about: go to the podcast app, play something you’d like to hear, then scroll down. Notice how when you scroll down everything is in a place that you can easily find and your eyes make less movement? This is a user-friendly function of AppleMusic .

In contrast, in Apple Music, you have to click the hamburger icon, then your eyes need to travel to the top of the screen to turn on repeat or shuffle. This is a poor design choice. The Music app USED to work like the podcast app and then they changed it and it has sucked ever since. Please, god, change it back.

Form over function

Apple’s design cred has been on a downward trend in recent years, focusing more on aesthetics and making things pretty instead of actually useable. This is no more apparent than the Music app. There is well established UX research that demonstrates proper application of grid views over list views and Apple completely ignores this in the Music app, putting heavy emphasis on irrelevant album covers. It’s terrible. Grids views from a UI standpoint are supposed to encompass whole categories, and be familiar to the audience. I don’t know remember what 1000s of album covers in my own music look like, nor am I familiar with the album covers of new music. I have the iPhone mini so I can only see -at most- 4 names of songs at a time. It’s so bad I just went with a 3rd party app. Apple, please stop trying to reinvent the wheel and be flashy. Focus on the function of AppleMusic - finding and playing music so your users don’t have to wade through screens full of album covers.

Downloaded Songs Stop Playing/Incomplete

I am so sick of this issue, it ruins the whole app. The rest of it is fine. But this is awful:

Most of my favorite downloaded songs in my library just stop playing after exactly 15 seconds, as though they didn’t download properly. Rarely, but occasionally, it’s at a different point in the song. But often at exactly 15 seconds.

Then, other songs don’t play at all even though they’re downloaded (recently…and showing as downloaded). And a lot of songs have issues continuing to play when dropping an Internet connection (like switching to airplane mode about to take off) even though they’re downloaded, but as though they’re being steamed.

Very, very annoying when pretty much every flight over the last two years (latest iOS updates including iOS 15 haven’t fixed this) involve listening to whatever one or two songs on the album my iPhone decides to let me listen to all the way through. Unacceptable for paying for a subscription every month, especially when a good chunk of these songs are ones I put into my library years ago from CDs I actually own, etc. And yes, I’ve tried deleting downloads and redownloading. It works sometimes, but has issues for many songs even still after redoing the process, just like the original downloads.

Apple, please fix this.

Please do these things.

A few off the top of my head: 1.) still not able reorder playlists according to date added. I’m pretty sure Apple Music is the only service that doesn’t offer this. 2.) can’t save created radio stations. 3.) it doesn’t matter how much I dislike a certain artist/band/song, they will still be blasted at me in recommendations. Almost as if hitting the dislike button doesn’t actually do anything at all. 4.) for god sake…and also assuming it actually is doing something….put a simple 👍 or 👎 on the now playing screen to simplify the recommendation tailoring, right now you make your user take an additional unnecessary step but hiding them in the 3 dot menu. 5.) block artist option. 6.) allow us to edit our preferred artists/bands (like when first setting up Apple Music) I’m sure there are more other users can suggest but those are the ones that really grind my gears.

Works well enough. Good features but lacking a huge feature.

I like Apple Music when it works. It can be buggy with things like songs stop playing after 15 seconds, or radio stations just skipping through songs. There are some other things I wish they would add, like having a section for radio where you could add stations you like. Having a way to be notified when new hosted radio shows would be nice too. Overall it’s good but it’s missing something extremely important to me.. Apple Music for windows. ITunes is the only app for windows and it’s missing some of the biggest reasons why I subscribe to Apple Music - Lossless and High Res audio quality.

Why my HomePod keep playing the same music?

I don’t like Apple Music that much because whenever I’m playing music ‘different days’ is always playing the same songs and that gets me bored. That’s why most of the times I just cancel my subscription, Like why I don’t get suggestions from the artists I like? From the music I already bought? Why if I setup my Apple Music profile to listen to the artists I choose I keep getting artists that I don’t wants to listen to? That’s why I rather buy the songs I like “even though it is more expensive than paying 10 dollars monthly but I hate when something that I’m paying for it gets me bored. It is the same when listen on my originals HomePods or Apple TV. I’m canceling my subscription again before getting billed

By

You purposefully made it worse for non Apple Music users

I have a very big itunes and cdrip library and before ios 13 i could just tap the artist name from anywhere to get to the artist library, or the album name to get to the album... Now it just redirect me to their apple music page which is useless if you dont have a subscription. Sometimes you cant tap it at all. Also removing artist/playlist/album tabs at the bottom just to make room for apple music stuff is very insidious. You leave no option for people who dont use your AM. You are taking away user friendly features to promote your services. AppleMusic since ios13 has been consistently getting more unintuitive and unfriendly to non apple music user and people like me are punished into using an inferior app just because we cant subscribe.

Great service, less than great UI

I love Apple Music, I use it literally everyday! But there’s always something wrong when it comes to the UI. Album covers won’t load, I’ll add a song to my playlist and it won’t actually add it, it’ll sometimes take a second to skip/play/pause songs, etc. The service is great but the UI is lacking the usual quality Apple gives most of its other apps. Like most of these problems have been around for a long time now without ever getting fixed. Once Apple fixes these problems and new ones stop popping up as often as they do I’ll give Apple Music 5 stars.

By

Features missing

Please add actual like and dislike buttons. The system you have now does not work. When I tap “suggest like this” the same type of songs still play. Bring back the genius feature you had when you introduced Apple Music. I want to generate playlists within AppleMusic that live update. Add the ability to save and download radio stations . Start recommending Beats 1 stations in for you based on the user’s listing habits. The ability to download all songs at once.

Embarrassing App For a Good Sevice

There are so many problems with AppleMusic it’s embarrassing. It’s like it was designed by people who don’t use it. My number one complaint is how it treats Play Later. If you’re in the middle of an album or playlist, Play Later will add to the very end rather—rather than after the Play Next’s but before the rest of the music. This makes it incredibly frustrating to queue up music. It did not used to be like this. It use to work like Spotify’s queue. Would love to see this functionality revert. Also we still don’t have shared playlists?? The actual music service is good though and I appreciate their commitment to artists.

By

Please give this service more attention

Apple needs to give this service some more love. It’s come a long way from when it first came out, but some basic features are seriously lacking:

Please allow me to sort my music with playlists on AppleMusic (via artist, add date, alphabetical, etc.)

When I delete an entire album I downloaded how about we not remove any of the songs in said album from all my personal playlists?

Provide us some sort of download bar or something that shows the status of music being downloaded/updated

When we switch to lossless/Dolby how about when the setting is turned on all the eligible music auto updates?!?! Why do we need to go to every individual thing and update it ourselves?

If I turn explicit music on please make it so all the music is explicit. Some of your curated playlists are unusable to me. For instance Eminem essentials…some songs are explicit while others are edited…W.T.F! This is the case for many other curated playlists like workout ones. Makes me not want to use them

Good overall but annoying sometimes

The personal recommendation is trash, if you listen to some meditation lists on your HomePod once, you’ll get a full list of them in your New Music Recommendation. I know you can turn off the listening history but come on, those white noise and nature songs should be excluded from the personal recommendation automatically.

Also it takes forever for all the arts and lists to show up.
