Cant start the game!

The help bubble that shows up right as you start says you can change the control scheme in the settings. But there is no control option in settings. Worse still, the on screen directional pad vanishes. Not hides, completely GONE, making the game utterly unplayable, which is a shame as this is just the sort of game I wanted to play, and it looks beautiful too.
Game will not start

I select a save slot to begin the game but the game never starts it just goes blank and the app just quits every time. It ask if I want to see the prologue and it never shows anything. It just quit s!

I have an ipad mini 3 with ios 12+.
The game lets me choose a slot, starts with a spinning icon, then goes blank and crashes to desktop.
Apple says I need ios 10 or better, which I have.
Other than that, a really nice game.
