I read the negative reviews here and feared I’d made a poor investment on my Mitsubishi system with the Kumo Cloud. I called my contractor to hear how their customers have experienced the systems. My contractor assured me that they customers have been very happy with the WiFi controls. I took the leap of faith and I’m grateful I did. My house is old, a four floor four square. I’ve used windows units that damage my windows and get accidentally left on for days by kids. Within hours of having the app installed, I’d set up sophisticated programs to keep my zones on and off based on how we live in this magnificent old house. The first cycle went on as programmed and the house is so comfortable. I’m impressed. Some suggestions — the program schedule could have better views. A more intuitive by zone or by head view would be a great option. Also, sorting the programs in the default view by time would be helpful. The size and placement of the navigation and save buttons in the upper corners is a problem on iOS. I have not been able to add a zone to simplify control of the two heads on my second floor.

I have updated my router wifi password and when trying to connect all my adapters to Kumo Cloud with new password, I am getting message “There was an error communicating with the adapter. Please ensure that your WIFI credentials are correct and try again”. I can ensure my credentials are correct and tried on multiple different adapters for mini splits and still does not connect. Please Fix ASAP. Update: I went to even buy another router and still cannot connect. Mitsubishi / Kumo Cloud needs to be exposed for this nonsense. $600 in wifi adapters and still does not work. 2nd update: Kumo Cloud has been finally fixed to allow connection to router. Updating to 2 Stars, could be higher rating (4) as the app needs updating their interface and how Kumo Cloud would allow mesh router connection on same SSID for 2.4 and 5 ghz.

Do the app developers test on IoS? Because the control buttons (“back, etc) literally overlap the Iphone search button, so half the time you attempt to select a Kumo control button, you select the IoS search function, which closes the app screen. Terrible design which is presumably easy to fix, but has never been fixed. Second big issue is the app typically fails to connect with one or more mini split units (I have 8 connected). Not sure if this is a controller issue or app issue, but result is you cannot control a group if a unit within a group cannot connect. Why is this? If a device does not connect, the group should still be controllable. Anyway, fix this app, please. I spent a lot of $ on the wifi controllers, not knowing the app renders them totally unreliable.

The app provides a very basic functionality - you can set a mode (heat/cool/dehumidifier) , fan speed a pretty much all. Any other settings like blade position, I-sensor etc are not accessible. You can also set some basic scheduling. While the signal is great it still takes 20-30 seconds to connect to the unit and get the information. The app also has some glitches, like back button being positioned too close in the corners and not registering the presses. In any case it looks like a prototype rather a solid product. This is quite disappointing given $200 for the WiFi unit.

Mitsubishi make great equipment. The mini-split system works well, is quiet and efficient. But the controller interface is from the 80s. They still expect you to use a wall mount setback thermostat with their equipment. And when you add wifi and kumo cloud to that, they don’t even work together nicely. Everything about design the UI and architect this cloud solution and the control mechanism is terrible. I read about the negative comments date back to 2019 and thought that they must have improved it significantly by now. But no, it really is that bad. From a previous user of ecobee or nest, this is like going back to the stone ages. Setting the expectations, if all you want is to turn on and off, or set the temperature remotely, this may work for you if you don’t mind the flaky connection (reporting errors more often than not). If you are coming from a smart thermostat like ecobee or nest, this will be so shockingly bad that you would question whether you have made a mistake in purchasing a Mitsubishi system. My advice to Mitsubishi, please think carefully about the user experience. You may have the best equipment out there, but if your user interface is as bad as the kumo cloud, you are really doing a big disservice to yourself. May be you can consider licensing or work with ecobee to come up with a package solution that work with air handler and ductless head units.
