Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers, but also one of the most preventable. The UV Index provides a daily and hourly forecast of the expected intensity of ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, as well as sun safety tips, to help you plan your outdoor activities. Some exposure to sunlight is enjoyable. However, too much sun can be dangerous. Overexposure to the sun's UV radiation can cause immediate damage, such as sunburn, and long-term problems, such as skin cancer and cataracts. It is important to remember that people of all skin types need to be protected from overexposure to the sun. Make checking the UV Index part of planning your day and remember to slip on a shirt, slop on some SPF-15 + sunscreen, slap on a hat, and wrap on sunglasses to protect against the sun. The UV Index is brought to you by EPA, the National Weather Service, and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
