Fix the App

This Barnes & Noble app is full of glitches and bugs. It doesn’t keep you signed in if you close BarnesNoble , and half of the time will sign you out even if you haven’t closed BarnesNoble . BarnesNoble doesn’t save your local store location. It always changes its location to Hamilton. BarnesNoble is slow as a snail. If you select a book you want to view on BarnesNoble , and then go back to view the list, it jumps back to the top of the list. When you put an item in your cart from the wishlist, it leaves to the cart, and you have the select your wishlist from the side bar if you want to go back to your wish list to add more books to your cart. When you delete an item from your wishlist, it reloads the whole page, taking you back to the very beginning of your wishlist. Between all of this nonsense and the extreme slowness of BarnesNoble , it makes for an unenjoyable experience and a complete pain to use. There is no incentive to want to use the Barnes & Noble app. Is it that hard to make it a little bit more similar to eBay and Amazon’s app experience? BarnesNoble has a 1.5 star rating and it doesn’t look like BarnesNoble has been updated in 3 years. Barnes & Noble, I’m a rewards member and enjoy supporting the company, but seriously, get the act together and start by fixing BarnesNoble. I would be very happy to change my rating and review of the Barnes and Noble app, but first, it has got to change.

Y’all are serious 😭

Okay so I brought this book call “one night:denied” online and had to make an account, right? So basically every time I buy something I like to see what day it arrives. And I love this book so much like I read the first one I finished it in a day it was so good but they left me on a cliffhanger. ANYWAYS, I try to see when the book is coming on the website, right? And I can’t see a place that shows the places for when your books come in. It doesn’t even show past books brought. That costed 5 points taken away. So I download BarnesNoble cause I’m like “it’s probably on BarnesNoble ” and when I tell you BarnesNoble is bad I mean HORRIBLE. APPALLING. NAUSEOUS. first of all it took 15 mins to log in. It kept glitching. Mind you, I read some of the replies and I was kinda like “it won’t be this bad.” GIRL IT WAS THAT BAD. it was the website but glitchy. It takes 20+ mins to do one thing that you can do on the website. There’s no difference. It’s obvious that they only care about the website. It’s as if some 13 year old made BarnesNoble , got a review stating how bad BarnesNoble it, then had a mental breakdown and quit. It’s like they made BarnesNoble , and quit. It’s like they just gave up on BarnesNoble . It’s that bad. Don’t waste your time😭😭🫤

Need More Focus on Improving Mobile App

I love B&N & shop with them a lot, but they seem to be lost in an old shopping paradigm & they need to get the modern world. Most people shop on their smart devices. I use BarnesNoble frequently &, unlike what other reviewers have said, there IS the ability to filter search results, etc. However, B&N really needs to fix the following: 1) Stop signing me out of BarnesNoble at all on my smart phone. That may make sense on the web (though you should really make it MY option even there), but it makes absolutely NO sense on the phone app. And it’s annoying because it doesn’t tell you. You only know when you go to add something to your cart or wishlist. And it happens about every 10 mins even when you’re actively browsing, so you’re constantly having to sign back in. 2) Fix the WiFi issue. All of a sudden app thinks it has no signal when there IS one & it strong. Or sometimes it starts up that way, even in the store, so you have to force it to use cellular. Ridiculous! 3) Allow Nook purchases. Given that Nook is meant to be on mobile devices, it makes no sense that you can’t purchase them on the very device you’ve going to use it on.

FIX THE BROKEN APP

Barnes and Noble devs fix BarnesNoble already. It’s been two year or so since the last update to BarnesNoble and it’s generally a good idea to fix an app every week or two like all the current apps out there.
This isn’t some awesome app back in the early days and the hype dissipated after a few years on the market. This is a productivity app that is very useful, but by not updated after so long is disappointing in my eyes and think that you have either been doing a complete revamp of BarnesNoble that is/was in the making and due to the idiotic management team or whoever decided to pull the plug on the development of BarnesNoble , and now has to get all the hate from all the comments because BarnesNoble isn’t useable at all and load times are stupidly slow even in a fast internet connection, imbedded browser app is just bad and not good for long term development.

For all of us, please hear us and fix the issues that have been commented over and over for so long. Good customer feedback is key if you want to have a viable business support in the future. Otherwise well just use a mobile browser to use the site since that is 100% better than BarnesNoble as of writing this review.
Thanks

Everything takes forever to load and I have to sign in

I really can’t stand BarnesNoble.

First things first: It’s an app, so I feel like 1) when I hit “Remember Me” my information should already be filled in and 2) I shouldn’t be logged out every time I close BarnesNoble . If it’s an app then that usually means I only want to buy stuff on my account, not someone else’s, so I should always be logged in.

Next: It takes FOREVER to load anything. I will click any button on BarnesNoble and it will give me a huge loading symbol on the screen that just sits there for forever. I know it is not an Internet issue because I have very high speed Internet and am always on WiFi when i use BarnesNoble.

Lastly: It doesn’t tell me if my orders are being delivered. When I see my order status, it only tells me “Processing” or “Completed”. For example, on November 25th, I order two sets of calligraphy pens and a bullet journal. Until November 28th, it said “Processing”. On November 28th, I went to check on the order and it said “Completed”, without telling me about when the three items would be here. On November 29th, the bulletin journal arrived, but not the calligraphy pens. I double-checked the order, and all it told me was “Completed”. Again, no estimated time that the other two thirds of my order would be here. Just “Completed”.

Fix these problems, please, before they drive me insane.

Serious attention needed from app developers

BarnesNoble is incredibly frustrating. You can check the “remember me” button every time you sign in, yet it will NEVER remember you. If you’re someone like me that used a password vault, this means you have to launch that app each time you feel like using the B&N app in order to copy paste the pw. Additionally, the buy online pick up in store option doesn’t work either. I kept trying to place an order for pickup but it kept giving me a “no last name given in shipping address” warning. But you can’t input any information into the shipping address section because you’re not shipping anything, and it clearly says “no shipping information needed for this order.” Honestly this is a complete joke. On top of this, the desktop version of the site isn’t much better. It doesn’t recognize the SAME pw I use for BarnesNoble and so I’m unable to place orders or add to my wish list on the desktop version. I love B&N and will continue to support the company because I really want brick and mortar bookstores to thrive as long as possible in this digital age, but man oh man do your app and website need help.

Annoyingly buggy

Honestly BarnesNoble is very buggy. Even though I have checked ‘remember me’ it never does and I have to put my password in every time I get back on BarnesNoble even if I was away on another app for a second. It doesn’t always load properly and can make it hard to go to places you want to go. For instance, sometimes I want to check out my wishlist and it won’t both to load the page and go there.
Another thing that is kind of irritating, but not necessarily a big and could just be how BarnesNoble works, but when you click to view something and then click back out to continue scrolling, it will send you right back up to the top of the page. Also if you want to add something to your wish list you have to click on it to view.
Anyway, I see the last version was updated a year ago to fix bugs, but I don’t know if they keep up with BarnesNoble. Probability just better to use the web browser instead.

Use if you’d like to be annoyed

I don’t think I’ve ever written a review, on a single app, since they came into existence. But BarnesNoble is so frustrating that it warrants one.

I love books. I read a lot. After spending an extended period on the website, I thought perhaps I’d download BarnesNoble and be less “annoyed” by functionality (the website is frustrating because when you return to the previous screen, it kicks back to the top and makes you start over). Well...

First disappointment is that BarnesNoble is no different, in that regard. Highly frustrating because you often find yourself seeing something of interest, only to end up debating “is reading the overview worth losing my spot?”

Second - If I manually searched for a book, it would show up in the auto-fill and if I selected it, it would just spin and “think”. Never loading. I’d be forced to close BarnesNoble and start over.

Last, I had to exit BarnesNoble between EVERY step of the check out process. Couldn’t even tell if my order was placed until I exited AGAIN. Opened AGAIN. Signed in.... AGAIN and checked “orders”. Not to mention - I am a member, BarnesNoble showed my ID. Acknowledged I was in active status. And gave an overall 15% discount, when it should have been 20%, and I’ve found that to be a consistent issue b/t the website or BarnesNoble .

I’ve never encountered a bigger, steaming pile of crap app ... in the history of apps. I think we pay enough for you to do better than this, B&N. Seriously.

The ABC’s ought not to be difficult

Where exactly did the alphabet go? This is the question I find myself asking on all of the BN’s apps and online sites. Why is it not possible to search alphabetically by the last name of the author in each genre? All of the real stores do this, why can’t I do the same when shopping via my IPad? When did it become wrong to look for books alphabetically? I worked five years for this company and in every physical bookstore we have always shelved our books alphabetically by author within each genre. Why exactly would whoever you have designing these sites be doing the shelving so stupidly? Why make it impossible to shop the simplest way possible on a book selling site. Designers you have been given a brain. Please start making use of it, please!!! Do you ever wonder why so much stupidity exists in our world today? It might be as simple as ABC and 123. It’s a classic, try bringing it back, ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ, it’s such a simple and easy thing.

disappointing

i LOVE barnes and noble, every time i go in the store i spend a minimum of two hours there before i even realize it. BarnesNoble makes me want to back out immedately.

it's SO slow. it randomly freezes, it shows up no search results sometimes but i can go back later and the item will be there. i deleted BarnesNoble last year because of these reasons but i was given some gift cards and hoped things would be solved. nope.

my nearest barnes and noble is 45mins away. i cant make casual trips there every week, not to mention there are online items not available in store. the website is the same as BarnesNoble . i feel like i can't even shop here anymore. THAT is how bad BarnesNoble is. it's frustrating as hell. these issues have been issues for SO long now. do something about it. or you're going to continue losing customers because of your negligence.

By

just...why

You download the Nook app to conveniently read your books on any device. You realize you want to purchase a new book, but oh! Wait! The Nook app will not support that. You are told you must use your Nook or the Barnes and Noble website to purchase a Nook book, BarnesNoble is not efficient enough to handle this on its own. You decide it would be much more convenient to use the Barnes and Noble app instead of manually going to their website via your mobile device. You download BarnesNoble, log into your account, locate the book you’ve been wanting to purchase for the past 20 confusing minutes...only to be told that BarnesNoble does not support Nook purchases. Please just create a singular app where you can actually purchase Nook books and read them as well. After all this mess I’d rather spend my time writing this review bashing B&Ns hideous job than actually buying anything I intended to from them. Do yourself a favor and stay away from all their apps.

Really Let Down

God I love Barnes and Noble, but BarnesNoble is really disappointing. Every time you sign in, it gives you a “session” time do shop for books. If you close BarnesNoble and come back to it, your session has expired and any books in your cart are gone. Barnes and Noble experiences in-person are usually so great, but since we can’t have our usual in-person experiences right now, I have to resort to their app. It’s really frustrating trying to navigate BarnesNoble and lose your progress because your session expires. It also signs you out every time you exit BarnesNoble , so you continually have to reenter your password even if you’ve selected “remember me”. No option of Face ID yet either. Just all around really disappointing app.

Excruciatingly slow

Slowest. App. Ever.

I used to stay signed in and didn’t have any problems. Recently, however, when I try to sign in, I get an error message saying I’m an inactive user. Wrong!! I’m a very active user. There’s no way to remedy that so I went to create a new account. I got a message that I already have an account!! You must be signed in to get any assistance via chat or email. I tried calling the 800 number and an automated voice asked for my account number. Although I’ve been a member for some 20 years, I don’t have an account number. The store always just asks for my phone number. But the automated voice doesn’t recognize my phone number. I tried hitting 0. Nothing I tried asking to speak to a representative. Nothing. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling BarnesNoble . Didn’t help. If I could give a 0 star rating, I would because BarnesNoble (which used to be pretty decent) is currently absolutely useless.

Poor app. Just use the web site instead... or another store entirely

Barnes & Noble needs to get their app act together. From blatant interface bugs, to the inability to share a product link, (seriously... can’t you give me a URL so I can tell somebody “this book”?), BarnesNoble is terrible.

It’s worst crime is that it deletes entries from my WishList, which makes the feature **worse than useless**. I add a new book to my wishlist. Later, that book is OOP as a hardcover, but is now a paperback. Because the *precise item* is no longer available, it’s simply removed from the list. This is inexcusable. NEVER DESTROY USER DATA. You leave the entry there and mark it as unavailable, or better yet, show that there’s a new edition; but you don’t just delete it so I don’t know what I had saved.

This isn’t exclusive to BarnesNoble ; the web site does this too. Either way it was a terrible design decision.

Just started using this app

I absolutely love spending a couple hours browsing books in B&N, but after last year esp, ordering online has proven faster, easier, and even safer for my wallet because I usually know what I’m looking for. That being said, I just downloaded BarnesNoble, weary of its ratings, and agree with some of the general issues. I should remain logged in or at least have the option of saving my password in my keychain under BarnesNoble (it only recognizes my login for the website on safari). It also shouldn’t log me out each time I get out of BarnesNoble . I dislike that I can’t use the back button without scrolling all the way back up to the top. I will update as I notice more issues. Just downloaded it tonight.

HORRIBLE APP!! I HATE IT!!

Has not been updated in over a year (12/18) and you can tell. I absolutely hate BarnesNoble, it is extremely frustrating to use. It is very slow, when I click on things it is usually still loading even after a minute so will take me somewhere else (slowly).
Separating marketplace and Barnes and Noble books would be a great addition. A lot—the majority of books are not sold by Barnes and Noble and are from “marketplace sellers” be aware of this as the free shipping does not apply to the marketplace and neither do a lot of coupons. Also there is not a very wide range of books, I have searched for dozens of books that are unavailable, out of stock with no known return date, and completely unsearchable. If I did not have a gift card for this store I would not utilize it. It’s terrible and I’m extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with this company.

Needs major improvements

There’s a promo for $10 off $50 when you pick up in store. Cool, since I am learning German, I’d like to see what my local store right around the corner has and maybe pickup the order after work….

So, I created an account, set my local store…. Then it somehow switched my store to Philadelphia when I live in Ohio… then suddenly wanted a phone number (that wasn’t in the part when I created the account) no biggie, fixed that.

But it’s no wonder book stores can’t survive anymore. BarnesNoble and the mobile website need improvements to survive in a world where people want to get their shopping done and not sift through hundreds on nook books.

So I simply want to: Set my local store, “shop” for books that are IN STOCK at my local store for pickup TODAY. That’s how many other stores operate. I don’t see any filters to make this possible.

There also needs to be a filter for excluding the nook books. Currently I can only look at one book category at a time (paperbacks, hard cover, etc)

Don’t tell me to shop on the website. I want to be able to accomplish this on my mobile device.

Sorry in advance for bad grammar. I’m just that frustrated.

ragingly incompetent

Barnes & Noble does not want any online business. That is the most positive conclusion I can come to, considering the abysmal quality of their app and website. Expect things to time out, 404 you, crash, and about every level of frustration imagineable. After no less than 12 tries to get into my account to change my address, and continuoually reaching error messages, I changed my address and placed an order, only to have that order shipped to the address I had deleted. Two weeks later, and I still haven't received my full refund. Email Help requests go unanswered, and chat is okay, but only if the site is actually working, which is about 25% of the time.

When B&N goes out of business, one of the primary factors will be their incompetent and horrid attention to having a remotely useful online presence.

By

One of the worst apps I’ve ever used

There are so many things wrong with BarnesNoble. It constantly logs you out even if you select remember me. Sometimes you are prompted to log in multiple times when trying to check your cart and then check your order history. BarnesNoble isn’t even an app, it seems like it just goes to barnes and noble’s mobile website in BarnesNoble . Worst of all sometimes when I use the search bar it just tells me I don’t have permission to view what I’ve searched for! How does that even happen? It seems like they haven’t supported BarnesNoble in over a year so although I’m talking to a brick wall, at least I can tell you to not bother with BarnesNoble and just go to Barnes and Noble on your mobile browser or computer, it will be a much better experience.

By

Useful, not enjoyable

This is just their website embedded into an “app.” You can search for books and order them, but it is clunky and weird. You need to sign in every time you use it, which is inconvenient when I’m logging in to check on a status of a package every day, or shopping multiple days a week. Also some pages don’t have a back button, probably because they expect the user to be in a web browser.

BarnesNoble works though. You can browse for books and toys, read descriptions and reviews. There is wider selection than in store, and that is nice. You can also see what’s in stock at your local store which is a great feature.

Uhm

I love Barnes & Noble. Really I do, but with my schedule getting to the store isn’t the easiest thing to do. So I love that they have an app for easy access...but I hate BarnesNoble. It’s just not functional for people that like to make purchases through BarnesNoble . The fact that I can’t even buy books for the nook (their own product) on BarnesNoble is laughable to me. I can order books to my home....at a snails pace. It honestly might be quicker for me to just write my own book.

BarnesNoble could be amazing. It could be a book lovers dream. But it doesn’t seem to me that they cared enough to create a good app, let alone an app that would function.

Barnes & Noble you’re great. But BarnesNoble is trash.

By

Clunky and Poor Performance

I installed the latest version of BarnesNoble this week and found it to be slow, clunky and doesn’t provide accurate information. I attempted to purchase an Actual Book, which they no longer seem to understand. It showed me the book was available at my store, and multiple stores near me. It all went great until I hit Submit Order, then it was no longer available at ANY store. Also, the items I “saved for later” disappeared and could not be found. What made it worse, was the their Customer Service people don’t seem to know BarnesNoble even exists. They kept telling me to go into the Nook App or to change my Browser, neither of which has anything to do with the shopping app. It’s really sad how far they have fallen.

By

Very Slow

I seems to me like they just crammed the mobile site into BarnesNoble and called it good. It even asked me if I would allow the SITE to access my location, giving further evidence of the previous statement.

The only real reason I’m keeping it on my phone is for convenience, rather than having to go online I can just go into BarnesNoble .

It also sounds like people are having trouble logging in and buying things on BarnesNoble . However, I haven’t come across this, mainly because I don’t buy books on this, I rather use it to simply look up books and then go to buy them in store. This can definitely be improved.

By

Frustratingly slow

This update is terrible and better described as a downgrade. It has slowed down and almost runs like visiting the mobile website. I purchase books online frequently and mainly downloaded BarnesNoble to save my login information so
That I don't have to deal with logging in every time. However BarnesNoble requires that you log in every time despite shaving the "remember me" option.

The search bar disappears from the top of certain pages and only after hitting the back button several times can you get back to another search. Not to mention each page takes twice as long to load as just going on an internet browser on your device. All in all, more annoying to use that safari.

By

NEEDS AN EXTREME SOFTWARE UPDATE!

The BN app is great for shopping, but if the developers want BarnesNoble to be efficient then they need to fix the bugs in the system to maximize its potential. I love going to the bin store but it’s inconveniently out of my way to go, so I over BarnesNoble . But it’s incredibly slow and takes far too long to load. And my complaint about the “remember me” at login is the same as everyone else’s. I use BarnesNoble quite a bit, but I just deleted it if it’s not even going to update at the very least of once a year. If it’s not going to be updated, I hope the developers are making an entirely new one, or they will lose out on a great deal more of purchases.

Redirected to a 3rd party site via this app. How?

1. It’s annoying that you have to go to the B&N app to buy ebooks before you read them on Nook. If B&N fails as a company, that is bc Apple has the sense to allow you to buy ebooks directly on the iBooks app.

2. BarnesNoble is slowwwwwww.

3. When BarnesNoble finally loaded, I was redirected to a site that sells kitchen gadgets. Don’t get me wrong. My kitchen could use some things, but I originally came to the B&N app to buy an ebook on abandonment issues since I can’t afford a therapist. The fact that the B&N app took me to a 3rd party website is not helping with those issues. I feel abandoned by B&N. I do not feel safe anymore using BarnesNoble.

Get With The Times...

So, Barnes & Noble, an update to your app for the iPhone X/XS/Max’s screens would be REALLY appreciated...
Especially since it’s been almost a year since the X was released, and BarnesNoble still hasn’t received an update for the X’s screen...
Also, BarnesNoble could use a lot of work on its’ responsiveness, as I tried to do a search for an item recently, and I had to give up on BarnesNoble as all I got was a spinning wheel. So, I instead went to use my phone’s web browser for the search, as I got a much better response doing so. What’s your app development teams motto... Better never than late?!?

By

Barnes and Noble is great, but their app is terrible.

I've owned BarnesNoble for just over 24 hours, and something has gone wrong every single time I have tried to use it. In spite of clicking "Remember Me" every time I log in, I am prompted to log in twice or three more times before I can even add a book to my cart. On occasions when I've managed to bypass this problem, BarnesNoble has either crashed or sat on a loading screen for minutes at a time (occasionally it resolves itself, but most of the time I am forced to manually restart BarnesNoble ). Thankfully, I am a student who has enough free time to mess with the BN app, but others may not be so fortunate. I just want my books, man.

By

Horrible app

I wish I could give BarnesNoble a zero for having wasted so much of my time. Even though I have "remember password" checked on the login screen, each and every time I open BarnesNoble to do anything, I have to provide my email and password. Each time I click on my shopping cart, a spinning icon comes up that does not go away. The only thing I can do is to exit BarnesNoble , and then try to open it again, which by the way it force me to login again and again. It is shameful that this garbage is allowed to make it into BarnesNoble store. BN - look at your average review score and don't be surprised if you go out of business someday in not too distant future.

Runs sideways on iPad, useless!

Seriously, how hard can it be to make the B&N app run in Landscape mode? This is coding 101 stuff, every other shopping app on the planet does this except B&N who must think everyone runs it on an iphone in Portrait mode.

Why does this matter? I have a large iPad Pro with attached keyboard that I normally use in Landscape mode, like a laptop. Since the B&N app only runs in Portrait mode, I either have to use it sideways with my head tilted 90% left (causing great pain), or unplug my keyboard, physically rotate the screen to Portrait mode, and replug/re-rotate when done, no thanks! So have to use the B&N website in a browser instead, meaning BarnesNoble is completely useless for iPad.
