App really could use some work.

I have a very physical job, I am on my feet some days just over 12 hours, usually no less than 10 - 6 days a week. I purchased my watch on New Year’s Day, I have worn it everyday at work. I am constantly walking, reaching, grabbing, squatting, bending and lifting. Maybe I don’t burn much more than 1200 calories a day, I don’t know. But, I do know that I exercise far longer than Fitness states, some days it barely logs 30 minutes other days it has over an hour. It also seems to start counting “Stand” the minute I touch the watch. In the mornings I put it on even while sitting, I accomplished an hour of standing. First this app app I’ve used, it could use some work.

So to update my review: I have two watches the SE and the 7. Lately, I have started wearing both to work so that I can listen to music without completely killing the battery. Wear them on the same arm just the 7 is a bit higher up and I usually put it on 20 minutes or so after the SE. Yet for some reason the 7 continuously reports more calories burnt. The exercise time sometimes shows more on the 7 but the stand IS ALWAYS THE SAME! It seems as though stand starts counting from the minute I touch the watches, whether I’m wearing one or not, just place it on the charger and I’ve stood for an hour!

Great content, but caveats…

The training content is rich and thoughtful for the most part. The strength and core exercises are top notch. The dancing is so-so for a beginner, despite their claim. A beginner should be perceived as someone who has never done formal dancing. They start off slowly, but rapidly move to a quicker pace and it is easy to fall behind or not follow. Frustrating as I would like to get better, but cannot progress. I would like to see a 45 minute strength option (it is grayed out). Keep the content coming. The library isn’t large enough yet to go back to old workouts without fully remembering, and last year’s content appears to have been removed. Requiring all family members to all have an Apple Watch an unacceptable requirement (that even Apple store folks don’t always know). If the subscription is purchased and I have an Apple Watch to start the process, the rest of the family should be able to use without. Thankfully, I have been able to work around it by installing this app+ under my iTunes account on their device (temporarily logout and login with my account), so they can workout without Apple Watch.

More options

I really love Fitness . I’ve started my this app journey in January! I would like to see more options in regards to rewind & fast forward options, people who have Apple products but are non Apple Watch users able to use the this app app, and have nutritional guidance & nutritionist to follow. I have been in the middle of a workout and either my iPad, network servers, or Fitness has frozen and it takes while to reload. I’ve had to either wait a significant amount of time before it reloads or forced to exit Fitness , then enter Fitness , and start over. If there are rewind or fast forward capabilities then it would be easier to pick back up where I left off. I think it would be a great idea to also have friends/family or join workouts with other people that are using Fitness to help build a community to help each other progress in our healthy living lifestyles. Lastly, I would love to have some nutritional content and able to follow some nutritionist within Fitness to make it more complete and well rounded in my this app journey.

How can I get support???

Fitness has become garbage recently. It won’t open most of the time on my iPhone 11 max pro and barely works on my Apple Watch series 5. It freezes and crashes when I try to open it. I did the updates and no change. I uninstalled strava which was linked to it and no change. It is mostly the stand minutes where it is struggling to give me credit even though it is giving my credit for steps, exercise minutes, and distance. Sometimes it won’t record distance on my workouts but will show it in the total distance. I restart my devices multiple times to try and get it to work but it doesn’t help some of the time. There are crash logs on my phone but I don’t know how to report this. Help articles and discussions are unclear. This started a few weeks ago. I have proof of walking around for the better part of an hour and it won’t give me credit for standing and sometimes says I wasn’t even wearing the watch! I am currently at a 316 day streak for closing my rings and this is affecting my life and progress. This is unacceptable and frustrating. The health app won’t open at all. It just crashes continuously. Please tell me how to get help with this.

Fun trainers and a great variety of workouts

Apple this app has been a great way to get through these interesting times. I have been mostly doing strength training and cycling. The trainers are great and I really like the workouts. I’ve also been trying out yoga. I like the option to take shorter classes in my own home so I can get used to it.

I would like to see longer classes. Maybe 45-60 for strength. I tend to do multiple classes for a longer workout, but having a longer class would be preferable. Also, I would like cycling classes that focus on strength, tempo or endurance. Longer than 45 minutes would be great. I would love to see a 60-90 minute endurance cycling class.

I really appreciate the addition of new activities. Apple this app runs really smooth for me. I have not had any issues with using it. My watch connects quickly and content streams very smoothly. It is a great deal for all of the available content.

Good for tracking workouts accurately

I love the activity app and workout app on Apple Watch and I almost use those apps for workout everyday. I have one complaint though, especially when I select “Mind & Body” workout. Why do you keep prompting or asking me if I am still working out especially for this particular activity? You know how annoying that is when you are deep in meditation and not moving at all, and the watch vibrates with the alert to see if I want to pause or continue workout. That just defeats the whole purpose. It makes sense for all the other activities that requires movement, but during meditation, the whole purpose is to be still and focus on breath, mind, etc. If you can fix that, nothing like it. I would enjoy Fitness more. Now it’s like, I am having to take off my watch while meditating to prevent this annoying alert. That is the case even if the watch is in Do not disturb mode.

Obsessed! Helped me get a 200 Day streak of exercise!

The powerhouse combo of the Apple Watch + this app+ has been a game changer for my this app lifestyle.

Watch
Love how the watch gives tangible goals for your level that progress with you. Love the dopamine rush when all of my rings close & it makes that little spinning firework. Love that I can congratulate and compete with friends!

App
Love the variety of workouts, especially dance! I’ve always been enamored by dancers but never felt competent enough to join in. These routines meet me where I am, are super fun, & provide a great quick burn. Also love the treadmill workouts! I’ve ALWAYS despised running, especially running “for no reason”… I reluctantly selected a treadmill workout one time at the gym for a quick 10-min warm up, and I’ve been obsessed ever since! It blows my mind that I can actually enjoy something that I’ve been convinced I’ve hated for the last 22 years.

My only WISH for Fitness is to have more detailed tracking. Now that I’m getting into running, I’d love it if it would show my previous paces/heart rates for each run I repeat. Same for other workouts (HIIT, cycling, strength, etc. would show heart rate & “lead the pack” placement). Now that this is a lifestyle, it would totally be fun to see if I’m progressing & to have a clear goal to challenge myself again each round.

Sleep info and HR zone workout info

What is up with the lame sleep stats? I don't know if Apple is waiting for one of third party app developers to do it right, of what but it hasn't happened. I've tried the editors choice and paid premium prices and I'm just over it now. Some apps have so much data on one screen if feel like I'm a pilot looking at all this gages. Can we just make it simple? Just give us a score or something, let me know if my vitals dip unexpectedly etc.

C’mon if Fitbit could do it, I'm certain Apple is more than capable.

Why isn’t there HR zone training In the native. To be specific if I select the Workout app. in outdoor running, I can select the three dots which allows me to choose to have my speed or pace monitored. Why not have the same option for my heart rate? It’s already displayed on the watch.

Just like with the third party sleep apps. There’s way too much on each screen. Most recreational runners, for example, want to just get up and go for a run. The large majority of the third party app, including premium (paid) ones just have way to many toggles and switches. Then they all need you to sign up for their own eco systems. Why can’t there just be a native function for this?

I love Apple Watch, but Garmin is starting to look real good. I’m already paying similar prices. I really hope Apple does something to change this.

I doubt anyone from Apple, who can actually effect change will ever read this. But I can hope.

Great content, with a few needs for improvement

I love apple workouts. There’s a good variety of content, playlists etc. the watch integration is awesome and makes it easy to track my activity level. I also love that you can share the subscription with the family. I wish there were more prenatal content specifically (although I know some trainers are pregnant, it would be helpful for the workouts to be more of a specific journey for me). I signed up for Peloton and Melissa Wood Health, both of which have much more content available for pre and post natal workouts. I also have had an issue where the workout crashes halfway through when air playing onto the tv, and it’s frustrating because you can’t get back to the same place in the workout, you have to start over. It’s rare but very annoying when it occurs. Thanks for keeping the family moving!

Mostly I love it, but….

I really like the watch, and it is particularly the Activity app I value. It has really helped motivate me to get up and move, and seeing the payoff in health stats is really rewarding.

A significant flaw, though, is the inability to tailor notifications more. I LIKE the stand notifications: they help me be mindful of time passing when I’m caught up in work or reading, so I will be sure to get up and move around throughout the day.

I do not want a freaking stand notification in the middle of the night, especially since the reason it goes off is that the watch has noted I am restless. The little alert is just enough to tip me from restlessly sleeping to “thanks for waking me ALL the way up, Apple!” But I wear the watch because it is the most considerate alarm option, sufficient to wake me at 5 am for work but let my husband sleep on.

Q&A on the internet shows people have been saying this for 5 years. Fix it, Apple!

Also, though less urgent, I DO like alerts telling me I’ve met my move, exercise, or stand goal for the day. I do like when the day is winding down being reminded if i have not met a goal. I do NOT like all the “badges.” I am not 6, I do not want a gold star or a “badge” and a “good job!” How hard would it be to let folks choose the notifications they want, instead of all notifications on or off?

Inaccurate

I want to love Fitness because I love my watch but this is just an inaccurate app all around. I’m a warehouse supervisor and I’m standing and moving for hours on end, yet it shows I stand only five minutes an hour? I’m lucky if I can sit for five minutes in an hour! Also, and this may sound silly to some but I love the achievements. I have 366 days of closing my move ring and yet it won’t give me the achievement for closing it for 365 days. This is utter nonsense. Fitness tells you that you hit the achievement but yet won’t give it to you? To bad I can’t post an attachment to show this. If I didn’t like my apple watch so much I would switch back to Fitbit. They had no functionality issues like this when I had one. Maybe take some notes from them to male Fitness function properly.

Fitness 4⭐️/Health 👎🏻Very Disappointed

1st- I think the this app section is designed nice and easy to use. That said I only use it for yoga. 2nd-We spent the money to get the Apple Watch expecting the features to not only do what is listed but work. The features are very basic. If you have health issues, don’t count on health app except maybe if your heart rate jumps. I can’t do stairs, yet Fitness shows that I did 2 flights. Also, if you stand up for 1 minute or 30 minutes it automatically registers an hour. It CAN’T tell if you are awake or asleep. I was surprised when I re-read that. Most of The data/reports are confusing. It would be nice if they would break-down the reports to include the hourly info. Also, only 2 of my pre set Alarms go off. The others will not go off on my watch. No matter what I try. I think its because alarms are combined with the sleep feature yet on my phone [SE] they are still separate. I’m still on the fence if it’s worth it.

I’m a fan!

I’ve used a handful of different this app apps and found something I liked about all of them, but this one just has SO many things I like! I love how the workouts are integrated with my watch and therefore health tracking like heart rate. I love the variety of workouts and the personalities of the trainers. I love that they offer modifications for all this app levels. I like that you can filter the workouts by time, trainer, equipment needed, muscle group worked, etc. and they’re releasing new workouts so often that I never run out of classes, even though I’m doing 10-12 classes per week. My one suggestion to on would be that I could use the workouts from my laptop or appletv (without airplay). Overall- very worth the money.

Unexpectedly Wonderful

I purchased an Apple Watch to help me keep track of my activity for health reasons. I decided to try the free trial of this app +, but I really didn’t think I would use it. I was surprised by how much I love it.

Apple has put together a diverse, talented, and positive team. I look forward to spending part of my day with these folks. I love how they bring who they are into their workout, sharing culture, family stories, and music along with positive encouragement. I love that modifications are offered every time. I have a long way to go before I can match the trainers without mods, but I don’t feel bad about myself because of the easy and positive way they are offered.

I do have one small disappointment- I was very excited to see that Pilates was being added. However, it doesn’t seem to be classic Pilates. I’ve only done one class so far, but there was no Hundred, no roll ups, no focus on breathing… I’m not really sure what makes it possible to call this “Pilates.” I wish they were offering real Pilates classes.

Overall, though, this is a fantastic offering and it has really been helping me stay motivated to continue to meet my exercise goals.

Has sync issues and Worthless on Shared iPad

This could be a great service if not for 2 things.
1. My Apple Watch has a sync issue every other time I use it. My wife has issues too and our OS’s are up to date and devices rebooted.
2. You can’t use it on a shared iPad easily. switch users on a shared iPad. Right now, there isn’t a way to switch the this app user. So, for an family sharing a single iPad with a child’s managed iCloud account signed in, you have to change their account permissions, sign out of iCloud, sign into your iCloud account, work out, then reverse all the changes. Yes, every time you work out (multiple times a day for some of us). What an oversight Apple! Why can’t my shared child’s account just find my Apple Watch like an Apple TV??? It’s all one family plan. Please fix for a higher rating.

I started using Peloton’s trial and they never have issues syncing. I think I’m switching after this year’s plan runs out. Apple needs to stabilize things.

Workouts Crashing Constantly

I am nearing the end of a 3 month trial of Apple this app+ and have loved it enough that I was planning to purchase a subscription, but with how it has been running over the past few weeks I definitely will not be. I especially love the dance workouts, but nearly every other one I have selected lately either hasn’t loaded so I have to find another one to do, or plays for 10-15 minutes and then crashes. When it crashes, there is no way to resume where I left off or to even fast forward to the point I left off at. This is SO frustrating!!! I work out in the mornings and don’t have time to deal with this and still get my workout in while getting to work on time. I’m super over it. I enjoyed the workouts when they’ve worked, but would never spend the money on an app subscription that only works half of the time.

Great! Would love improved filters.

Just got my first Apple Watch specifically for this app +. So far I am loving it. Great motivation to close my rings everyday and having real time feedback on the screen while I’m working out is awesome. My absolute favorite is the mindful cooldowns. Helps me get in a great headspace and slow my body down and move back into the rest of my day.

The one thing that I would really like to see is being able to filter base on body area being focused on. If I feel really tight in my legs, I want a cool down that’s going to focus on that and right now I just have to read each description individually to find what I’m looking for. And when strength training same thing I don’t want to work on the same body part everyday. I need to switch it up.

There is always an issue

I absolutely love my watch and Fitness . I love to motivate my friends and it motivates myself to see my progress. However, Fitness is always giving me issues. Some days I won’t be able to see my friend's activities, I will see the activity on Monday, and the next day I cannot see their activity from the day prior that I already saw. Also, Fitness does not refresh or respond in a timely manner. I have deleted Fitness re install it and even reset my phone and watch and Fitness is still giving me issues.
Aside from the technical difficulties, I wish the developers added more exercises to the exercise list or programs to the list. There are hundreds of program exercises that could be included for us to monitor our progress and work with that program/routine. It seems that the list of available exercises is too basic for 2021.

Good start!

I love that the workouts start automatically on my Apple Watch, that captions are an option (and some trainers use a little bit of ASL here and there), and that the trainers put out a welcoming and inclusive energy.

What I’d like:
- More adjustments for people with disabilities (given that they’ve been cleared for exercise by a physician), especially anyone wheelchair-bound. These adjustments can be easy to do, and for some workouts, someone can give adjustment suggestions at the start. Giving workouts that have this option a specific tag would also help.

- Morning yoga, stretch breaks - shorter workouts for when you need to move a bit but don’t have time for a full workout. These could go under the 5min tag in their respective categories or go under a “move break” type category all their own.

- Meditation and stretch cross-overs (under the same 5minute tag I described above). You could even team up with the Ten Percent app for a mini mind-body challenge.

Fitness has a lot of potential and as time passes, I am getting closer to cancelling my Peloton sub - but it’s not quite ready to replace it yet.

Recommendation for Summary Data

I really enjoy using Apple this app. Love the workouts, coaches, and all the data, and I find myself (embarrassingly) motivated by the awards. One aspect that I do not like is the push for “streaks”, particularly move streaks. Maybe in addition to streaks, Fitness could include “3-month progress” summary or something similar (ie, you closed all three rings on 60 of the last 90 days). This would help provide the broader context of a user’s workouts, with less risk of that individual moving into problematic/obsessive territory to hit workout & move goals every single day. Getting in 3-4 workouts a week is better than none, but Fitness doesn’t really reward that type of consistency that includes rest days (which are important!)

By

Cool

Fitness is pretty helpful I loving stats in different areas really neat to see progress on workouts. It would however be careful if there was a notes feature on Fitness for writing how you felt on the workout and what maybe someone could improve on. Idk how much this is desired but for me I think it would be valuable!

Bad Device Support

You can’t get this app to play on anything other than Apple TV, iPad or iPhone.

Doesn’t matter if you have a Mac or even physically plug in your iPhone to another screen, Apple will block it all. Screw you Apple I’m not shelling out more money when you could make Fitness work perfectly fine on any number of devices.

What?

I cant even download Fitness.. literally i have the latest and greatest iPhone (12 Pro Max) and I’m on iOS 15 and it says i don’t have all the features necessary. What does that even mean.

Controls

Difficult to control and turn off functions. It has a mind of its own. Very irritating.

Nothing special, and no phone/watch integration

I could easily find a multitude of workout/mindful routine videos on YouTube, so that feature here is nothing special. Also, it knows my AppleID login, so I would have expected the possibility of an iPad-sized dashboard of my AppleWatch and iPhone this app app activity and workout data, but there’s no such thing here.
